Dolly Parton always said…”Act like a lady but think just like a man”. A quote that her father told her right before she went into the music business. Although Dolly made it through the country music scene rather unscathed. I am still hoping that you would do a cover on her one day. Such a strong woman and a class act.

So many of these "glamour" actresses came to Hollywood sheltered, unprotected, and naive. Many of the male power players were/are predators. Her story is bittersweet. She had enough courage and resilience to succeed. But at what cost? One of the few that left on her own terms was Ava Gardner. She left at her peak and moved to Spain, then London. Even then, I suspect she would have liked to be back in the States. But she remained in London until she died. Thanks, Karine, for your "portrait" of Gene Tierney.

I’m not a cosmetic surgeon but I think her overbite, face shape, hair texture/color, eye color, body shape and poetic tendencies were extremely Irish, including escaping her captors rather than submitting to them. The overbite actually added to her symmetry of her facial structure. The better looking a person is, the more others think of themselves as owning that person .

I have long admired Gene Tierney for her acting and distinctive beauty. I never realized the tragic arc of her life. Having worked as a Psychiatric nurse for a time, post the era of Electro-shock therapy, but still had patients that had been treated by this method. Few reported real sterling results. Drugs are hardly better so Ms. Tierney's story is too familiar. But she was extraordinarily beautiful, and did have a noticeable overbite, which I find absolutely adorable. Would love to see you cover Louise Brooks, one iconic starlet that refused to play along with the worst of early Hollywood, and later made it the subject of her writing. Would also see you do something on Anna Mae Wong.

Gene Tierney's first daughter Antoinette Daria Cassini (October 15, 1943 - September 11, 2010), was born intellectually disabled because Gene had contracted rubella (aka German measles) during her only appearance at the Hollywood Canteen. This served as the uncredited inspiration for the plot of the 1962 Agatha Christie novel titled "The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side" and later movie The Mirror Crack'd (1980, Columbia) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Kim Novak, Tony Curtis and Angela Lansbury.

I love that you are pin pointing at those patterns. And can't wait to see your break down with Amanda Byne too, which to me is no different to that of Britney Spears situation. Those are very young kids who are put under terrible pressures & demands, on an emotional, psychological & physical level at the same rate as fully grown adults. Dealing with situations that even adult women can't cope with. And they are supposed to ignore their trauma & PTSD to start acting brand new like nothing ever happened, get clean & sober up overnight & turn their life around, just like snaping their fingers. It all sounds insane until people start paying close attention to the role psychopaths & narcissists play in society. And how their psychology gets them in most positions of power. What those starlets were dealing with is the exact same situation a lot of victims of abuse in relationships suffer from. Predators always go after very young women, mostly virtuous, full of trust & compassion & very stable of mind young girls. And by the time those psychopaths or narcissists are done with those girls, they are a wreck & a shadow of their former selves. And if they break fully grown people, so imagine their impact on young kids. That's we need a system to identify them, expose them to limit the damage they cause in society. Any way better stop here, I'm getting heated. Good job!

She talked about having her front teeth filed down a bit because she thought that she had bunny teeth. She was very open about her problems with mental illness and the shock therapy she endured. She talked a little about her daughter Daria. I was really surprised that she only left Daria one dollar in her will and left all the rest of her money to her daughter Christina. I don't know if that was because Howard Hughes was paying for Daria to live in the facility she was in or what. It just seemed odd to me. Thanks for sharing this video!

While my Mom tells a different story, my Dad once told me I was named for Gene Tierney's Laura. As a kid, I didn't know who she was, but since then I've become a big fan. While that one's my favorite, Leave Her to Heaven must've been difficult for her as a mother, esp. w/Daria. Back then in the early days of film, some considered acting as prostitution, maybe why some families and parents objected? Anyway, Gene Tierney's story is heartbreaking, but as you said, not unlike that of so many in Hollywood.😢

In England, women were simply not allowed on stage until the Restoration of King Charles I in May 1660. Then it was scandalous and it's true that many of the actresses were also 'ladies of the evening'. This attitude, that 'nice, well bred young ladies' didn't go into the acting profession has lasted, as we can see from the video well into the Forties!

Omg I’m so happy! Gene has ALWAYS been my favourite!! She was my introduction to old Hollywood when I watched one of her black and white films- her acting blew me away and made up for the lack of colour!

I believe that Gene Tierney and Rita Hayworth were the most beautiful actresses to come from that era. Sad, that both had mental health issues, and we're exploited by men in Hollywood. My other favorite is Ingrid Bergman.

Good points on the mental illness due to possible eating disorders and identity crisis due to the beauty pressures and sexual abuse mental physical abuse. These kinds of stressors are on plenty of every day women plus pressure of career and family. It’s not just happening in Hollywood obviously as women are taken advantage of all the time. Not just women. Everyone.

These are so well made Karine, the voice is very easy to listen . This is real journalism. Beauty can be a curse with all the demons lusting. The Gene Tierney's of the world can survive and excel. My girls had grandparents with Bibles in the house and were people of prayer. If you want fulfilling success give your life the One who died on the cross to save you. Not selling your soul to gain the world as many do today, only for destruction in the end.

Just my opinion, but I think she was the most beautiful woman of classic Hollywood. She was more beautiful then Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, or Rita Hayworth. She was magnificent in “leave her to heaven”

It takes a Very Strong Character to withstand such a physically focused world. Having solid representation via agent with integrity important. AND all actors who start out with an acting school, then doing theatre, then TV, then movies seem to do better; learning and making progress slowly.

Another thing all of these women (Gene, Vivien, Veronica) have in common, and I find fascinating, is they are Scorpios. I share the same bday as Lake. I’m also bipolar and have many of their similar experiences. Idk random thing I noticed. They were absolutely amazing.

Marilyn Monroe did not have Mexican roots. Her family moved to Mexico due to an agricultural situation in the states. The family learned to speak Spanish; however, this fact doesn't make Marilyn's roots/ancestry in the country of Mexico.

Thank you for presenting Gene Tierney. I always list her as one of the top 3 most beautiful women of all time. When I say that, I usually get blank stares of people not knowing who she is or saying they don’t like the hairstyle back then so they don’t think she’s pretty. As far as medicine now, yes it’s still barbaric. Can’t believe they pushed the “safe and effectives” on us with no data as to its safety. Time will tell…..

She was a beautiful woman with a classic Hollywood glamour. She was a talented actress who starred in some of the most iconic films of the 1940s and 1950s. She had a troubled personal life that made her relatable to the French public. She spoke fluent French and had a connection to their culture. The French are known for their appreciation of beauty, talent, and a good story. Gene Tierney had all of these things, and it is no wonder that she remains a beloved figure in France today.
