As a gay man I didn't find his speech homophobic at all. People are entitled to disagree about an issue without being called homophobic or racist or transphobic. It's free speech. What he said wasn't offensive.

None of what I watched was "wild", one could make an argument for "homophobic" but he presented another interpretation of the Gospels and it certainly was NOT a "rant". Get as outraged as you want, Mr Robinson has a right to his opinion and if GB News want to allow him to air his opinion as a counterpoint to others, that's OK. Stop the anger, stop the outrage, stop the name-calling. He has a right to say what he thinks. If you disagree, write an opinion that will get you equal air time. As a gay atheist this doesn’t really offend me. We should support both the separation of church and state, *and* religious freedom and freedom of expression. This man is clearly not preaching hatred. He is not, so far as I can tell, even preaching for a change in legislation. He is engaged in a doctrinal dispute internal to his church. So what?

He would be right, apart from the fact that the churches are allowing people to get married who have lived together already (and most likely had sex). If they were honest about what the Bible says rather than bending it to fit societies changes thy would be insisting that only virgins were allowed to be married in church. They would find themselves performing very few marriage ceremonies though and they know that!

We wouldn’t expect a Hindu or Muslim cleric to agree with gay marriage within the framework of their religion. This is the same. There’s nothing surprising about men (or women in the Anglican Church) of the cloth basing themselves on scripture. It comes with the job.

That's the reason the sizes of congregations continues to fall. Even in my lifetime, attitudes to things like corporal punishment, smoking, seat belts, women's rights and slavery have evolved for the better. I'm happy for him to live his life like he was living in the time of christ - it openly displays his irrelevance. But don't impose that on others mate.

This is not a ‘hate’ filled rant. He points out that all people deserve respect and it being important to hear others views. The Church should have the right to align itself with its theology. No one is forced to subscribe to its teaching, we ALL have freedom to do as we wish. We shouldn’t demonise any portion of society for holding a different view, free speech, free expression should be allowed & as he says, Christians are called to be in ‘in the world, but not of the world’. He is simply advocating that the church upholds its teaching… We are all free to embrace or reject that. I wouldn’t tell a LGBT+ organisation how to operate or what view points it should hold, not sure why everyone thinks that they’re opinion counts for an organisation & structure they choose not to be part of? 😂

We can't change the doctrines of religion. What doctrines though? Christianity split into various denominations because people disagreed over the teachings, and some adopted more progressive positions while others adopted more conservative ones. The doctrines of religion are always changing. Hell, Jesus was a change from what came before.

Misleading title. He isn't being homophobic at all, he's just putting forward the idea that a church wedding for Christians is about what it says in the bible. People don't have to get married, and people who aren't Christian don't need to get married in a church whatever their sexual orientation. It in no way stops people being in same sex relationships or stops them being married outside a Christian church. I'm not taking sides here, just calling it as I see it.

I'm not a religious person, but I agree with Calvin Robinson, and calling what he expresses quite elegantly, a rant is a wee bit hyperbolic! No one is saying people in a same-sex relationship can't get married, but you can't force a belief system to change to accommodate them, there are always civil ceremonies.

He put forward a reasoned argument in a calm manner, in line with his beliefs. There was no wild ranting here. You don't have to agree with him, but he's entitled to his opinion and his faith.
