As a 56 year-old, who got into punk at 13, it makes me feel hopeful to see bands like GEL. Punk is definitely still alive and well...and it's global. I've been on Bandcamp as a fan since 2015 and it's definitely the place for all things weird and wonderful! Best regards from Gotham (a village in Nottinghamshire in the UK).
Yeah there's a big difference seeing them here and in a Hate5Six video but that's gotta be expected, playing in front of a live crowd vs a studio is a totally different energy.
Just if you missed, Alex Salter is Gel's drummer in this session. I don't know if he's still playing with them or not, but he used to play drums in a band called Taking Meds. Please, give also a chance to Taking Meds, you won't regret it.
When I found out that Gel was going to tour the U.K. with Undeath & Municipal waste, I got my tickets pronto (Castle & Falcon) for me it's one of the few times where a support act was just as good as if not better than the headliner (arseholes & opinions) got to meet these guys after there extraordinary set & they where very pleasant & down to earth, salt of the earth these kids.
It's 1986 and I'm a teenager again. This reminds me of that mid 80s crossover sound like COC, MDC, English Dogs, Sacrilege UK, Anthrax, DRI and Cryptic Slaughter all rolled into one funky grooving metal punk monster. Plus, they listen to Fleetwood Mac's Rumors in their tour van.
Same, I discovered them like Jan/Feb of this year ('24). RU-vid recommended list had the Sonic parking lot show (hate5six channel) and I was hooked instantly. That show also introduced me to Scowl Another decent band but I like Gel better. Anyway confirmed they were the real deal with whatever the show is with the green color and camera in the pit getting jostled all around. Ha!! After that I binged as much Gel as I could find. Bought the Cold Brats split and Only Constant LPs in early April direct from Convulse. Pre-ordered the new one (red & black splatter) and August can't get here fast enough. Just wish they would put a KC/Lawrence/Topeka area stop on a tour before I start listening to that little voice saying I'm too old for a punk rock show. Hey, what do you think of Die Spitz (if you've heard them that is)?
Not to throw shade, but I feel like these cats would go so much farther if they let their singer throw her gorgeous non scream voice into the mix. After every song I have heard, in the last 48 hrs of finding and binge watching, there is this pleasant/meek/touching "Thank You" after every song, that you don't here in the bones of any song, but feels like it could definitely be in there and be great. I am hooked, but its all the SAME sing voice EVERY song, with all these crazy cool riffs changing up, but not the voice (vocals) of the band.
@@Resinpro what do you mean “let their singer”? First, I get the feeling this band is a great group of friends all enjoying what they do. Second, as a punk or hardcore band they are already reaching great heights. What they as a group are doing is working just fine. I just saw them live in Lakewood, Ohio and was blown away.
@@mheberling5939 It was a compliment to her range, and nothing more, and that mixing her soft side would enhance the sound. I think you are reaching on that one bud, or maybe I worded it confusingly, as I think they are likely friends as well (most bands are) and are also very good.
saw gel a couple times live. they're so good. this is for everyone into that "fast" style of hardcore. hardcore nowadays is oversaturated with beat down and Gel gives a breath of fresh air to hardcore today by giving us some good ol' fast hardcore that most of us grew up on. if you're trans, queer, etc.,, this is the hardcore for you.
Що за вогненний вихор хардкорного панку, під цей шквал оглушливих вібрації неможливо стояти на місці, хочеться стати божевільним і несамовито танцювати
Is it just me or is the audio mix kind of bad. The bass is too high, vocals low, guitars low, drums too high. Kind of a bummer because Gel deserves better.
Yes, Audiotree slipped up on this one. Not gonna rip on the band too much let's just say it's not my thing, maybe there wasn't much for the engineers to work with in the first place
