Hello again. I wanted to let you know I cooked my gelatin back down, poured again, and this time seemed so much better. Much clearer, not as much foam/bubbles. It's going to be more durable, I believe. The packs of gelatin measured out to 1 1/3 c for 200 g. Hope to get some printed beauties similar to your nature prints.
I made my own as well-similar recipe but it used a little sugar in place of the preservative you have in your recipe. I've had it for like 3 yrs and still use it. Used a 9x13 in glass baking dish, but am getting ready to make a really large one with a cookie sheet
Thank you for sharing that information with me. 3 years is awesome result. Mine is still ok, used it the other day. It didn’t shrink over winter, no mold anywhere. Larger one would be great for printing with leaves. 😊
@@Saacibo I can't say of mine has shrunk at all because I never noticed, but definitely no mold, of course it does not remain perfectly smooth over that period of time, but it hasn't bothered me enough to remelt it since I use it mostly for making collage papers.
This has inspired me to get my plates out again. I've found glycerine pretty expensive in Australia. However, my DIY gelli plates last years & I have always kept them in containers in my craft areas ... in tropical Queensland & now cooler NSW. Thanks for reminder & inspiration ❤
Hy Dragana, thank you so much for these techniques. I’m so sorry, I haven’t the possibilities to watch videos in the last time, I hope you are well. You did a great job, hugs from Rome !!!
Thank you! Your video was so well done. I like the idea of preservative instead of alcohol. I purchased a gel plate & I am waiting on it arriving. I am looking gorward to printing. Inknow I eill gollow your recipe and make another.
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment. I have 2 store bought gel plates now and still love to use this one most of the time. It’s actually a bit softer and it needs more paint. 😊
Wow! This turned out great, I agree the hexagonal one may prove difficult to use but that flower was so beautiful. Thanks for sharing this, I’m going to give it a go! New subscriber here too 😊
Hello and welcome to the channel! You're very welcome! Glad you are going to give it a go! I hope you have lots of fun gelli printing once you make your plate ❤️😊
I bought a 8x10” as well and found it was not large enough for A4 papers. I’m excited to see a better recipe than the one I used. I agree, I think the alcohol will dissipate over time and you gelli plate will become smaller. Love the idea to make smaller ones-for smaller prints. Your videos are so easy to follow making learning so easy. Thank you again for all you do!
Aww Deborah, you're so welcome! Thank you so much for watching and leaving me kind comments! I really appreciate it. ❤️❤️❤️ I'm very happy with the new big gel plate, and I really hope it will last longer. I didn't plan to make small ones, it was just a spur of the moment, but I'm glad I did it. So much fun! 😊
Thanks for showing this technique and the small shapes are a great idea. So many possibilities to create . I love the flower on the blue background. Thank you ❤️
You're welcome! I was surprised by how much I liked the idea of small shapes, I'm glad I tried it. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it ❤️😊
Thank you so much Charlotte! I used my gelli plate last time two weeks ago, made lots of prints and it's still ok. Since I made it originally, I remelted it twice, first time because of a break, and second time because I used some sharp tools and I damaged the surface. Second time I reheated and melted I added that food preservative again, just in case. Each time I did this resetting thing, the plate became a little bit firmer, which was great.
Oh, Dragana, im so disappointed. I followed all the instructions. My gelatin clumped right from the start. I used double boiler and all started melting. After stirring for 20 minutes (i didnt want to burn it) I strained remaining clumps and poured to pan. Using paper strips and towels for foam and bubbles. I still had bad cloud in corner. But the bottom looked wonderful. It was fun making it even though i had a sticky mess to clean up. I couldn't sleep so got up at 2 AM (it set for 8 hours) to play hahaha. I was so happy with the plate. Started my prints and on the 3rd print the gel peeled off with the paper leaving terrible divots in my plate. I flipped it and used the other side for a few prints but now have to cut and remold. What did i do wrong? I'll cook it longer today. Love your tutorials. Thanks much.
