Unfortunately they both see each other several times in distance, or while starfighting. Also, the dialogue didn’t make it explicit but he wasn’t supposed to meet Obi Wan until ROTS’s beginning neither. The older Clone Wars in 2D respected this since Obi Wan and Anakin never meet Grievous
Since The Mandalorian, I have always wished for a Grievous spinoff of his origins or just returning in another show, I have my fingers crossed for the kenobi show with a flashback Grievous
there is a decent comic book series that outlines this. I don't remember what it was called, it may have been part of the 'republic' series... it's all legends content now, but still good. I like to fill in the blanks in the current canon with tidbits from legends. if it is changed in the future, then so be it.
Honestly there has been speculation that grievous survived or was rebuilt in a way to live again. Again this is like a theory I've heard and there's another one that goes with MaceWindu as well which btw was also theorized that he was supposed be seen in Mandalorian
@@middleearthriseofmordor7656 probably but yet again they do have some decent spinoffs of shows. Ngl tho the new Mulan movie is absolutely shit. But a grievous show does sound interesting
@@wingedbluj1674 In the 2003 version of The Clone Wars Grievous killed Jedi Master Daakman Barrek, Knight Tarr Seirr, and Padawan Sha'a Gi, and he very gravely injures Shaak Ti and Aayla Secura all in a single battle with Master Ki Adi Mundi being the only one to escape unharmed
I prefer his 2003 clone wars voice but this is easily not a bad replacement after windu crushed his chest plate and damaged his lungs giving him the new and iconic voice
@@roboticeggs Matthew Wood just IS General Grievous. The 2003 version just sounds like a generic British Robot bad guy. Matthew Wood gave him a very distinct sound, not to mention that iconic Slavic accent.

46:39 i keep forgetting how funny it is when obiwan tried to sweep grievous' leg and basically kicked a metal pole with his shin. The wince in pain afterwards only makes it better.
I hate how underused his new model is. Because it looks amazing. Like we literally only see him in introductions all because they killed him off in Revenge Of The Sith.
It's more fault of the show being cancelled, there were two seasons with Grievous having that model, sadly none of the episodes that made it into the revival season had Grievous in them.
@@derrickstorm6976 well, it's more complicated than that, let's just say that a show with an ugly alien warrior (later being a Cyborg) as the main character isn't easy to make, let alone interesting enough to be a huge success, and it doesn't help that we already know where Grievous's story goes. It's hard for people to feel connected to main characters that aren't humans(or at least aliens similar to humans, like Twi Leks or Togrutas) that's why there aren't many stories with Ithorians or rodians as main characters, and a Kaleesh like Grievous is hardly similar to a human. I wish they did something like an animated movie or short about Grievous, I mean, that would be less risky and it would offer a chance of showing more of him.
I like how 90% of the time Grievous takes his role as General very seriously and acts like a very smart little pawn and does what Dooku says to keep the war going. He's a brilliant soldier who knows all about strategy and scheming and manipulation. But then that one scene at 20:00 shows that sometimes he can just be a little crazy. "I don't care about your politics or your republic. I just know that causing this man pain will hurt you all! (maniacal laughter)"
I feel like a lot of the times Grievous plays the "Saturday morning cartoon villain", while his original intent, could easily be replaced with other characters. I can easily see Watt Tambor as the one running the Malevolence, or other generals like Loathsome and maybe introduce Durge. I wish they played up Grievous as a notorious Jedi-Killer instead of just the coward who runs away when he starts losing, really gives the idea that he was one of the few villains in Clone Wars that was legitimate threat to the Jedi. While he is still one of my favorite villains this still feels like a disservice to his character.
