hey thx for responding, yeah its important to make available information that helps us all. Keep up the good work too enjoy listening to your views and watching your channel.
2nd video I have watched of yours and immediately feel like your giving real genuine information not influenced by any obligations. Been close to pulling tbe trigger on getting into building so these videos are great because I want to get it right the first time and not have to find out something sucks the hard way. Appreciate it man, stay genuine.
I loved all thirty minutes of that video, and am absolutely blown away by your knowledge of the products and your beautiful frames. Really helping me decide my next build👌
never cease to amaze me, another phenomenal video yet again sir. I never comment on nobodies video but yours I couldn't resist...great information and thank you.
Watched from start to finish; easy when the content is so good. Love your way of explaining complex ideas in layman's terms. Very excited about those props - ETA on retail production? go well, and fly happy. P.S. I'm sorry; I'm British therefore I don't floss :P
I don't need the ugly frame but I really wanna build an upside down quad with upside down motors even though it's not practical. Also I'm really really digging the 4" one. That frame but with a 20x20mm center stack I think is the perfect quad
+Samm Sheperd I'll send you a 4" when the prototypes come in. You're not gonna fly anything else anymore. All my other stuff is trash compared to these two.
How much are your new ghost frames? Or, how much are they GOING to be? Dunno if I wanna build my first quad with them or not. Could you make custom arms that would fit a 4.5 inch prop? Could you hybridize the design with the low top plate and stick through bottom FPV cam design you had on another frame? Any way to do a top mounted battery with the superlites?
I've heard people say upside down motors are much more protected in a crash. But they are more prone to getting caught in grass on takeoff/langing or after crashing...
Watched every second of this video. Terrific content, just how I like it. I am not afraid to sit down and relax for a long informative video such as this one. I would really appreciate a long, in depth video of batteries, as just like you, I have had it with my Turnigy Graphenes and am in search of some very high performance racing batteries that will be suit me. Love watching your vids man, keep the great work up!
Kabab FPV I see. I am sure there are at least a few people willing to watch a 30 minute long video to capture some valuable information. Either that, or they have nothing else better to do while waiting for batteries to charge ;)
Are you kidding me? I watched every second of the video. Your content is absolutely stellar and the most informative I've ever seen. You're like a god to me, I swear. Just keep up the amazing work. No one else gets me as excited about quad stuff as you do.
That might be true for most people, but you aren't most people. The stuff you have lying around is all really cool stuff! Getting to design and collaborate with others to make new motors? How cool is that? Don't even get me started on the dream of designing frames. And your propeller reviews! It was because of you that I bought my first cyclones, then the new GemFan 5152 PCs that I'm still waiting for in the mail, and now the Emax props that I MUST get when they become available. And I am SOO getting the Hyperfloss once it's officially released. I am going to be broke because of you and I will be smiling the WHOLE time.
It's either the FlightClub Tokio X or the Hyperfloss, But probably the Hyperfloss. I have always been convinced that smaller and lighter is better. And that first video where you ran it on the five inch blades and you did those two punch-outs.. I was instantly in love. I can't waaaaaaiit to see more videos and maybe more iterations of the Hyperfloss. You got me hook, line, and sinker, baby. Hehe.
I have watched it completly becease there is so much interesting and usfull infos. Thanks for that. Most of my recent build plans are considered based on your advices and information. I hope I will be able to build one of your build (probably the acro frame) in the future. Thanks again.
Oooh, that big motor looks like fun. I need to get going on my small build before I drool over large stuff. On a side note, I recently got a 270kV motor that's rated for 1500W on 6S that I plan on using for an electric scooter, lol.
Just went to my first race with my local chapter today. didn't even try the whole course, but i got some good freestyle in! It's crazy how much more locked in I am after only three days of flying.
I watch your videos for twenty mins ha. Oh and by the way thankyou for the knowledge you put out. I always learn something from you especially the twisting you talk about at the end of the video, a gentleman and a scholar!!!
