I've never seen someone consume so much Genshin content without even touching the game

In April, a guy was arrested after breaking in to Mihoyo's building with a knife and a plan to assassinate their CEO. He was allegedly upset about changes to Honkai Impact. People are crazy everywhere, not just in America, and take gacha games very seriously. As for Genshin twitter, I don't think its necessarily worse than other spaces, but I think the percentage of negativity is higher on Genshin twitter. Its a miserable community.

There are always toxic vocal minorities within any fandom. It just so happens that a small minority of the Genshin fandom happens to be a lot of people.

Tbf I think Asmon is on point here, why would they even care about the opinions of their american playerbase? They make 1.2B USD from China alone, they even make more money from their playerbase in Japan compared to those in the US. It's their game they can do what they want with it, you don't like it then just don't play the game. Simple enough.

The funniest part is that if they'd just waited for the patch and played the story they would've realised the entire desert region is filled with dark skinned people and there was a story related reason for the lack of the same in the capital. But nope. Instead, they made the assumption that offended them the most based on some leaks and attacked innocent people.

I love how we arabs and indians didn't even bother about the skin colors about sumeru which is supposed to be a representative expansion about us i swear atleast 99% of the war that happened were westerns

Oh, and that character that everyone complained that was "too white" is the second most sold char in the game. People talk with their wallets.

Fun fact: most people from the Middle East didn't care about the characters' skin color in the new region. They only asked for Arabic subtitles, which Hoyo hasn't added to this day. It's very annoying seeing people getting offended on your behalf.

I am Arabi and I actually enjoyed Semeru update we have many white people here too so the skin color is not an issue tbh. and I have enjoyed all the easter eggs Hoyo put through the Arabic names for example at Arru village there are 2 npcs close to each other Kulsoom and Sabbah both close to each other and both were names for Arabic famous old singers one is Um Kulsoom (Egyptian) and Sabbah (Lebanese) also the Doctor (Zandyk means Heretic) .

Thank goodness I'm one of the Genshin players that uses Twitter, while being in a healthy headspace. Meaning I don't ever interact with those weirdos, I just like some posts when the official account posts them.

I've played Genshin since day 1 and I've found what works best (for me, anyway) is just enjoying the game with a smaller community rather than trying to deal with the general playerbase. Unfortunately, the worst Genshin "fan" takes usually blow up the most, which is a shame because there really are many good members within the community, especially artists and fan animators.

The thing with genshin leaks is that there is attack animations and model leaks, then there's *those* leaks. *Those* leaks leak the characters entire kit. This makes people less likely to spend money on current characters I save for future characters.

I was surprised that Asmon was surpised that people were mad of not enough people having darker skin tone in a game, like it has been happening since the dawn of 3d and in TV too lol I don't think I've ever seen someone complaining that there were too many dark skinned people in a tv show or a game, they do when they race swap established characters though.

Dude, Sumeru is inspired by South Asia and Egypt. It is dumb that all the characters from this region that should have at least some brown and black skinned people are all white or slightly tanned. Like Mihoyo is borrowing from a culture but are like nah bro we ain't about that skin color.

I have a chance to trained on a Chinese company that do 3d model assets for games before and this is what they told us about leaking contents " Imagine that you got caught for leaking company contents the amount of money that you pay when you got sued is enough for you to buy 2 house and lot now also imagine that the content that you leak have been seen by the developers supervising us they can sued this company double or even triple the amount that you gonna pay us when we sued you. We are all silence on that room and you can feel the awkwardness in the air what our boss says on that time still stuck on my head up to this point.

I don't think characters for a story in a game have a huge need to be diverse. But the character creation needs to try and encompass hairstyles and appearances from different backgrounds.

I've been playing Genshin a lot recently and I can admit that the game is really fun, the community is quite the opposite. I always give 2 rules to my friends when they want to play this game. Those being. 1. Never stay invested in the community 2. Play as optimally as you want, with what you have, don't pay money, don't over grind, don't Min-Max, just do what you think is fun for you.

I personally enjoy genshin as much as I can because i find a lot of aspects of the game to be entertaining and some things that aren’t as entertaining. Its community isnt very fun. Its very fun as a solo game and unfortunately none of my friends in my circle have tried it or played it yet so im just stuck playing Genshin solo forever. Making friends over this game is increasingly difficult.

On Lotro game you can change the character colour. There done solved. Slider , do you want a white as a new paper roll there , do you want black as the night of the darkest days there you got it, you can even get it half done. It's a game from ages ago , btw the game is amazing.

