A montage of the greatest English footballer of recent times. Paul Gascoigne will always be a true legend. Apologies for the poor sound quality I have uploaded this off of a 20 year old video taken from the 1990 World Cup during half time of the 3rd and 4th play-off between England and Italy.. Believe.

I was fortunate enough to watch him from his early days, never seen an England player so comfortable on the ball, he was a genius on the pitch and a wonderful personality
@dfstarborn

I seen him live and he was pure silk on the ball and out and out genius. I'm 45 now born in England of Irish parents and I saw him play at White Hart Lane.. I was blown away at how good he was, even my dad who hates soccer being Irish, his face went white as a ghost whilst watching him. My dad thought he was amazing and that says a lot.

Top draw. Absolutely top draw clip, top draw footballer and top drawer bloke. I don't think we had any idea how good he was or how lucky we were to have a player of that quality. We haven't seen the same in 20+ years since - and no, Scholes, Becks, & Carlton Palmer couldn't lace his boots. Met him in Miami years later, tab & champagne in hand & he dragged us into the VIP section - couldn't do enough for us. Man is a legend - disgrace that we seem to have deserted a man of his stature.
@AntonesPap
@AntonesPap 4 года назад
He deserted himself first. Still a legend though.
@dfstarborn

He was a genius pure and simple.. Even the Lazio fans said he was a genius who could breeze past 4 to 5 players and score or make an assist. He was to hyper though which was his downfall but nobodies perfect save God himself.

We loved him, and I still do, unfortunately top top world class stars have some flaws, I loved his cheeky, happy side, he exudeded confidence like all top world class footballers have, as is usually the case our UK media scum called him all sorts back in the day, I think one finally apologised in the paper to stop themselves loosing sales most probably after he made them all eat their words 🤬 long live the legend that is Gaza - still love all these clips
@dfstarborn

@@michaelbarker1635 Oh, the young fans would have burned the newspaper buildings down if Gazza had died of alcholism. Poor Gazza was basically nuts and needed someone like Fergie to tame him but to be honest I think Alex would have failed. Jimmy five belilies used Paul for all that he had and only helped bring Pau down. I also think if Gazza went to MU he would of won a CL with them. Gazza was all about himself though, he was a greedy bugger on the field and even Liniker said he was weary of Gazza because he knew he liked to keep the ball. I saw Gazza play at Spurs at White Hart Lane and he was outstanding on the field, he jus stood out like s sore thumb. The closest I've seen to him since is Grealish who's another genius but with a better head on his shoulders. T
@michaelbarker1635
@michaelbarker1635 3 года назад
@@dfstarborn yea I think going to united under alex Ferguson might have helped a little bit, but Im pretty sure the end result would not have been much different unfortunately - Gaza used to cry at the end of a season knowing he had 6 weeks off and might never make it back... and that's early in his career - thankfully now it's a different culture in regards to drink... but they will still probably all struggle in retirement. Top players will admit themselves they are greedy most of the time because they think they will do it better lol but I loved that, their confidence on the pitch gave us fans more confidence lol you remember Southgate walking up instead of Paul Ince 🤣 you could almost hear the nation say Noooooo 😰

Adam Knight id say technically bagio was superior but Gaza had an immense will to win and the old English warrior spirit to never quit other than best bale and giggs and maybe Stanley Matthews who i was unfortunately never seen any well documented highlights of him he was the only English modern player to dribble with the ball like a South American /Latin style he was a talent to behold but once again it’s more than having talent in order to be an all time legend imagine him and Diego having a proper discipline attitude

Im from the Canaries, I was studying in Madrid back then, and this guy had the magic element that only a few player lhad like Maradona, Ronaldo Nazario, Pele, Messi, Zidane, and a handful of others had. The sheer act of seeing your attacking midfielder act like “Thor” would get even the most timid player in the mood. What a Star ⭐️. The greatest midfielder off all time. Yes we all love Cesc Fabregas. But this guy was a force of Nature. 😃

I lived in next road to Gaza in Hertfordshire. The press wouldn't leave him alone. Followed him everywhere and sat outside his house just encouraging him to do something stupid or newsworthy. Better for him at Lazio

Technically the best footballer England has ever produced by a country mile, he was unfortunately too often daft as a brush and at times completely wreckless. If he'd looked after himself better people would talk about him in the same way they talk about Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, Maradona etc...
