I know Geoff was looking for a room that was similar to the white room that John Lennon used in the original. The message in Imagine is as needed today as well as yesterday.
there is one thing you're forgetting..... Geoff's solo stuff is all him. When it comes to the arrangements and creative decisions over the music, it's all him. On a very rare occasion, he may ask Kathy what she thinks, and of course Ed Boyer does the final mix, but, yeah. None of the VP guys have any input.
Geoff shared a picture of this session with his patreon that showed at least 7 different vocal lines, all doubled, so I think it’s more very tightly layered harmonies than an actual synth effect. My interpretation is that he wanted to have as many voices as possible coming together, to represent the ideals of the song.
I am not attached to this song, wrong era for me. Geoff said that no one ever asked him to do this, it was all him. It is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion.
Once again, we share the same thoughts about the more "synthy" sounding part. 😃The first few times I listened to the song, I wasn't sure, if I like it. I missed the clarity we are used to by Geoff's background vocals in other songs or a lead voice in the part. When Geoff re-enters with his higher register that happened and it had me back and loving it. Meanwhile, I got used to the part and it's okay for me. But I like the beginning and the ending more than the 2nd verse. 🤗
