Today I am reviewing the Geeetech E180. This is Geeetech's answer to the Monoprice Select Mini so how does it compare? Well there are some major Pro's and Con's with the E180. I have a lot more testing to do to give a final review but lets unbox the E180 and break the printer down.

I have never seen any Geeetech WiFi device working outside of Geeetech headquarters. They always insist it is everyone else's problem and can't imagine that it is on their side.

I have an E180 that I bought as a gift for a family member. I found that it under extrudes by the ratio of 65/95. 65 is the steps per mm that was reported as being in the firmware on the Geeetech forum. 95 is the value that Geeetech uses in their FW for the Pro I3 series. The stepper motor and extruder gear in the E10 is the same (11 mm OD straight tooth drive gear). If I patch the FW steps/mm to 95, it extrudes what you command. When extruding at the FW default, my E180 extrudes a little less than 70% of what you specify. it's simple enough, the FW is set to under extrude, and that explains the holes in the top surfaces. The FW in mine is v 13.16. Check it out; I'd be interested in knowing what you find.

With great difficulty, I found V1.20.21 firmware on the Geeetech forum. While it improved the under extrude situation that existed in V1.13.16, the extrusion rate is still about 7% low. If anybody ever wants the printer to output what the slicer decided was needed, then all you have to do is add the following command in the startup G-code that runs for each print, M92 E xx, where xx is the number of steps/mm you desire. Setting it at 95 is pretty close to 100%. BTW, if you are looking for E180 FW on the Geeetech forum, don't bother searching for something as logical as "firmware E180" (as of 3/7). Try the word "toolkit" instead.

Great video,I have this as my first printer and the only way I could get the wifi to work was to get a USB powered ethernet-wifi adaptor and set a simple username and password, I think the printer had problems with my long username and password for my home wifi.To be honest it wasn’t worth the trouble as you can only access the printer via the mobile app and not from the desktop app.

It's funny how this style is a copy of one or the other. Has it occured to anyone that this one, the MS Mini, and the Ender II are strikingly similar to the Printrbot Simple (and Simple Metal, etc), just turned 90 degrees.

Good video as always Shane. I agree that this is a bit overpriced - especially with the issues you pointed out. It seems that it was released a bit early maybe.