Bob first off thanks for the exposure your giving my sponsor China Hobby Line, And I'd fly that frame for shits and giggles. For parts I'd throw on some old school red bottoms and some dys xs30a along with a kiss FC. Of course all these parts are coming from the spare parts drawer.
Outstanding and informative video ... thank you for putting it together. I really gained a lot from this. Keep up the outstanding research!! cheers ...
Interesting stuff, I have thought about taking one of my old frames, turning it upside down, and building it that way just for giggles. It's cool that you actually made a design that way. I will agree it didn't come out super pretty, but it's a cool idea. Give it another shot!
I definitely watch all your videos to the end. I love your perspective on things. It seems you are on the search for the holy grail of everything and I am very interested in that. I can't afford a lot, so it's good to know what is good quality for what I am paying for.
so much helpful information. thank you for the hard work you put into those videos can you please do a prop review for 6" props in the future? I'm working on a 6" build right now and don't know which motor KV and 6" props work out the best
I'd throw a F3 board onto that frame, some Emax white tops, and some 30A ESC's onto that thing and just try to rip a rift in time/space wide open. Great video. Looking forward to your monster build!
I only have one or two. It's honestly not really worth anyones time to build. The HyperFloss is much MUCH better. The prototypes are gonna be really cheap and come with a LOT of stuff.
good stuff bud, I had a catastrophic failure yesterday with my new build and the new Betaflight F3 FC that I had to wait a month and a half for is shot now so i'm watching youtube drone videos all day and lamenting over my shit luck. good stuff I really like the honest reviews. I'm going to try the new DYS F4 FC with the DYS aio ESC's for a 5 in build. Hopefully my build doesn't do the harlem shake on the bench again and I actually get it in the air this time.
When is the Foxeer 16x9 CCD cam coming out? I absolutely love the Monster. It's my goto unless I need a small cam. In those situations, I love the runicam mini..awesome cam too..just not 16x9.
Not 5 weeks...? Blue and orange are in-stock now: www.banggood.com/Foxeer-Monster-V2-1200TVL-CMOS-PAL-NTSC-FPV-Camera-with-OSD-and-Audio-p-1132704.html?rmmds=myorder
Those are the CMOS version. I have several and they're fantastic. He was talking about the CCD version, which should perform even better. Also, for what it's worth, I had a terrible experience with Banggood where a package went missing and they refused to do anything for me. I was a big customer of theirs too without any issues until this occurred. They were incredibly rude and demeaning and never resolved the problem. I never plan to purchase from them ever again. There are plenty of American hobby sites that for a couple bucks more are more reputable like ReadyMadeRC, ReadyToFlyQuads, Amain, HeliDirect, PiroflipRC, etc. Best part is you get your package in a few days. I highly encourage everyone not to buy from Banggood. In the least, don't waste your money on the additional shipping insurance Banggood offers, as it's clearly meaningless. Stepping down from my soapbox.
nice vid! had similar issues with wobbles and shakes in one of my arrow v2's and after changing lens it got better. Then I decided to softmount it (being abit skeptic that it would not cause other issues) and it made everything in the image soo much better. Did you try and switch to another lens?
Strix 1550 rock like nothing I've ever seen. Mylipo are variable, but drop super quick at the end. Indestructible quad batteries are somewhere in between the Strix and indestructible quad. For my lightweight rig..I really like the Turnigy 1000mah..amazing little value.
Bigger blades do not mean lower speed. WWII aircraft could do over 400 mph and they had 11 foot diameter propellers. It all depends how much power you are dealing with. With enough power a quadcopter with 10 inch+ blades could easily be as fast as a racing miniquad. I don't think it will ever be anywhere close to as nimble as a 5" miniquad, but a large rotor quad could easily be faster than a miniquad in a straight line with the right motors and battery. However, most of the large multirotor props are probably designed for hovering, not racing. So custom props would probably be needed. And the motors of the appropriate size are probably too low KV to be fast since they are designed for endurance hovering. So a custom motor wind will also probably be needed.
