This album is 51 years old. All the sound effects had to be made. This is 1973. Way before it’s time. That clock sound was made by Roger waters plucking his bass.

Love love loved your reaction! That was so amazingly genuine. It blows my mind that you “get it” at only 19 years old. You said that Time probably hits us older gen harder at our age, and you will when you are older too. So wise. And so, so true. When you’re older, it will bring you to tears. Ok, so now. All of us massive PF fans that will literally jam up your channel want to see you react to the Live Pulse concert. They’re older and have perfected like an unbelievably fine wine. My faves from that concert are Comfortably Numb, which includes the best guitar solo ever. I’m serious, it’s listed. And, Wish You Were Here. Best to you, and thank you!

Brain damage is about syd barret, the founding member if pink floyd. He kind of lost his mind after doing copious amounts of Acid. When it say if the band your in is playing different tunes, its refering to an incident when they were performing live in the 60s, and syd barret turned his back to the audience and just played one note for the entire performance.

Yes, after he left in 1968, the spectre of Syd shows up quiet often in their later albums. So many facets in Pink Floyd The Wall movie were inspired by events with Syd, The cigarette burning down, the garbage artwork display, the shaving off the eybrows Etc. Nobody's home is basically Roger's nod to Syd's Vegetable man.

The older you get, the harder this album hits.... come back every other year or a decade or so and you realise that THIS was peak music! And it hits like a train PF had a run of *S level* albums, being: Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals - all double plus awesome. Their next album, The Wall, is also very good but a 1/2 step down from the peaks you got here - so, better then most other bands. Have you noticed? The end of Side 2 is the start of Side 1 - you can play this in a loop :)

@@OCG_Silver OK, but that one can be some work - its more of a personal journey with focus on distorted situations and being trapped, rather _being awesome_ music. Not saying don't, rather saying - perhaps another album (as you're getting into the PF rabbit hole) would um consolidate the good impression. The Wall is, well, more of a cry from a wounded heart and maybe not so relatable. Its about a boy recovering from a lost parent, with abandonment and imprisonment on multiples levels - whilst set in the UK after World War 2. Cruelties to children with more cruelties on top, none intended yet real and situational. Meddle was PF's first album which blew everyone away, then Dark Side which built on the glories of Meddle in a concept album form, then Wish You... which cemented sheer awesomeness and elite skills, then the magestic and left-field / unexpected Animals. Each a very original album (bands tried to do that in the 70s). The Wall - is um different. Some good stuff in there, but even as a die-hard PF fan it - didn't quite hit the same special spot.... it may / may not for you ie this is a YMMV album. Full album straight-thru listens (several times) are the way these works were supposed to be heard; for YT it might be worth breaking The wall up into 2 or 4 parts. All albums of the prog genre have soooo much in them, you hear more every listen. That means re-listening is a rewarding experience, especially around 3+ listens. Want to try another band of similar (but different) awesomeness from this era? Try Yes - _Roundabout_ - or if you don't mind having your mind twisted into a pretzel - their "a bit more advanced" _Sound Chaser_ . Have fun - we had fun! :)

@@xlerb_again_to_music7908i totally agree with you. I’ve been listening to Floyd since i was about his age or maybe younger, and I’m 38 now, and it hits HARD these days. I can only imagine what it will feel like another decade or two down the road, but like you said, the meaning just gets deeper with each passing year.

The band used a theme of the stresses and pressures on their lives. They address in order life in general, the fear of flying, time slipping by, death, dealing with the advantages and troubles money brings, issues of violence, false choice, creativity and madness, and finally the light and dark side of life. The import of these troubles for the band is that you don't let these things hold you back. These are universal. Everybody has troubles they have to overcome. Take "On The Run" it is literally about the band running through airports to catch plane flights while on tour. In spite of their fears of flying particularly in the early 70s when accidents were more frequent. They didn't let that hold them back. The machinery of the music business compelled them to either stand up and defeat these fears or shrink away and hide like Syd Barrett did. Syd's creativity turned him crazy, he self medicated and turned into a sad isolated figure, e.g. The Wall album.

Pink Floyd is legitimately one of the greatest bands that's ever been, and they've influenced *every* genre of music that's come after them. I very much hope you keep listening because each song is more beautiful than the last. And the only thing better than Pink Floyd is Pink Floyd live. It's hard to make any suggestions because there are so may good ones. But I will say, don't let the length of some of the songs dissuade you. They all leave you wanting more. 🤘🏽💗

It's wonderful to see some one from your generation hearing this for the first time, and uninterrupted or skipped tracks, the less you pause the more meaning the music will hold for you. Remember this is way before any digital technologies were available. People cut tape and looped tapes by hand back then. All of the clocks you hear in Time are done manually and recorded manually. So a bunch of clocks were collected and set to go off just out of sequence and recorded by Alan Parsons at Abbey Road studio's. Everything you're hearing is cutting edge technology from when it was released. No new groups can create anything close to this album because they created the idea of a concept album. You have to listen to this album several times over and over until there are no more new things for you to figure out. Guess what, no matter how many years go by, you'll hear something new!

I'm 49yrs of age, I kid you not, my day has started with PF for at least 20 years. I must have been 10 or so when I first heard DSotM and clearly I didn't understand the deeper meaning of any of the songs, I just enjoyed the sound effects. I was 16 when I lost a friend and it hit me harder. In fact the older you get, the more relevance it will hold. Next album should probably be Wish You Were Here. Then Meddle. The others have a different feel and construction. Listen to other genres and switch back, it'll have another effect the on you.

Most of pink Floyd's albums after former band leader Syd Barret left were concept albums. This band loves to tell a story and really push the audience to think about some truly heavy subjects! Speaking of Syd Barrett, so much of Floyd's music is about him losing his sanity. You can really feel their love for him.

Great stuff, don’t stop go down the rabbit hole , you will be blown away Suggestions Comfortably numb live pulse tour 1994 Echoes live at Pompeii. 1972 You will never see anything like it. Wish you were here -entire album. 1975 Animals 1977 The Wall Album, is a lot get a little context into the band and then listen to that. 1979 Also try to find some gems pre-1972. You’ll have to figure this out for yourself. Find your taste with Pink Floyd FYI, there’s a lot of Pink Floyd documentaries. It will help you have much more context into the band. Pink Floyd has a tremendously interesting and tragic history starting in 1965.

Like & Subscribe for an amazing reaction from a young man listening to one of the best albums of all time, 50 years before. Some very insightful comments - well done. Would suggest Wish You Were Here next - more about Syd Barrett and the music industry's control over the musicians (the cover says it all - businessman deal burning the musician).
