I just finished replacing my condenser fan. Without your video, I never would have attempted this on my own! Saved about $200 doing it myself. My unit had an extra wire so I couldn't remove the entire housing but I made it work. Thank you for your clear explanations and concise instructions!

Do you self a favor, before starting this repair, have two new grommets ready, especially if frig is a few years old. Sliding the bracket assembly took a while, but after watching Steve slide it several times I was able to do it. The grommet in front and rear of the fans were so brittle that one shattered, so I had to call around (part # WR02X10098) until I found one locally. No telling how long my frig went on sans fan, but I'm so glad vacuuming the back of the frig was on the honey-do list today because that's how I found that dead fan and super hot condenser coils or evaporator not sure which. But almost to hot to touch. Thank you so much, Steve. You just saved me a mint, so I took the kids to Wua Wua and splurged on icees.

I just managed to fix mine, I couldn’t pull out the entire frame like what was shown so I had to work inside. Definitely not recommend if you have large hands, eventually I got it installed. Haven’t heard the sound since. Thank you!

Thank you! Your instructions are perfectly clear, and you make sure with the camera angles that we can see everything you do. It is the exact same assembly that my refrigerator has, so I used these instructions to take it off and see why it was making this clicking noise. The motor is okay--it's just the fan hitting the housing that makes the noise. So I cleaned everything up and replaced everything, and I think maybe the fan was just lopsided a little. I think it's fixed. Even if it isn't, at least now I know exactly what parts are which and how it all goes together. Thanks a million! You're wonderful! I appreciate it so much.

Just completed replacing my fan motor by following these directions and even though it took me a couple of hours I'm back up and running with a new & most importantly QUIET fan motor! Ran into a couple of snags getting it back in but if you follow the steps you'll save a lot doing it yourself. Gotta love the internet & RU-vid :-)

Great video - thanks. Our motor sounded like a small animal screaming, but it didn't do it all the time. Once I figured out that it was the fan, I watched your video; worst part was aligning the tab. Thanks again.

I may not have needed to watch this, but it helps show what is involved. I would have mot considered removing the whole fan housing, but I can see how it makes the job easier. Thanks for posting such a well made video.

Thanks for your wonderful, step-by-step directions! I just changed out my fan motor, and although it was a bear to get the fan component out, I did it and it's working beautifully now!

My fan is making a squeeking noise and I guess is going to fail; now can I lubricsate the shaft some to see if the squeeking stops?

Hello, how do you know if the fan motor is bad? I am a novice this is why I ask.
@saraallen6678
@saraallen6678 3 года назад
is this most likely the culprit if the air is blowing inside the fridge and if I have an exterior fan blowing over the condenser and the freezer starts cooling again?

Hi, thanks for replying , the fridge details are GE Refrigerator model TBG16SAZERWH No AT817735 Class T I usually have the temperature control set to just above zero, otherwise it freezes items in the fresh food section. I lowered it further and this seems to have reduced the occurrence of the fan coming on ( noise source ? ). Thanks for your response.

Your help saved me time and money thanks part select. Why does the cardboard back panel so important always wanted to know!
@bobjones1131
@bobjones1131 7 лет назад
If I may answer ? Without the cardboard cover, the fan wouldn't pull in the air from underneath the direction of the front of the refrigerator across the condenser coil to cool it down. Think of it like a box fan in a hallway pulling air from two doors, close one door and the air only pulls through there.Much like the one purpose of a lawnmowers engines top cover serves the simular function of directing the flywheels air flow over the motor to help cool it down,etc. Otherwise, the air would just blow elsewhere.

Hi there, Thanks so much for your question, and sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Can you provide your model number? It will help me to troubleshoot with you. Thanks :).
@partselect
@partselect 11 лет назад
Hi again, Thanks for the additional details! Having taken a look at your model, the unusual noise seems to be a common issue for this unit, and is often resolved by replacing the evaporator fan blade. If you go to our website (PartSelect [dot] com) and type in this part #: WR60X114, that will bring you to the fan blade for your unit. You'll also see six repair stories from customers who experienced a very similar issue - those can be helpful to look through. I hope that helps!

Nice video, I have a very old fridge that makes a lot of noise. Sounds like a fan kicks in, runs for a while then stops, subsequently repeating. At night it is loud. I don't have the manual so I looked for it on the GE site but the specific model isn't listed (probably purchased 20 years ago). Not sure if it's time to buy a new one, don't know the life expectancy of appliances. Would you recommend replacing or problem shooting the unit?