Plur307 no offense but there is so much you missed that it's just too much to write here on my phone. planes have wings. naturally move forward. just the power requirements to swing a big blade fast enough to get a multi rotor of large size up to speed is immense. it's not an easy task. the reason I cut the video there is because I knew there would be loads of debate. I figured I'll just build it, test and then discuss with better knowledge and experience.
I know I missed a bunch and I'm not trying to argue with you, love your content here on youtube. But I totally disagree with the concept that larger rotors are by definition slower. They just take much much more power to spin and that becomes less and less feasible from a lipo battery and electric motors as you go up in size. A blackhawk helicopter does not use wings and flies forward much like a multirotor and it can still do 200 mph with a 50 foot rotor. So long as a large rotor has the correct pitch and RPM and the motor has enough power a large rotor can fly all the way up to the practical limit which is when the tips of the prop are going supersonic.
Aaaaw.... just when I thought you had found the holy grail of props... the GemFan 5052x3 , now you're all crazy about that new EMAX prop. Well then, awesome. Thanks for sharing and lots of very interesting philosophies about what and how to use setups and combos and I'm glad you settled at 4045 for the 1407. I really hate to see motors getting overpropped. You end up with much more usable/reserve power/torque on a well-matched motor-prop combo
Yeah the 5" was a really dumb idea I had. Knew I could easily knock down to 4" however. The GF5152 was really good and I didn't think it could really get better but holy cow is this prop good. I don't think it's gonna bench test well however. It looks like a prop that needs to be moving. Whatever it is, I cannot even understand how it has such good low speed control AND it's the fastest triblade there is!
I would love to do the build on that frame for my dad so we can fly together! The build would consist of racerstar motors and escs. For the flight controller it would just be some cheap f3 flight controller. For the camera and vtx, it would be the ts5823 vtx and foxeer arrow camera. Not sure on the battery though.
Flu Flu FPV thank you very much. I'll see if there is a second one to send you. I just realized that I forgot about someone that has been following me for quite a while and really really REALLY does need it.
The electronics that I would use in that frame is the cc3d flight controller,MT2204 2300kv brushless motor,Simonk 12a esc brushless speed controller,5030 propellers and flysky fs t6 Thank
Nice video and quite interestingly informative even though recently I've only been flying smaller quads. My question is how do you find your profession/other hobbies relating to flying fpv or do you? Example being skateboarding or any extreme sport and flying quads.
I don't think that second battery you show is a fake 18650 cell. What you have there is a protected 18650 cell that has a protection between the + and -. That's why there's plastic tape running from top to bottom of the cell, too. Underneath there's a metal strip that connects the + to the - and has the protective circuit on top. It makes the battery a bit larger though but makes it safer. You can just peel off the plastic top really careful and remove that protection, that way you have a regular 18650 cell. Remember, these batteries weren't really made to be used in consumer electronics rather then to make all sorts of battery packs where in some situations the extra protection outweighs the size of the individual battery. Also, I guess if you use these batteries to vape and you have a spring loaded battery compartment a larger protected cell could be a tight but more protected option.
Crap you're right. I can't believe I missed that. Darn now I really can't charge them inside the stupid case. Maybe I'll try to rewire the case to add the balance line. Thanks for pointing that out. I feel really dumb for missing that.
You can just remove that if you want. It's nothing more than a sort of fuse on top connected to the bottom through that ribbon. Most of the times these protections are spot-welded to the top and bottom. Just be a bit careful that you don't short the + and - when you remove the top part because the "nipple" is + but the complete rest of the battery is -. Once removed you have a regular 18650. You could also get some of these: www.banggood.com/5Pcs-DIY-4-Slot-18650-Battery-Holder-With-8-Leads-p-982181.html? and charge your 18650 with your hobby charger. These batteries are more forgiving when it comes to balance charging. I have some 14s 13p packs for my bike, I have balance leads on them but charge them without balancing, just use the balance lead for testing. After a year of daily usage the cells are still perfectly balanced. Lipo's are different because of the very fast discharge. Take my opinion with a grain of salt and ultimately you chose what you feel safest with but I don't think balance charging is really necessary with Li-Ion batteries, the relatively slow charge and discharge is enough to let the cells balance out themselves.
