GENERAL MOTORS BIGGEST MISTAKE! The 50 Millionth GM Car(s) that were almost forgotten FOREVER!

This past weekend Vicki and so made a trip to the Detroit Autorama to see a very special 1955 Chevrolet Belair that was on display for the first time ever.
The car is a brand new build, built as a tribute to the 50 millionth car produced by General Motors.
The real 50 Millionth car was sold by GM many years ago and was lost in a garage fire in 1996.
However, thanks to a group of Avid Enthusiasts, a completely brand new 55 Chevy was built as a tribute to the real car that was gone forever.
But what nobody knew until this group of guys began trying to replicate the original, was that there wasn’t just ONE 24k Gold Plated 55 Chevy. THERE WERE 3! And all of them LOST with hardly any official documentation!
How could this happen to the most iconic and most highly celebrated brand new car in the history of The United States?
You’d be surprised…. I know I was.

My Dad was Born in 1932 and he Passed away in 2019 at 85, And over the Years had told me Many, Many times that there was no Greater Time in America than the 1940s and 50s! He said everyone was Working, Making Money, Buying Houses and had plenty of Money to do whatever you wanted to do, Because everyone was Happy, Happy, Happy! A far Cry from what's going on now in this World.

DUDE, MARK FROM A-1 AUTO IS TOP NOTCH IN CUSTOMER SERVICE! He's that cool old school auto parts guy that is a treasure. Around here, it's ALL big corporations with no one like him anymore. These type of people and businesses ARE MISSED in the auto industry. Good knowledgeable people who care about your ride and getting the right parts that you need. Plus, HE ALWAYS HELPS WITH A SMILE TOO! What a great guy and business! Thanks to all the people and shops who still practice old school good customer service, it's appreciated by many. Anyway, just wanted to give praise to this amazing old school shop, way to go! Thanks for the video 📸.

I'm old enough to remember car shopping with my dad in late 1956, we stopped at a Chevrolet dealer, and they were preparing a Black 57 Two ten 2 door sedan for delivery. It was a 3 speed manual transmission and a 283 V8. I tried my best to get him to buy it, but he said no.😢😢😢

Dad‘s got three NHRA Wally s . He worked at chet and Jerry Wilson’s Racing Engines, Wichita, Kansas my dad worked there 17 years professional engine builder. That’s what I do. Hey Bill, Amazing video! I bleed chevy orange, I was born to live the SBC life and i will live it untill i die! I was born into a strictly GM family being as my grandpa (my Dads-Dad) was a Physicist & Engineer for GM, Specifically Chevy & Pontiac( I mention this in my last 2 videos)... Back in the late 1960's into early 1970 My Grandfather was a consultant on an experimental pontiac 427 Hemi engine that was said to produce 650 ish HP ( Im talked about this experimental engine a lil in the new camshaft video ive been working on for awhile).. My grandpa also knew/worked with Smokey Yunick for a period of time in the early 80's at Pontiac(I've mentioned this in my first cam vid)... My grandpa had a 55 Chevy when i was a lil kid and the 55 Chevy was my dads favourite car, I aim to build one some day before I d!e as a tribute to bolth of them... In my last camshaft vid I shared alot of rare knowledge with dyno data that I learned from my Grandfather, My Dad and threw complex experience about optimal valve event timing & how to get max VE (aka max TQ & HP) across the entire rpm range in any conventional headed V8 engine combination... its information you literally will not find anywhere other than mabey a top prostock engine builder... David Vizard loved my videos, ive also been told by many people that they learned more from my cam vids than they did from all of Billy Godbolds newest book and even a 3 day $800 David Vizard seminar... Id say it's well worth the watch if you have the time bill, I wanted to share this knowledge with you personally but your a busy man an i don't want to bother you so i decided to share it with everyone and ive had good success in doing so, my first cam vid has 145,000+views & my new one has 41,000+views, bolth videos just keep climbing & bringing in the subs!!! Again Bill, I loved this video, To be honest I really felt it inside as it triggered memories of the past with my Dad & Grandfather who are bolth no longer here... Take Care Buddy... ~ Adam ~

