We homeschool our 6 year old son so I made a small geometry box to reinforce different concepts. Let's talk a little bit about what we focus on and how we teach at home.

Make triangles to compose the regular polygons to show where all the formulas can be derived just by knowing about triangles. The old technique for calculating pi involved inscribing and circumscribing polygons with more and more sides which could be computed to narrow the range of pi which was very hard back before you could look it up on the web :)

It brought me joy to see you introduce Pythagorean triples early on to your child! I recommend including a parallelogram in the geometry box to inspire linear algebra discoveries.

Fantastic! You are a good mom and teacher. Your son will absorb what you give him like a sponge.

If you have a balance or scale capable of weighing +/- 0.1 g, you can show him that the weight of the 3x3 square plus the weight of the 4x4 square = weight of the 5x5 square. Sounds like you're doing a good job of teaching him how to think. Best wishes.

Great tools to teach with. It’s better than the computer program schools are using assuming the students can teach themselves, which doesn’t work. I’m a retired shop teacher who had to deal with the students who were taught on the computer, not much was retained.

It's interesting at 1:56 in the video that your son calls regular polygon circles, as indeed they indeed approach a circle as you increase the number of sides. Maybe include some irregular hexagons, octagons, etc, to capture the essence of what makes a shape a certain type of polygon. Maybe even consider modifying the labels of the existing ones to mark them as '(regular)', as his geometrical maturity grows :)

That's brilliant, Linn! 😃 Even small blocks he could use to build stuff, things like lego (that I'm sure you can create something), also 3d shapes... You can do so much with them! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

I feel most of the public school systems in the USA are failing in their educational process. There is no room for the Childs inherent skills and interests or the rate at which it works for each child. I think homeschooling in the USA is the best option if you have the knowledge and propensity to do so. Not all do but I applaud your work with your son.

You should make him a shape-matching box, like the one this young lady uses in her video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cUbIkNUFs-4.html

I think that video is an example of a bad teacher, and a questionable parent/person. But to each his own.
