You are right it's a great song. I think you're being a bit too critical. They're not young any more so the voice isn't as strong. But it's a jazz number and the improvisation is beautiful to hear and watch. Maybe his '81 live performance with Lady Vaughan is more to your liking?
@@junior2404 The first time I heard this song was on his "Give Me the Night" album. I love that version because it's simple and pure. When a vocalist is busy with, as I said before, "vocal acrobatics", they aren't thinking about what the song is saying, they are simply trying to impress. With all due respect, it's not impressive to me. A certain amount of improv is fine, but this, to me, is over the top.
@@davidpeters203 he's just having fun. I think it's nice to see these artistes enjoying what they do. Strangely enough, I've never heard anyone complain about Whitney's vocal acrobatics. I think folks who follow them, go to their concerts knowing exactly what to expect. But, I get where you're coming from. A lot of people like the album versions of most songs.
@@junior2404 Understandable, I've been a musician and singer for 50 years, spent many years on the road. I know what I like. And while I do appreciate the talent, to me it's not necessary to embellish that much. A certain amount is fine, but don't go overboard with it. Good conversation.
This version sang by Gearge Benson is not the way I like to hear this song. Not romantic at all in my opinion. Dont like it. An American idol contestant did a much better version.
@@samuelg464 I'm 70 yrs old and I've listened to George Benson since I was in my 20's. That don't mean everything he sings is the best. Don't be so quick to put down American Idol or the Voice. That's how we find new talent. Some of them are great. When the older generations are gone they will be the ones remembered. And don't be so rude by daring me not to share my opinion Mr Samuelg464. You might control the women in your life but u certainly don't control me.