Oh no, it happens sometimes I guess. Not all gelatins are the same. Perhaps yours needed to be soaked first and then slowly heated. I’d heat it up and reset it again. But I’d wait 24h before using it. It might look ok to use but 8h it’s really not enough. I’ve reset mine many times with the same ingredients and I still use it. Here’s the link to the second video with explanation on how to fix it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0WGWHZYUVfs.html Hope it helps
You're most welcome Lisa! On the package of the one that I bought, says that it's durable and reusable, no animal product. I guess it's synthetic material that doesn't go moldy. I suppose, it can get scratched and damaged from frequent use, just like the home made one, but it should last much longer.😊❤️
I have heard adding a small amount of PVA glue or white school glue helps the gelliplate last longer also adding a teaspoon of bleach (which becomes diluted and you cannot smell the bleachonce the geletin sets) or adding salt prevents mold
Thank you for sharing, I have a large gelli plate but now I want to make the small ones! I’m wondering if you used a stamping platform or a hard plastic CD jewel case to hold the small gelli plate would that help to position the stencils for a reprint, if that makes sense? 🤔🤔 xx
You're most welcome! I'm glad I tried the small shapes, but, reprinting is a bit tricky I'm going to try what you suggested. I have a stamping platform, and it didn't cross my mind until you mentioned it. Thank you so much for watching and for the advice! ❤️❤️❤️
Hello Dragana thank you for all your explanation about making your own Gelli Plate. Your steps are very clear and good to follow. I would like to make a small Gelli Plate for myself and I was wondering what percentage of Glycerin you used? I have 85% , could I use that? Thanks for all your vids and have a nice weekend, Elke 🌷
Hello Elke! Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you are going to try. 85% is exactly what I used. Luckily, I kept that bottle so I was able to check. I didn't think of mentioning that it the video, perhaps I should have, just in case the percentages are different in other countries. Thanks for bringing it up, so I can update my recipe in the description box. The label on my bottle reads: Glycerolum 85%. I hope you have a great weekend, too! ❤️😊
Hi, thanks so much for great video, I am going to make one! I found this: "BENZOIC ACID: Because Sodium Benzoate only converts to benzoic acid in acidic environments, it is not used for its anti-microbial action unless the pH is below about 3.6. Sodium Benzoate is also used as a corrosion inhibitor in automotive anti-freeze products." I have no idea about acidity, I was just wondering if this additive made a difference to how long your gelli plate lasted?
Interesting information! The first gelli plate I’ve ever made was without it and it turned moldy very quickly. Had to throw away the whole lot. This one is remarkably still ok. I’ve used it again just the other day. I don’t know the science behind it all, but it worked keeping the mold away. If you think that ph needs to be lower you can substitute part of water with some vinegar and check with those ph paper strips. 😊
Sadly in UK the ingredients are so expensive on eBay cheaper to buy a gel plate, glycerine alone around £13, gelatine £12.00 & preservatives £3.49 so around £28.50.
Oh, one more thing. The preservative i had was for pickles and when i opened it the smell of dill pickles wafted the kitchen. I didnt add it even though i wouldn't mind a pickled plate lol.
Hi, I found your video very good, not promoting anything, slow and detailed. 😊 Im fascinated by the gelli plate printing process and am going to try making one of my own. In India where I am they are quite expensive and I'm afraid they may not withstand our weather. Hence a few queries. How long does the entire process of making it take? Can one store a diy gel plate out of the refrigerator or does it need to be kept in the fridge. Can it be stored in a plastic container?
Hi! It takes about half an hour to make and 24 hours to set. I keep mine in my room in the tray I set it in, uncovered, in a drawer, during colder months. I keep it in the fridge during summer. You can keep it in the plastic container, but open it from time to time to check for mold. Moisture tends to evaporate and in tightly closed containers, it can’t escape- hence mold. 😊❤️
Hello. I was wondering now that it’s been 7 months, is your gel plate still holding up? I read in one of the comments that you have melted it down twice now & added a preserver each time and also it’s become firmer each time. I am just curious if it is still preserved, but also what are you using to store your gel plate in. I’m so glad I recently found your channel. Too. Finally, I was wondering what your thoughts may be about if I start out with purified water do you think it may help prevent it from turning moldy? Was just curious. Thanks again. 🙂👍🏻
Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I'm glad you found my channel😊. I checked on my gelli plate yesterday and I'm happy to report that it's still holding ok. It's shrank a bit and got firmer but no mold. Next time I melt it I will add a little bit of water, perhaps 1/2 a cup. I store it in the tray that I use to melt it, and I put some card stock over, to keep the dust away. My advice is to keep it away from direct sun or heat when not using. In the summer, fridge is a better option. I haven't tried making it with purified water, but if I ever do, I'd still add the preserver. ❤️😊
@@Saacibo thanks so much! Awesome news. Id love to see another updated video next time you do melt it down, especially before you melt it just to see what it looks like, namely would like to see its firmness & how much it shrank. I have the ingredients to make one but I’ve put off doing so until I could find videos like these because I don’t want to have to throw it away in only a few months. 🥴🤷🏻♀️ Thanks so much for a prompt reply, especially to an older video. You and your art work are both awesome! 😇👍🏻👍🏻
You're welcome! Thank you for watching! It has gelatin smell when you warm it up, but as soon as it cools down it goes away. A few drops of essential oil can be added, too, perhaps lavender or eucalyptus would be nice.😊❤️
The gelatin you cannot do by volume 200grams is accurate like you did it. Because granules are different in different brands and you will get different results by volume/ cups😊
@@Saacibo thanks for replying. I will definitely try your technique - I need a really big plate but they're so expensive. The benzoic acid is genius! It will last forever and never spoil - you don't even need to add new packets of preservative each time you re-melt it
I didn't put alcohol at all. The first time I put alcohol it turned moldy very quickly, so this time I only put water, glycerin, gelatin and food preservative E211😊