I have this exact fan in my fridge and it seems to spin very slow and can be sluggish to get going again if it is at rest. Sometimes it will just sit stalled until I give it a nudge to start spinning again. Is there a way to tell if the driver or the fan is bad before buying parts? I'm not that familiar with shaded pole motor operation but i see see anywhere from 7v-13v on the 3 wires going to the fan. For my fan it has a red yellow and white wire. if i probe red to yellow i see 13v. if i probe white to yellow i see 7v. If i probe red to white i also see 7v. Should this motor be at 120v? Is there anything else I should check if the fan is moving slow and easily stalled?

Just did this for a GE GS25SGSCSS. The GE website has the wrong condenser motor listed. It should be this one (WR60X10220). This motor is a 115V AC @ 0.14A, and has a 3 pin plug. The GE website lists (WR60X10209): a 12V DC fan with a 4 pin plug. Not only will it not connect, but it run on a much lower voltage, and it's DC not AC. This particular fridge model is full of poor design choices. There is much less space than shown in the video so it a lot of trial and error to find the angle to pull the fan housing out. The worst part: I couldn't properly put the housing back in. The tab at the back and the clip on the front are a good 1cm too far in to reach. If you're doing this repair for the same fridge, take many careful pictures of how the housing is mounted. After hours of fidgeting, I went with a zip tie and a bit of duck tape. Holds it in the correct position in front of the condenser. No idea how it fit in the mounting holes because they seem impossibly recessed into the fridge. But, it's nice not not hear a dead duck every time the fridge turns on. Thanks for the video.

Is the condenser fan suppose to be running at all times? My refrigerator (side by side model) is not cooling enough and the middle of the refrigerator is extremely hot. I removed the back panel and noticed that the fan was not running, but I also smelled something burnt (hoping it's not electrical) Should I replace the motor fan?
@partselect
@partselect 9 лет назад
The condenser fan should be running whenever the compressor and evaporator fan is running. The mullion strip between the freezer and fresh food sections will get hot if the fan is defective, so I am thinking that is what your problem might be.

Thank you for this video. I have a question. I have a GE Hotpoint model# HSS25GFTAWW that I purchased in 2006. Will a damaged condenser motor make a grinding/screeching sound? The sound is almost like there is something grinding or screeching that is coming from the lower right hand side (freezer compartment side) in the back. If it is the condenser fan motor, where can I get the replacement parts to repair this? If not what do you think that it might be. It does remain cold. Thank you!
@partselect
@partselect 10 лет назад
The condenser fan motor on your model is located at the rear behind an access cover near the bottom. You can remove the cover and rotate the fan manually to see if that is where the sound is coming from. Check this video for help in accessing or replacing the condenser fan motor. www.partselect.com/PS1766247-GE-WR60X10220-Condenser-Fan-Motor.htm?SourceCode=1&SearchTerm=HSS25GFTAWW&ModelNum=HSS25GFTAWW#RepairVideo. If that fan is working normally, I would then suspect that the evaporator fan is the culprit. This is located inside the freezer compartment at the top of the evaporator coil assembly. You may be able to isolate the sound to this component by removing any freezer shelves in the area and listening while the refrigerator is running. Check this video for fan motor installation instructions. www.partselect.com/PS1019114-GE-WR60X10185-Evaporator-Fan-Motor.htm?SourceCode=14#RepairVideo

my hotpoint. Hss25gftaww appears to be the same as the GE in the video. my unit was off for a couple of days due to a powerless. the door was opened to clean out the melted ice. the door got left open and when the power was restored I believe it turned on. when I came home only the fridge light was on and nothing else will run, no compressor, no condenser fan , no evap fan or the temp control panel on the front of unit. is there an overload switch that may be tripped?

Great video. Currently troubleshooting in the area. I heard a clicking noise and I noticed the condenser motor was moving just a fraction with every click I heard. I manually gave the fan blade a spin and to motor started to turn and the clicking noise stopped. An hour or so later the clicking noise returned and the motor was not spinning. Any ideas on what my real problem is? Thanks Russ

The front frame on my ge side by side refrigerator was getting unusually hot recently. I found that the condensor fan was not running while the compressor was on. I could get the fan to run by giving it a push. But it won't restart on it's own without help. I read that the oil inside of the fan unit itself becomes gummy with time and the fan can't overcome this to get started. Do you think this is my problem or does the fan unit itself have some sort of capacitor that needs to be replaced? I've read that most refrigerator condensor fan units don't have a capacitor. I have a GE. Is this true? Should I just replace the fan unit? Thanks

Naufal Abdul Cader There are a few things it could be. I will pass your question on to Steve and let you know what he suggests.
@partselect
@partselect 9 лет назад
***** The problem may be a defective evaporator fan motor or a faulty temp sensor. If there is power at the fan motor wire harness connector, then the motor is most likely the problem. If no power, then suspect one of the temp sensors. These can be checked for proper resistance with a multi-meter.

How come the designers never have to work on these things? Ease of maintenance never seems to be a concern for them. They never slice their hands up on the sharp sheet metal brackets and such.
