I've heard nothing but how heavy this hitch is in every review. So I asked for help today. While waiting for the help, I lubed the trailer box. Then carried it over and slid it in place. With the weight of it being mostly in front it was easy to carry that way. Then I got my hips under it to push it up. I had it installed before my help ever arrived.

We have the same Gen Y on our 41' 20kGVWR 376TH, EXCEPT, its the 5.5k tongue weight. It took three grown men to lift it into place (struggling), and my wife to slide the first two bolts through. It was hard! I like your method better. We had to mount it in the high position due to bed rail clearance on the pickup. And yeah, I was concerned that we wouldn't be able to get the rig high enough to get it over the gooseball in the site we were at... So now, I always put supports under the landing jacks, so they are higher off the ground and have more stroke available to get up over the gooseball. Have you greased it using that zirk yet? Cool truck!

gen y just sent us our 5.5k replacement for the 4.5k! its defiantly a beefy unit! we haven't greased it yet, but also only gone about 10 miles with the new unit lol

I have the 376THS also and ordered this hitch. They’re sending the 5.5 also. What do you think of this hutch so far? No one is making any review follow up videos that I can find. Looking for others reviews both good and bad. Thanks.

@@FindingLifesAdventure Do you have any update with the 5.5k hitch? I have the same trailer as you and am needing the Gen-Y hitch for my truck. You guys went on a scale to get your hitch weight and are saying the 4.5k was too soft for your trailer. Could this just be because you were towing it with a tractor trailer with air suspension? And maybe the torsion system wasn't designed for that... It's just a thought, I'm no engineer.

I seen someone ask but no reply so I would like to ask again. How much was involved to attach the ball to the frame? All I could see is it looked like it was bolted to the HD fifth wheel plate. Is that correct? any information would be greatly appreciated and love the video's!

I’ve watched this video several times and keep kicking myself for not getting this hitch. I actually got the competitors hitch but wish I had gone with this one instead.

@@FindingLifesAdventure I ended up getting the Reese Gooseneck but haven’t installed it yet. My camper is in the shop for repairs. I also don’t have an HDT…yet! I currently drive a 2020 F450 and really looking forward to the gooseneck hitch.

so the gvwr of the trailer is 21k and you weigh at ~23k ? I would think it's time for a bigger trailer to carry all your stuff. You didn't seem to worried about it. I thought GVWR is one of the weights that you don't ignore no matter what kind of hitch is used?

Agree overweight plus towing behind the trailer. That Momentum is not long for this world. 😮 Hope it holds up for them.

I'm currently looking at gen y hitch but customer service is very slow to answer if at all. Also I noticed with the one I'm looking at and your is the same. 25,000lb trailer weight will have 6,250lb pin weight but for some reason all their 5th wheel/gooseneck hitches are rated for less pin weight then a bumper pull trailer of same weight would have. 5th wheel/gooseneck have 20-25% of total trailer weight on pin where there hitches are only built for 17% 100% yours is too light for your camper. You can see on the video portion of towing it that the torsion is maxed out

They’ve had great customer service every time I’ve called so far. They have 3 different pin weight model up to the ranging from the 2.5-4.5k to the 4.5-6.5k that all have 25000 lbs towing capability. With these hitches you really need to go to a scale a measure your pin weight. The rule of thumb that your describing is just that a rule of thumb. My pin weight is right at about 17% of what my trailer weights. I do agree though that the model I got is to light for my trailer, and is maxed out. I’m working with gen y to figure out a solution.

Any updates? I pulled my 376THS 1200 miles on my new Gen Y hitch. I received the 5.5 and on the ball with about 1/2 tank of fresh water it’s in the green but almost touch the red in the scale. Seems a little too soft. I’m waiting to hear back from Gen Y On this. I did experience a lot of chucking. Not entirely happy with this hitch yet. Hope to hear your experiences now. Thanks and hope to get a reply

Yeah for the most part it’s decent. We are debating a follow up videos now that we have around 7k miles on with it.

From your calculations in the video you are Over your trailers GVW. So why would you decide to tow overweight? Also does your hitch not have the red and green load range sticker on it? We have an Alliance Valor 40v13 and the Gen-Y hitch. Our Ram tows it with absolutely no issues.

Okay, I'm glad you caught that too. I've watched that a couple times thinking I heard that wrong. They need need to get rid of some stuff, upgrade the axles, or add an axle. Do something. A little over weight is one thing, thousands over is another and extremely dangerous. There's a lot of things that can easily break at that weight. 🤯💥

The total weight of the trailer was about 23,000 they said. If you assume 3,500lb is on the tongue of the trailer, then the trailer really only weighs 19,500lb on the 3 axles. This is where distributing the weight as best possible comes in to play.

@@addisonwilliams9677 I'd have to look back at the invoice from 2021. It was installed at Extreme Rv in Twin Falls Idaho. You could call them and ask. They sell Alliance and Gen-Y.

@addisonwilliams9677 The hitch has been absolutely amazing. Easy to hookup and it rides so very smooth after the breakin mileage. I suggest using the B&W ball with the handle/lever on it. It's a little taller and you can remove it easily without getting grease all over yourself 😂👍