Here's my take on the whole "ethno wars" thing right. Amongst the general consensus of the Genshin community that lives outside of Twitter, it's kind of a hot take, but hear me out (tl;dr at bottom) I'm South Asian myself, and I was ECSTATIC when I heard the rumours that Sumeru would have some MENASA (Middle East/North Africa/South Asian) inspiration. We only knew of the existence of Cyno (an ancient Egyptian-style character), the Sumeru Akademiya (the region's university/technocratic government) and things like Sabzeruz inspired by Iranian culture. Not to mention the inclusion of "Purana" in the flagship Sumeru quest's working title which hinted at some Indian inspired lore too. It sounds like a bizarre hodgepodge of cultures (sorta like Sargon if you play Arknights), and there was some outcry over this, but the final product manages to make it feel realistic and cohesive. Regardless, I'm just glad that I could finally relate to a culture in the game that isn't white, Chinese or Japanese (the first three nations released). Imo, just because the game was made in China for a primarily East Asian audience doesn't mean ALL of the characters have to conform to that demographic standard. Because the game had already established that there would be multiple regions based on real-world places and cultures. Are we really supposed to believe that everyone in Teyvat is the same shade of pale even though there are places seemingly based on MENASA (Sumeru) and Mesoamerica (Natlan), where people have olive, tan or even darker skin? Having characters of different skin tones makes the world feel more realistic, it establishes that there are different peoples. Because people tend to associate different skin tones with different cultures. Is that not something to consider when designing an entire WORLD of different nations? tl;dr Teyvat is based on different real world cultures, and the devs go out of their way to directly pull certain aspects from those cultures to craft their world (like food, festivals, folklore and so on). So why should they stop at accurately representing the diversity of skin tones?

-Tectone Gaslighted jinjinx in the Genshin community, which is a respected theorycrafter( person who calcs characters worth going for or helped the playerbase realize that the game has f2p characters that are hella strong) at the time. -Tectone made fun of jinjinx mental health issue -Tectone blindly accused AtsuStream (Genshin content creator) and spun his own narrative the atsu mocked fream (Tectone's now ex). Although this is also GooseEgg (Genshin yt content creator) gaslighted tectone making his bombastic personality worse. -Tectone made a private situation into a public situation with Atsu -Tectone mocks keqingmains(Theorycrafters) but they aren't particularly close to him to evne be mocked to that extent -Tectone interrogates people bombastically onstream from wither one of these dramas and kinda makes the streamers he is questioning scared of like the people he is bringing live on stream -Tectone mocks Tenha (Gneshin content creator for being weird and stuff) don't know if ttenha already accepted this but oh well -Tectone keeps spinning his own narrative and main contributor of misinformation in the past of genshin. Notable ones where making the claims of Zhongli being OP at the time of his release and boosts people's "Account power" when he really wasn't I also recommend you to watch The KING of Misconceptions by the youtuber named flip. He may be a changed person now but he really did make a dent on the past and relationships of his with these content creators. Leaving a bad taste. People hating on him now are just people now remembering these main highlights of his life and misconceptions he did. So obviously the moment he slowed or 'quit' genshin, people are left with the impression of hating him

twitter in general is an awful place no matter what media you're into. theres terrible stories you could tell around a campfire about the Animal Crossing, Anime, Call of Duty, Art, Fortnite, MInecraft, Genshin, Pokemon, The list goes on. moral of the story: someone needs to step in make sure the only people using twitter are 18+. and even then it wouldn't 100% quell the problem of the people who use twitter the most being mentally ill basement dwellers with no sense morality when it comes to these things.

Genshin community is unironically really sweet. I've been playing it for 3 years and most people online are very welcoming and friendly. But as every other game it has it's "bad apples" which are most certantly are minority.

Day 1 addict here ;) I still stay by this take since the start of Genshin the community is an awesome one and the "lunatic's rage baiter or nutjobs" are the minority. Sadly.. if ya have a player base of 50m + "a small minority can easily become a few 100 000 or a mil.. . the only issue, is that most people who don’t see the skin tone thing as a problem…are people who, well, aren’t dark skinned. it just sucks because if you’re gonna make a game with regions based on real life places and cultures…why not accurately represent the people of that culture…at least with skin tone

Forgive me if I make any mistakes in writing. I think what was left to be explained in the video is that it wasn't just white people wanting greater representation in the game, but people on which the region was based, who were sad that the developers didn't take the same care in representing the characters as in Liyue, for example (which is a China-based region). I love the Sumeru characters but I think they could have taken a little more care to represent the region. I think all the hate about this is childish, but constructive criticism is important when it comes to a game that is based on real regions and populations. My point is, when you create something that's based on real people, and those people criticize the way they're portrayed, we should listen to their criticism. Sorry if I wrote something wrong, English is not my language, I just wanted to express my opinion, other than that Sumeru is one of the best and most fun regions in the game 💞

As someone who loves genshin for the gameplay, lore and character's genshin twitter is sad and pathetic plus I never liked twitter anyway. I only tried to make a twitter account to enter a contest for a Velvet Crow figure around 2016 or 17.

all in all i agree exept 2 things. the point about not bringing politics into gaming is stupid. many games have politics, "not bringing politics into games" is a frase only used when its politics you dont agree with. second, i do think there is potential critizism to make about the skin tone of people that supposed to come from africa, middle east, south asia, but 95% of the twitter community are not the people who can make that point.
