Then you are the man I'd like to thank! I have the last Seek Outside Cub Stove, but with a cooktop from a Cub U-Turn Stove for its 2.5 inch diameter stovepipe aperture (as I consider the 3.125 inch diameter stovepipe to be excessive for a firebox of this size). I use a 9 foot long, 10 inch wide titanium foil, 2.5 inch diameter stovepipe with a 2.5 inch stovepipe damper, spark arrestor, end rings and pipe loops. I made an expanded titanium mesh grate for burning smokeless charcoal briquettes and logs. My titanium Cub Stove weights in at 2 pounds complete, which I think is unequalled for a flat cooktop tent stove! The quality of the Cub Stove is outstanding, the metal folding is meticulously precise and it all fits together beautifully! Its a really good piece of kit that's well worth the price (plus shipping, customs charges, taxes and handling). Thank you for taking care and having pride in your superb craftsmanship.

@breakit46

goHUNT Yes, you are totally correct. I should have been more clear in what i meant, you can use the threaded rod with washers to spread the corner stress, like megawoodswalker did, he replaced the top wingnuts for fen washers and threaded inserts, this leaves the whole top plate to work with. Plus the wingnuts are mild steel not titanium. Love the Seek Outside stoves, fabulous kit. Sorry if i annoyed you, much respect. Thanks.

The pipe can go inside but the pipe over the dampener with a ring to hold it would reduce any smoke. Here is a video that will help you out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k3zHfuiiOhY.html

question...can the stovepipe go at an angle so it will work in a Kifaru Supertarp? thinking about the cub or medium for a lightweight option. But the kifaru supertarp shelter has the annex on the front, and the stovepipe will go out the opening on an angle. Can you tell me if this would work with the supertarp?
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 5 лет назад
We are making a response here too after responding to the other stove video. Just to further help others out who might have the same question. Yes, this should work but they would need to purchase a titanium or steel elbow to redirect the pipe towards the proper angle. No guarantees but in theory should work. Also, no guarantees that the pipe will fit into the jack. Seek Outside cuts their jacks to be the right size for the diameter of the pipe. If Kifaru cuts their jacks larger, then the pipe won’t fit and can be especially dangerous in wind. If they cut it smaller, you could easily modify it to fit but they have seen people cut their jacks too large by mistake and need to send it in to have it replaced, so caution should be taken and you should do your research before making a crossover purchase.

It would be much better if U reverse the leg bolts to make a flatter Cooking SURFACE. Then fashion some foot pads.
@felixcat9318
@felixcat9318 4 года назад
Or do what I did and request an additional quantity of the round feet when placing your order with the stove manufacturer. I requested an additional 8 round feet and an additional stove base panel to use as a platform to affix the feet to, that way I have a flatter cook top and a more secure stove base that also acts as a warming area to dry wood. I was only charged for the additional stove base panel, not for the 8 additional round feet. Excellent service from Seek Outside whom were very helpful in fulfilling my other non-standard requests at no extra charge.

@@christiankammer2379 The stove I wanted is no longer listed as being a stock item, specifically the original, solid panel Cub Stove, rather than the titanium foil version, the Cub U-Turn Stove. My preference was for the standard, solid side and end panel original stove body (the Cub Stove) but with the top plate from the Cub U-Turn Stove with its 2.5 inch diameter stove pipe aperture (which is 19mm smaller than the stovepipe on the original Cub Stove). I feel that a firebox of that size (6"High x 6"Wide x 9"Long) is better served by the 2.5 inch diameter stovepipe. I ordered a spare stove base panel to use as a snow platform and to make the stove considerably more rigid and stable and 8 spare round base feet to secure it. From a metals supplier I've ordered a sheet of 1mm thick expanded titanium sheet to make a grate for my stove, and another which is half a millimetre thick to make a warming tray (like the Kifaru box stove warming tray). I wanted a grate as I'll be burning smokeless charcoal briquettes and having one will also improve air flow. I may fit a titanium foil baffle and possibly build a titanium stack robber to see what other improvements may be possible. I'm curious to see how long I can get the stove to run overnight before reloading, burning wood, smokeless charcoal briquettes or duraflame logs (or any combination). With a titanium baffle, damper and Woods Walker inspired stack robber, it should be interesting to see which fuel type gives the most lengthy overnight burn time in this size stove. Because they're made from titanium, the warming tray, grate and baffle will be virtually weightless!

@@pennyontrack Thank you, I have since bought titanium threaded bar to increase the stove leg height and reduce weight. M4 x 250mm threaded rods replace the shorter stainless steel stove legs and I found M4 round base weld nuts in stainless steel to replace the originals so I still have a flat stove top. I'm next going to get a sheet of stove glass to use in place of the sliding door so I can enjoy the fire more. A looped length of titanium wire crimped at the ends of the glass will act as a slider to open and close the door. Whilst none of this makes any financial sense, I'm really enjoying reworking things to try what I think are good modifications.

Whilst certainly not inexpensive (particularly with shipping, customs and taxes) the very high quality materials and meticulously precise construction means that the stoves will give good service for many years! I took so long to decide if I could justify the cost that I actually had the time to save up to buy one (I don't like to buy on credit). The quality of life improvements that a tent stove gives and its ultralight weight and tiny packed size means that its assured of space in one's pack. Having closely inspected my stove components upon arrival, they exceeded my expectations for materials, manufacturing and construction quality! These stoves have a good balance between weight, durability, longevity and cost. My decision to invest in one is rewarded by the overwhelming benefits of ownership and along with my Alpacka Rafts it remains one of my favourite pieces of equipment. My only regret was not getting one sooner and I highly recommend them (I got the neat Cub Stove).

@felixcat9318
@felixcat9318 3 года назад
High quality products, manufactured to close tolerences from expensive materials will invariably not be inexpensive! However, the weight saving, compact packed size and the longevity of a top quality item that will give years of service, heating, drying, cooking and boiling, all the while providing an ambience that only a tent stove can give, actually works out to be great value year after year! My Seek Outside Titanium Tent Stove cost around $650 with additional components and spare parts, shipping, import duty and taxes. Working to a 5 year hypothetical average, and I see no reason that my stove can't easily exceed that figure (it'll outlive me!) that works out to around $130 a year, just under $11 a month! To have such a lightweight, compact packed stove with such excellent capabilities instantly on hand for around $11 a month is excellent value! It's an even greater deal because the stove will obviously last longer than the hypothetical figure of 5 years! Same thing applies with my Alpacka Raft Packrafts, initially expensive outlay, thereafter years of reliable service with superb support and the annual cost of ownership reduces. That I requested and received a stove whose configuration isn't actually listed as being available, but whose specifications I preferred, makes it even better value as I was able to buy what I consider to be my perfect tent stove, and that's priceless! The American expression "Buy Once, Cry Once" applies!

20.5 lbs for the basic gstove vs. 3 lbs for the XL comparably-sized SO titanium stove. I agree with you, the Seek Outside stove looks way too fiddly for my use (setting up in snow & cold) and the GStove looks pretty nice (bit heavier than I'm after), but they are totally different units.
