Thank you for posting the video. Seems the purpose of pulling the dishwasher out a few inches from the cabinet is only to gain access to the door spring cable clips, which must be disconnected from the door before lifting the door out. Was able to easily remove and reattach the spring cable clips without pulling the dishwasher out. In other words, was able to skip the steps prior to 3:05 and after 6:55 , except removal and reinstallation of the front lower panel. If need be, use needle nose pliers and/or just reach under and release tension by pulling the end of the spring toward you. The springs are located toward the bottom rear, on each side. The entire job only took about 15 minutes.

Thanks for the detailed walkthrough. It's definitely a pain in the ass to change the dispenser but a lot cheaper than buying a new washer and a lot better than running a cycle only to end up with dirty dishes. Thanks again.

I was able to get this done even though I skipped to 2:30 in the video. Luckily I have a power switch on the wall for my unit, so disconnecting the power and drain lines wasn't necessary. Thanks for the video!

This guide worked well for me! I have a GDT655SSJ4SS and the only notable difference was that the hinges didn't slide out. You need a torx T25 to undo 4 screws near the hinges on the sides that hold the door together. What a pain of a repair.

What caused it to break? It seems like a really bad design. Mine fails to open during cycles also but I don't see how something as simple as closing the door can be operator error. Horrible design, we should all start a class action against GE for these garbage products.

I tried it following the instruction today. It took me an hour and half, but the dispenser started working again! Thank you. The only thing that was different was that the dispenser box in your video had two connection parts. In mine, the machine only had one connection. The part that I ordered had two connections like yours. So I just connected the main one and left the other one unconnected. This is not causing a problem. The hardest part was when I had to deal with the box-like thing underneath the machine near the beginning of the procedure. It involved the hard to reach area. The two black plastic things that were holding the cable had to come off and they have to be put back later, but these two things weren't really visible seeing it from the front side. Especially when I had to put them back, I had to feel and search for the two holes that take the plastics. I didn't shut off water before starting it, but it didn't cause a problem. I did stop the electricity to the washer by looking at the fuse box. I think it was thoughtful that you had alerts at two places, once warning that the door is heavy and the other warning about being careful about sharp objects (or something like that). Thank you!

This video was very informative. I myself am an appliance technician and used this vid as homework on how to fix a product im working on tomorrow but noticed a small flaw in the tutorial. As he was reconnecting power, I noticed that the house wiring and dishwasher were of two non-similar metals. Before you wire nut them add noalox to the connection point of the wire nut. It will prevent oxidation and electrical break down.

All you need to do to remove the build up is run CLR through it whenever you deem it necessary. I tried cleaning mine with a dremel and wore a hole in the dispenser. What a POS this GE dishwasher is. Bought ours in July this year (2022), & here it is early Nov. & the detergent door will not open during the wash cycles - already having to fix it under warranty. A week to get a GE repair dude out here. How long will this next dispenser last before it craps out again? Probably after the 1-year manufacturer warranty expires. I should just replace it right now with a Kitchen Aid like we just had that lasted 15 years.

@traditionrider
@traditionrider 4 года назад
You probably fixed this by now. My thoughts are 1. Check to make sure the old gasket on the detergent dispenser is not sticking to the door which would interfere with the new gasket. 2. You may have damaged the pump when you pulled the dishwasher out. 3. A water or drain line came loose when you pulled the dishwasher out.

Why do you need to remove wire nuts etc when there is a plug?
@Eney53
@Eney53 5 лет назад
Most dishwashers arent "plugged" into anything. Theyre hard wired. Either turn off the breaker and work, or in this case, you must remove the dishwasher...so in order to do that you need the extra length on the power cords to be able to pull it out from under counter, hence why he unwired the machine. Its simple stuff.

Other than that it's 1 plug, 2 latches and 10 screws. I don't see how they can make it simpler and function correctly.

THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: How do we know if this is even necessary???????????????????? Mine isnt opening all the time. How can I be sure what the problem is? If changing is necessary? If changing would even fix it? This washer is like 4-5 years old. If I have to change this PITA looking part, I think I’ll just replace the entire unit with a better brand.