With 235mm I like the idea of a six inch build and sticking the battery on the bottom, would have a ton of weight down low tho... (the little antenna hole you put on your frames is tight btw)
The top speed limiting factor for any moving object in air is drag. Whether this is overcome via amping up the thrust and powering through with a decently aerodynamic big quad or a minimized drag profile decently powered small quad depends on the goals. Larger motors spin less fast on average, but move proportionally more air (with a better drag profile often) at the cost of a higher torque to get em going change speed etc. In short what I'm saying is giant quads going 100+mph is definitely a thing! edit: Ok I lied a bit this is the one I had in mind with top speed of 98.8mph so not quite 100+ but dang near close www.fcracing.com/2017/02/03/freedom-class-v1-0-giant-racing-drone-completes-first-flight-test-records-speed-of-159kph/
First off, that bathtub looking thing is the least practical frame design in that size I could think of. Next, there is nothing in that video that looked faster than ~50mph absolute max and you could hear the thing maxed out throttle at times. It looks like it has zero punch too. Basically, I think the only time that thing might hit 100mph is in a dive straight down. I hope to race it one day so I can run circles around it ...
Those 2204 motors in the picture... When will they be released? It will be interesting to see how those lightweight motors will perform, especially with more modern motor technology that other 2204s lack.
Should be getting the prototypes this week. They're the same build as the other brother hobby motors so super strong magnets, super tight air gaps, super powerful build...lets see how they do.
My quad comes in at 240g dry with T-motor f40pro 2600kv. man i have to say i know exactly what you mean, once your down in that weight class you just cant go back. they fly so nice when your not trying to throw all that extra weight around
Great video, man. Love all the information. When you posted the 4" vs 5" fpv videos... what camera's were on those? It looked twice as good as anything I'm flying with. Is it my settings? I use mostly Foxeer and Runcam 600-700tvls.
DUDE! That ugly frame, lol, I'd be ECSTATIC if you sent me that thing. As you've probably been able to tell from my previous comments, I really want to get into stuff that's smaller than my 450mm behemoth, and a sturdy frame like that would be GREAT! I really need to get component selection down, though. I was looking into a smaller build for fun (3 inch?), but getting a frame to get started would definitely get me going into more race-sized stuff. For me, I'm mostly concerned about my Tx Rx setup because of the issues I've had with the stock setup from my Turnigy 9X. I'm a bit busy now to do a full component list, but you'd definitely see that frame on youtube later if you send it my way :) Anyway, happy flying!
LazerLord10 it's yours. email me your address. you will need to figure out an fpv cam mount. a simple printed one or something. I actually designed one to be printed from TPU so I'll email that over as well.
I think you got a defective one (foxeer arrow) or it could be the actual filter on the front of the lens. Those lenses have a filter on the front and that front piece unscrews, if it gets loose it will cause vibration in the fpv video. take the lens off, carefully clamp the threads in a vice and try to turn the front cover clockwise with some needle nose. If you hear glass crunching, then it's tight enough! Or just try another lens and you'll know.
I want that frame so bad! I would put Lumenier 2206 2350kv, Lumenier 30A Dshot ESCs, Lumenier LUX V2, TBS Unify Pro V2, RunCam Swift, and Spektrum Serial Diversity. It seems like an awesome concept.
I watched for a whole 30 minutes! I've got a few questions for you: I remember you mentioning your job in the past, but I don't remember if you've actually said what you do. Would you mind talking more about what you do when you're not flying quads? What were the parts for your fist quad and if you were starting out again would you change anything about them? I saw you commented on a video by Joshua Bardwell about the RunCam 3 and I was wondering if you were planning on getting one to compare to the gopro yourself?
Thank you so much for your videos. You are detailing everything I haven't found time to figure out myself. My family lives near SD in Spring Valley and I'll be visiting soon. I would love to link up and learn even more in person if you are flying. P.S. I floss daily because I had a dentist who cared and gave me the habit.
