A good interview by Geddy Lee he is well-spoken

I love how his book came about. He always found books about vintage guitars but none about vintage basses. And him being a collector and knowing other guys who have collections as well, he just was like “fuck it, I’ll write my own book. So here it is.”

Geddy Lee a Phenomenal Musician. 😎

How can Geddy Lee be so humble? All the bassists he named would have never kept up with him if they played together not the other way around. He is miles ahead of anyone in terms of bass playing.

Very modest. I know he can’t say himself but as a bassist myself (Keen amateur, nothing special!) I would have to say Geddy’s playing is mind blowing.

I got to meet Geddy for 15 seconds a few weeks back in Halifax. One of my daughter's surprised me with his awesome book and a signing of the book by Geddy Lee! I was so surprised I did not really know what to say, but I would love to sit and talk Bass guitar and music with him for an hour or days.

I hope to see him again on some sort of tour... whether that's another book tour, or a solo tour for a follow-up album to "My Favourite Headache," or both. Heck perhaps he'll join a successful supergroup and that band will tour!

Geddy is too modest, what he meant to say is his best bass performance is "Leave that thing alone".

I've thought about the whole "greatest bassist" concept: how do you choose only one? And are we limited to just bass guitar? Hell, Richard "Groove" Holmes is one of my favorite bass players, and he did it all on keyboard with his left hand. I can't think of one band, rock or otherwise, where I thought, "Gee, that bass player is lame." I learned from everyone I listened to- they were all great if you ask me. And while I agree with Geddy Lee's choices, there are bassists today, male and female, who are incredible beyond anyone from the past.
@punishedexistence
@punishedexistence 5 лет назад
Some of the other good bassists for their genres...Geezer butler for all around early metal, hard rock...Pete Steele for hard core, doomy and goth metal.. Duff Mckagen for good ol hard rock...Alex Webster and Ross Dolan for Death metal...Lemmy for being Lemmy...Paul McCartney for rock n rolls roots, Cliff Burton for good ol metal, and of course everyone Geddy mentions. And of course, Geddy Lee for being Geddy Lee!! Of course too I left out some but that is a start. ;)

This is probably going to sound a little crazy... but I think Geddy's abilities might be a result of something to do with being one of the offspring of 2 Nazi concentration camp survivors... ever notice how World War II vets all seem to live well into their 90s? Some are still alive today and get around just fine.... Now, look at Geddy's mom, Mary. She's pushing 96 and still fresh as a rose. Unfortunately, his father experienced an untimely death. But at least he had his mother who was and still is very much supportive I once read about a loose theory that states there being a link between world war II vets... the high levels of intensity experienced in combat... and genetics. The hypothesis is that people who endure life or death situations daily over an extended while sleep deprived and living in uncomfortable conditions over an extended period of time build a tolerance to the effects of aging at both genetic and cellular leves... Assuming that this is true, could a sort of cellular / genetic super resistance extend further than just the effects of aging within 1 person? Is it possible that these super genes can be passed on to offspring, thus, giving them superhuman abilities and knowledge etc.? Could the creation of Geddy Lee be consistent with cellular aging resistance and genetic traits enhancement that originated inside a Nazi concentration camp??? The same sort of "super human" that the Nazis were trying to create by encamping jews against their wills, and then conducting experiments that often meant the subject not surviving the botched experiment??? Yet, the irony in this.... is that the same encamped Jews (2 of them) who would be the ones successful in that endeavor. And it didn't involve all the awful things the Nazis thought needed to be done to see this through

Canada's a shithole, but Rush were wonderfully talented artists. Sad they packed it in, but all good things must end. Maybe they'll get back together sometime just for a kick. Loved this amazing band.

Why doesn't he mention John Entwistle, the greatest classical rock bassist of all time. Moreover, if you mention Flea, you've got to mention Les Claypool. Peace.
@nathanstevens259
@nathanstevens259 3 года назад
He's talked about both of those great guys often. Entwistle is one of his heroes, he called him "the king of rock bass". Les is a friend of Geddy's through their bands touring together in the 90s. He talks about him in the book, he says great things about him and his style. He isn't ignoring them by any means.

The real question is, can you jam a really, really, good rock song(s)? You don't need drugs, bats, or even long hair... Gets annoying. Listening to them TALK about playing, rather than hear them playing.

Brian Wyatt shut the hell up, Geddy Lee is one of the best players in history, listen to ANY of his songs. And how do you think he’s one here? He made tons of song, maybe more than 100, each with more talent than the last

Sorry your attention span only goes to the tip of your nose. That's fine, but just so you know... Geddy is the best bassist ever (or one of them depending on your own thoughts). Look up his work inside and outside of Rush, he's great as is Rush. If interviews aren't your thing, don't watch interviews.
