Chester killing it as always. Rock solid drumming. Genesis and PC we're blessed with his incredible gifts. Love Domino. One of my top favorite songs! Sorry for Phil's diminishing health. God bless.
One of their best tracks without a shadow of a doubt - Phil Collins during this era was invincible!! - 'There's nothing you can do if you're the next in line' !!
Masterpiece of Genesis. Oh my God, The Rolling Stones, Kiss, Genesis, The Police...I'm 52 and enjoyed that great music when I was a teenager. Compared to the music of today which is horrendous
I'm 50 and I disagree with that last statement. There's still a lot of great music being made, just like back then a lot of crap was made besides those gems that are still being played. It's different, that's all
@@davidgroeneveld1382 I think whenever people say "old music was better" or "there is no good music anymore" , they don't mean that to all extremes. They mean that there was popular music they enjoyed back then, stuff that was playing on radio, tv, "current gen bands" who sold out big stadiums. I love to listen to artists like Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Metallica, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Queen, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Gary Moore, Depeche Mode, Rush and much more stuff from the past. Those artists were big, worldwide phenomenons in their prime. Newer Artists I like are for example Taskforce Toxicator, Chemical Way, Hans Lazer Alien Slam, Beerhammer, Wandar, Path Of Destiny, Miami Nights 1984, Victim, Airbourne, Parkway Drive, Eisbrecher and stuff like that. Who da fuq are they in terms of popularity compared to those older bands? They are basically nobodies. Artists like Doja Cat, Harry Styles, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Capital Bra, BTS, Taylor Swift, etc. are what is considered popular today. I think all of them sound like crap and are really forgettable. I am 24 and there is no "current gen musician", that I like, who is a worldwide superstar. I rarely heard people who lived through 50s-90s say that they didn't enjoy at least some of the popular artists back then but I've often heard people from my generation say "Where is our Elvis Presley, Beatles, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Metallica, Nirvana, etc.? Why can't we have artists like that?". What I mean is, that it isn't that music got bad. It is just that music, which isn't made after a formula which guarantees big money and degrades the artitistical value of a song, is basically fucked today. Guys like Max Martin perfected "pop formula" and that will get milked because it works for the big music labels.
@@conordoyle9481 , @David Groeneveld No, he's right. I know every generation says it, but this time is different, otherwise consider this: Will the 2000's, 2010's and possibly the 2020's be distinguishable decades in music? Will they have each one a unique and influential sound and huge impact in the culture like the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s? Will they be remembered in 50 years? They will not, will they? Then I rest my case. Yes, "music changed", and not for the better; but the business changed even more.
This is without any shadow of a doubt one of the best songs ever written. As much as I love Gabriel-Hackett-Genesis, this is definitely one of their best songs
I was there and god we all wondered where Phil had gone during the bridge section and were thrilled when we saw him appear in the middle of the screen. Quite unexpected
@@purehyperbole5727 Indeed.. I suppose Tarquin's comment (as all the other numerous "underrated" comments) refers to the masses, i.e. expresses that Phil's not sufficiently appreciated in quantity. Every music aficionado is perfectly aware of Phil's talents, i.e. he's certainly appreciated in quality.
Millions of ordinary people are there They gaze at the scenery And I was one of them... (In Dusseldorf and Amsterdam) Never have seen a better concert. Never will.
Good grief the pubs and clubs in London (for my generation) in the late 70s through to the late nineties were a glorious time - incredible music like this for free if you were in the know! Ska bands in Camden in the Fusilier on a Saturday lunchtime! Glorious 😉👍
The light show was absolutely fantastic. I loved the effect, it reminded me a lot of the opening titles to Doctor Who (a great many years ago) and if that was indeed the intention then it's equally impressive and in particular how they manage to get Phil's face in the middle of it.
I became aware of genesis in my time at Manchester University back in 1975 and nearly 50 years they are still the best lots of love to phil without whom I dont believe they could have continued
At 6:40, wow still gives me chills. I remember hearing this song for the first in 1988 or 89 on cassette. I also remember rewinding that part of the song too 😂. Oh the memories, love your music Genesis. Invisible Touch album, just amazing. Thanks 🙏 for bringing us such great music 👏🏻
What a fantastic show Genesis put on, love the lights and the special effects particularly when Collins was able to go and stand somewhere out of sight then project his face onto the massive screens behind the band (very clever).
The grey of evening fills the room, No need to look outside, To see or feel the rain. I reach across to touch her, But I know that she's not there. Rain keeps running down the window pane. Time is running out for me. Can't you see what you are doing to me? Can't you see what you have done? As I try to pass another long and sleepless night, A hundred crazy voices call my name, As I try to pass them by, I almost can believe that she is here, In the glow of the night. Do you know what you have done? Do you know what you've begun? Do you see we shall never be together again? All of my life. Lonely people, empty rooms, Pointless violence, silent tombs. Could it be that we shall be together again? Sheets of double glazing help to keep outside the night, Only foreign city sirens can cut through, Nylon sheets and blankets help to minimize the cold. But they can't keep out the chilling sounds. Will the nightmare soon give way to dreaming That she is here with me? In the glow of the night. Do you know what you have done? Do you know what you've begun? Do you see we shall never be together again? Lonely people, empty rooms, Pointless violence, silent tombs. Could it be that we shall be together again? In silence and darkness We held each other near that night We prayed it would last forever. Blood on the windows Millions of ordinary people are there They gaze at the scenery They act as if it is perfectly clear Take a look at the mountains Take a look at the beautiful river of blood. The liquid surrounds me I fight to rise from this river of hell I stare round about me Children are swimming and playing with boats Their features are changing Their bodies dissolve and I am alone. Now see what you've gone and done. Now you never did see such a terrible thing As was seen last night on T.V. Maybe if we're lucky, they will show it again Such a terrible thing to see There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line You've got to go domino. Now I'm one with the living and I'm feeling just fine I know what I must do Play the game of happiness and never let on That it only lives on in a song There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line You've got to go domino. Do you know what you have done? Do you know what you've begun? In silence and darkness Hold each other near tonight For will it last forever? There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line You've got to go domino.
Fantastic musicians, song writers and performers. I love watching this concert. Thank you to whoever uploaded it to RU-vid. Some of the medleys I'm not keen on, but there are some amazing songs in this concert. Superb band.
when i was younger i took a trip to the south of france and this song/album will forever remind me of driving long hours through the night all across the region. nostalgia is powerful
This is vintage Genesis in my opinion you could not get any better all members excel Collins great vocals Tony and Mike there usual best pity they will never play again together but we much appreciate class when we hear it
Great to see this posted in such stunning quality. Like I said in a comment to another clip you posted, I was there at the very front and when Phil asked the audience to shout 'domino', man that was deafening. Mike stood there with his mouth open and Daryl put his hands to his ears. lol.
Hope to see Genesis at least once again live. Best would be at Prater Stadion in Vienna, Austria, Europe, where I saw them in 1987 and decided to start playing drums, THX & Cheerio, fil of WeinHara.
This is what Genesis is known for. From day one, Peter Gabriel time, these guys were all about the show they put on. Phill continued the theme, to a high and very effective level.
man i just spent a month in the bush prospecting for gold and forgot to upload music on my NONPOD and pretty much only had this song and a few others. Listened to it so much, especially at night around the campfire after everyone went to sleep. Spent a lot of time looking up at the stars and pondering my place in this universe. my only complaint is they could do with a 10 minute ending tacked on. This song is too short!!!! but there aint nothing you can do cause were all next in line
I always like the 'cover' version of this song, that is, until I saw this live version -WOW !!! What a perfect song to do at a concert. Thanks so much for posting.