That’s a good point, his roles like this really could have been interchangeable with a less intimidating enemy. It just feels like a quota of using Grievous had to be met in the early seasons so it wasn’t always Dooku and Ventress they were up against. He is absolutely without a doubt the one thing the Clone Wars actively made worse in one way or another. I think if the 2003 series hadn’t been released before episode 3 then it probably wouldn’t have been as big of a deal to anyone
I actually have grown to like coward grievous, at least some. His cowardice makes him feel less like a machine like Vader and more like an animal whose main goal is survival. He hunts like an animal and knows when to back off a hunt like one. It makes him more unique in my eyes, rose tinted as they may be
@@sulwhale3171I mean, as the creator he technically has a right to decide what to do with his characters. According to “The Making of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith” they really struggled to nail down a design for Grievous initially, but I assume it happened in time for the animated series to take it and roll with it. Idk if that was for character reasons or simply because they couldn’t find a look that fit. But regardless, I do think while the animalistic part of his character is interesting in its own way, it’s not as threatening as an antagonistic force. Like when Dooku flees, it feels like strategy. When Grievous feels, it just feels like petty cowardice. He talks up how great he is, but he doesn’t live up to it. I don’t think that’s a bad character trait but for the droid leader of the Separatist army he should be more of a menace. Otherwise no dice he survives 3 years of the Clone Wars
Count Dooku also fell into this, the Clone Wars made it seem like he was being captured every other week and much less of a cunning mastermind that could outclass Grievous himself. They did both of them dirty.
Interesting how most of his screen time was in the early seasons. Then Dooku and Maul took over in the later seasons. A shame he wasn’t featured more later on, and a shame that his episodes in season 7 will never be finished.
real shame his scenes in crystal crisis, son of dathomir, and dark disciple may never be completed, especially because all his post-season 5 appearances would have had that beautiful new model that was in the beginning of the siege of mandalore
@@carnage0685 Unfortunately. I think he mainly uses Grievous as a way to prove his characters are better or more powerful than him (Specifically Ahsoka and Ventress). I feel like Grievous canonically isn't trying very hard in these duels, and is mostly just toying with them until he loses interest.
@@spingus_bingus987 But Grievous easily defeated Ahsoka in both of their encounters? If anything, managing to put up a fight against some of the best Jedi in the order (Obi Wan and Kit Fisto) without even being able to use the force is very admirable
@@generalgrievous8017 Comics show him killing Jedi pretty effortlessly. The issue with this show is that he pretty much fought Obi Wan or Council level Jedi meaning he really couldn't go ham. They started correcting this with the Jedi padawan training arc and the unfinished Utapau arc would've had him defeat Obi Wan in a duel fair and square. Shame that we may never get to see that arc completed though.

Battle Droid: I don’t know, I haven’t used it yet.” Grievous launches droid in the air. Battle Droid: “All right, I’ll check on it!” Grievous: “Stupid Battle Droids!” 😂
I mean he didn't got his Aas kicked very often, he beat Kenobi multiple Times in the Fight. The only thing is, that he encounters Main Characters in the Series.
Nothing says badass like a four armed robot with a cape and a real villainous kind of voice The way he spins his lightsabers when attacking just screams "you better not mess with me or you're done". Easily one of the best star wars villains
I honestly feel kinda bad for the dude when he died cause he died right before order 66 he could’ve seen so many Jedi die and would’ve got so many new lightsabers to add to his collection
I always felt like General Grievous was the biggest missed opportunity in any prequel character. He would’ve made such a great villain, had his origins and goal been explored more.
Honestly all the prequel apprentices are super underrated people are focused on vader and there were too many apprentices for any individual one to get that much development but each individual one was pretty good it’s just none of them got to shine amongst anakin as well as completely unrelated stuff like zam wessle jango fett boba fetts origin that made it impossible for them to get any development without it being rushed so they are kind of flat as result
one thing filoni did wrong was General Grevious, had he kept the 2004 clone wars grevious even a smidge of him the show wouldve truly brought balance to the force
That version has never been canon. Dave kept continuity with what George did for episode 3. And honestly after playing Battlefront 2 so many times I understand the character a lot more. He’s not force sensitive and he can’t block lightsaber blasts like a Jedi, only option he’s got is to run away when he’s outmatched and outgunned. The 2004 version is bull.
@@iamchrispaezjr it was canon for literally years before Disney, and that whole show as a piece of animation stands head and shoulders over anything they've created. Seethe harder, mouse shill.
@@vnom84 To be fair, that version of Grievous was never CANON-canon, Lucas made that clear with RotS and his commentary on Grievous and the interactions he had with directing where Grievous needed to be in status for the old Clone Wars show. Lucas wanted your Saturday-morning cartoon villain, and that's what we ultimately got as the canon-canon.