Much respect for you guys passing this information down the line and actually documenting it.. There is too much knowledge not being passed down to the modern youth today.. I learned from my grandfather so much mechanical knowledge its crazy, he was a crew chief/mechanic engineer in ww2 on a b24 crew based in England.. 2 yrs before he passed when I was 19 (43 now) he shared some stories with me of his job, and training learning every nut and bolt on the aircraft, maintaining and repairing off flight times, and having to man the top turret during bombing missions.. He explained how it was -60f to -70deg at altitude and they had to wear heated suits and how miserable the cold was. After the war he was hired as an engineer for Rolls Royce/Allison in Indianapolis and was on the team of engineers that developed the T56 turboprop jet turbine engine that was in use for like 50yrs in many forms.. His mechanical knowledge was immense.. I also became and engineer but I feel like a mere peasant compared to his accomplishments.. I wish I had recorded his stories he gave me, but my love and respect for him and all those men from those days will live on in my head for the rest of my life.. Lots of knowledge is lost and as I stated I really respect you documenting these things and passing them down for further generations to enjoy and use.

As soon as I started hearing you talk about this 50 millionth 55. I immediately called my grandfather who's 89 and retired from gm in 93 to see if he remembered anything about this car unfortunately he did not . But in 55 he wasn't a american car enthusiast he was more on the European cars following is Italian roots . I also asked him if he ever owned a 55 and that was a no . Closest was a Olds 98 ? Or 88 ? Between 55-61 model years . My grandfather probably owned as we had our conversation between 100-125 cars in his life time. Bill, if you wouldn't of posted this video I wouldn't of called my grandfather and talked to him about cars for 20 minutes and that's a conversation I don't think I'll ever forget. Thank you .

Well, unfortunately that’s when you get rooked by a street racer from New York! You can trust what those guys say as much as a New York politician, lol 😂 At least it’s something that was gonna go into the MailCamjno and not something needed for a build with turbos or NoS. Makes you really wonder about the “Originality” of the rest of that SS Nova tho. Tyler may not have the cream puff he’s always thought he had or he did know and that’s why he was not taking issue with stripping the car down the way he is to update it instead of leaving it factory SS

The 307 was never a bad power plant, it just was never even close to being the king of HP. Personally, I am glad that the ElCamino is getting a rare power plant. While the 327 would have been awesome, the 307 fits the bill very nicely too.

My dad always said the same thing about tri five Chevrolets, 56 was his favorite too. He has a thing against 57s for a reason...back in 1957 a friend had a new all black 4dr hardtop. They were running the hills in eastern Kentucky where they lived back then. Driver rolled the car 2 times and landed on its wheels. Dad got his rear end caught between the seat back and the crushed roof. Nobody got hurt tho'. They took the bumper jack and raised the roof enough to drive it home, but not till after running the wheels off the car some more that evening. Dealer ended up putting a new roof on the car and looked like new in the end. That story is why dad didn't like the 57s, lol.

I love the history of GM because my family built cars in Flint MI as GM employees and I think it's great to see old video footage from those good ol' days. Thanks 👍

I'm not a Chevy guy at all but I love the history behind the Chevrolet Belair. To be honest I just love cars, 50's 60's and 70's are the greatest. Thanks so much I enjoyed the video.

Bill, awesome video Thank you for everything that you uncovered about the 55 Chevy! And the fact that you have the history growing up with that car in your family. You're an awesome guy to do what you're doing for your family's original 55. I too grew up in a family where the 55 was an icon to our collection of vehicles. That 55 has now been passed down through generations and is still an awesome icon.

Tanner is a great addition to the SRC Team! He tries his best to please everyone as best he can with his work. He's a lighter version of Firetruck 🚒, the funny old school "Grumpy Old Man" type of personality. Tanner really matches the team perfectly. Great pick on this guy! As long as he's respectful, a keeper. Anyway, thanks for the video 📸.

Back in the day, I worked in auto parts stores like Mark's, where nothing got thrown away. When they go back in the aisles to find an obscure part, it brings back fond memories. What isn't a fond memory was doing inventory, no computers in those days.

I’ve seen quite a few of nova ss’s with 307’s from the factory, there were 350 cars too but a 307 could’ve been factory or swapped a long time ago. Great history lesson though Bill, I didn’t know they built 3 of them either. Keep up the great work guys, absolutely killing it.