Yeah you're not the only one. About a third of the views watched this video all the way through. I expected maybe 5% to watch it all. So I'm gonna make more videos like this jam packed full of just info when I can. It's easier to make one long video for me than 10 little ones. Saves me time editing and shooting.
Hey Kabab FPV. Great video. I know I've heard you around the community but I'm new so if this question is silly excuse me...but where do I get the 4" And the 5" frame that you mentioned as your best? And yes, we do listen to your videos. And yes a Q&A session would be interesting. Thanks Kabab. I'll stand by for your directions on where ta buy the two frames.
what lightest frame would you sagest for building a quad with 3S 2200mah, thanks in advance, and thanks for this and other very informative videos you make, cheers !!!
Have you recently ordered an Infinity battery? I'm about to order some and would like to make sure that they havent started making ad batches of their once great products like china is infamous for doing.
I love big motors and big props, it reminds when i was flying my TBS Discovery or my 500 size quadcopter :) So rare to listen to somone who can criticize Fatshark products lol Enjoy your week
Was wondering with all those different packs do you para charge? If so what's your thoughts on mixing two different packs together? like for example two 1300's but by two different manufactures? ps Watched the whole 30 mins ;) keep it up bro!
I think it's fine to mix different packs as long as they're within ~1000mah of each other. Others will tell you another story. I don't parallel charge at all. I have a CQ3 charger with 4 lanes and I can charge them faster than I can fly them. No need to parallel.
I don't remember how I found your channel, but I like your practical approach to things. You need more subs mate! You manage to explain some things better than the grand stars of this hobby :)
Dang, less than I thought, lol. I guess it gets comparatively less expensive the longer you stay in it. I'm still in the phase where I don't have all the auxiliary gear such as (decent) FPV equipment, goPros, ect. I'm not sure if I'll ever get to that point, but at least I should be ripping around soon-ish.
+LazerLord10 well I also used to sell a lot of the stuff I didnt use anymore too. Now I have a lot of access to stuff thankfully so I'm starting to just do crazy things. Crazy things coming... Stay tuned.
Hey man, I was wondering when you reckon the ETA for those hyperfloss frames will be? I just barely missed out on the prototype order, but I am EXTREMELY interested in a 4" build. Anyways I love the content my friend and keep it coming! Thanks!!
I would put emax red bottoms, (because i have them)not sure about esc. Skitzo Raceflight fc ( because it's the only one I can figure out). Looks interesting. Could do A build video of it all. Anyway, good job, I enjoy your channel. Do the motors go upside down? I'm a build junkie ,i love to build.
id watch a Q&A about you @kabab. what do you do for a living, how did you get into the hobby, how long have you been in the hobby, where do you see the hobby going in x years... do props really cut butter?
At 22 minutes your talking about the new props.. man.. I have been flying RJX 5048 props. Just cheap ones. But they are so good, and so fast, I cant stand to fly anything else now.. and they have great low speed capabilities. WIN! Those look even better :)
Hallo Kabab, I would love to build that frame! I have some spare 2206 2200kV motors, 30A esc's and a F3 controller to put on it. Will then add a Foxeer Arrow or the Foxeer Night Wolf to try out some low light flying too :) I'll finish it with 5" triblades in pusher config (hidden wires & esc's would look awesome!) I have access to a 3D printer so the camera mounts won't be a problem... Chris
LA Hover planes have wings and very different props. the props usually have a much steeper pitch and have more effect than a multi rotor thats really in a hover movement all the time.
I would use the Brother Hobby Returner R4 2450kv motors, Spedix 30A esc, Betaflight F3 flight controller, runcam swift and of course some Dalprop cyclone v2's because they are the best.
I love your channel! You have great data, great footage, and you are a sharp analizer. I looked for the "speedX" 4n1 esc you mentioned and couldn't find it online, would you post me a link?