People hate the Slavic voice and prefer the Tardicoski one, but honestly I think Wood's performance is more recognizable, like nothing against DiMaggio because he's a talented gentlemen, but Matthew was able to try something unique. Plus it makes him sound like an actual alien, since he was originally an organic Kaleesh before he had been modified into becoming what he is now. Plus the whole vocal effect makes can be really terrifying. If they had kept Grievous' depiction from the 2003 series along with Matthew Wood's performance, then I think Grievous would've been a more well recieved Villain!
Meanwhile, Grievous from Legends (especially 2003 Clone Wars) *kills Jedi* speaks a little *kills more Jedi* updates his collection of lightsabers *returns to killing Jedi*
I used to hate watching him die cause he was awesome, but knowing his backstory now, I’m almost glad cause he’s at least at peace in some way and not in pain anymore
Of course, commander! You are unflappable and unstoppable! But it is a very pity that your persona was CORRECT only for the first 13 months (starting from April 8, 2004), and for the remaining 16 years the name Grievous associated with those two misunderstandings that were after you. You appeared in only 6 episodes (6!!), you have only 7 minutes of screentime (7!!), you have only 9 replicas (9!!), but it was enough for us to love you then, in 2004th, and we continue to love you to this day... but only those who still remember you.
I loved Grievous as a villain when he debuted in the 2003 series and his injured state in ROTS. I can still see potential with him, but there really were some parts in TCW that made me question why he was made a general.
what bothers me is that, while they made sure to add a lot of canon victories to his story to keep him credible, most of them weren't televised. But all his losses were. So as a child or a casual fan watching this you remember him always loosing, which is unfortunate.
I can’t be the only one that would love to see a miniseries or a Star Wars story movie based on him. It would be interesting to see what his past life was like before he became a General for the Seperatist droid army.
You might like his Dark Horse comics, it's set during the Clone Wars but it's mostly from his perspective and it's probably the best he's been depicted.
That's one of my problems with the prequels. If there had been only one villain other than Palpatine for all three films, the time spent introducing each new villain would have been spent better developing some other aspects of the story.
Grievous fans complain a lot about canon Grievous, but I actually like the (what I call) Starscream Grievous better. He's a more believable villain. Sure, legends Grievous is badass but he's too much like Vader. Just a menacing, quiet, killing machine. Cannon Grievous taunts, laughs, fights dirty, and has no honor. I like that type of villain as I think it fits well. And with just his droid army manages to take on both the Republic and the entire Jedi Order in a galactic war. That's impressive, and shows his tactical prowess. Aside from that, he does manage to hold his own or even defeat Jedi masters on multiple occasions. He does that with no force ability and a robotic body. On top of that he is an established Jedi killer in canon lore, we know he has a dozen or so Jedi Knight kills. Very few characters in Star Wars can do that. I always liked the line where he says "You expect victory over Jedi, but all you give me to fight them are battle droids." In the end Grievous was nothing but a pawn, but man he turned the galaxy upside down and shook the Jedi Order in the process. That's boss status in my book.
Roles General grievous served as the a major antagonist of Star Wars: clones war (serving as the secondary antagonist of Seasons 1 and 2, a major antagonist in Seasons 3, 4, and 5 and posthumous antagonist in Season 7), as the secondary antagonist of Revenge of Sith and a posthumous antagonist in the 2021 TV series Star Wars: The Bad Batch
I like how towards the end of the Clone Wars show he's more badass and less cowardly like he was when he first came into the show the original animated series
Anakin: I have a bad feeling about this Padme: I have a bad feeling about this Obi wan: I have a bad feeling about this Droid: I have a bad feeling about this Han solo: *I have a BAD feeling about this*
Grievous is one of the best characters created by George Lucas. His storyline is very impressive. And the video is a perfect résumé for his role during the Clone Wars.
I’d like to imagine he didn’t fully die and managed to leave utapau and decided to settle down and open a lightsaber museum so everyone can enjoy his fine additions to his collection
@@RonaldAsks my guess is that they couldn’t make his flexible 2D fighting style work in 3D. But I believe that Lucas didn’t like the OP’ ness of the combat in that series. Which is a shame, because I really like that series.