A good 30min vid.. My attention span never lasted this long in other vids.. 😂😂 And I thought somewhere in the beginning was a youtube ad.. i keep trying to look for that yellow bar.. 😂
Free frame… I'm looking to transfer out my components from my eachine falcon 180. I don't think that frame is that ugly, but anything would be better than what I have. 5" props is what I need.
Hmmm, that proto frame looks interesting, and I don't know why you shouldn't build it. I can give it a try with 2205 or 2306 emax-motors, dys xsd30av2, betaflight F3, RunCam swift or mini, XSR, KK 5x4x3 props. Would be an interesting test, because of the weight distribution (vs an xframe with battery bottom mounted). I prefer batteries on top! I'm from Belgium (EU), so don't know how much shipping would cost me.
for the frame i would build a bit of a frankendrone, id run multistar 2306 motors, racestar rs 20amp esc, f3 board of some discription and the biggest props the frame can take. just out of interest, why isnt there more 'under slung' frames like that one. also great content all the way through this video :) keep up the good work
Hmm interesting! I will build it with R4-2450 motors, XSD30A esc, AIO HGLRC fc, Foxeer monster V2, and TBS Unify :) I will probably design and print an fpv camera and gopro mounts so no problems here :)
we haven't gotten any yet. Larger prototype batch should be in next week and will be available to purchase in a very limited quantity while I try to optimized the dimensions of the parts. Hopefully with the help of the community...
would you recommend your 4" frame for freestyle or is it better of build a pure x 4" frame for freestyle. Sorry to ask so many questions... but I am looking for a 4" frame at the moment. Do you have a community chat facebook page or something for these frames?
Haven't read all the comments 500 is a big number :) all I have to say is that ncr18650 that you think is fake has a protection circuit on it ... on the negative pole... that's where the difference in height comes from... take the first layer of heat shrink tubing off get the protection circuit off the bottom and the cap off the top and it should be the same height. Bought a couple of those and they do seem like the real deal.
Teodor D yes you're right. someone pointed that out early on. I haven't messed with these cells in a while but I still feel really dumb for forgetting that...
I will use the cobra 2207 2450kv motors. The spedix 30A HV escs. The betaflight F3 flight controller. HQ V1S props. TBS unify pro, run cam swift 2 and tattu R-Line 1550mah lipo!
Could I bother you to get your thoughts on the t-motor F20II 1408 and what kv should be used to get optimal performance on the HQ 4x4.3x3v1s? I am bouncing between 3250 and 3750.
The reason I am back and forth is because I am unsure if the extra stator height will allow the motor to handle the prop well and with decent efficiency to spin it at the higher RPMs
Wish I could agree with the build quality of the Emax motors. I had 12 of the RS2205s 2600kv and 9 of them had slipping magnets and even broke a shaft on a lite crash. Ended up going back to brother hobby motors for their reliability and strength. Emax was kind enough to send me replacement bells. Just hope they up their build quality of the 2306 motors.
I'd love to build that frame - motors mounted upside-down grass cutter style. Battery slung on the bottom instead, use the battery straps ontop for the gopro mount. Camera (Ive a 100TVL CCD came sittign on the shelf ) mounted pointing just upwards- looks like it'd be easy to drill out a mount in the belly pan. And i've some Cobra Race edition 2206 2100kvs from that TBS facebook Closeout sale- that were going to end up on a tricopter otherwise.
I would like to give that frame a try as a los rig i would use a revolt fc 4in 1 esc with 2206 motors super short standoffs minimalist with LEDs on all 4 corners for orientation what do say?
Hi Kabab! What do you think about these EMAX props on BH2206 2300kV and 5S on a 560g AUW and on a 485g AUW quad? Any other prop suggestions for this setup?
i try to build my frames up and modify them so the center of battery is around the prop disc edges. ive tried above. its ok. below is a bit better but battery suffers. centerline is bang on. i do have a unique frame design that i would like to try and share. i just dont have a cnc... yet.....
I would put some RMC Rifle motors, some Diatone 30A ESC, and a F4 flight Controller on the frame you would giveaway. I am really good in building miniquads and also my builds are pretty lightweight. I hope I will get this frame!
