Thought he was a cocky genius, but thinking about it, i rather take the hard truth what he thinks than PR bs that means no where close to the company's true intention.
I’m confused are you solving for city streets eventually or not? Because you said that turning isn’t comfortable with self driving. Then you said you’re going to beat Tesla to Level 5 autonomy.
he said turning isn't comfortable right now but of course they'll get to that eventually. He also said that while he wants to beat Tesla, he would still bet on them
The more detailed answer is not yet. As far as I know they are beating tesla, but Toyota and Honda newer models have self driving. The comma isn't really meant for the city yet, but if I'm honest I wouldn't want to cause their so many different things going on in the city. Testla always has to make sure your touching the steering wheel, however the comma that is fully supported you don't really need to touch the steering wheel, but you need to be paying attention. It will beep at you if your looking away from the road.
$2200 is no small chunk of money. Wanting and actually buying is very different. I have the comma2 and I'm happy with it bc it has served me well so far
Two days ago, my comma2 for the first time ever just went off to the right for exit when I was driving 75mph on the freeway. Scared the shit out of me and I had to take control and hit the brakes. I didn't know what happened but it was the biggest mistake it has ever made. I hope openpilot will learn from my mistake.
It's always great and refreshing to listen to the people like Hotz and Elon who have no social/corporate filters. I mean I am a person if you ask me "How do you do?", I would answer literally. So, of course, I like them.
I get suspicious when your talking more about the competition than your own capabilities. I like that they are not asking people that cant do due diligence for money. I like that the next self driving car might be a walking robot.
Well the competition tries a different approach. Tesla honda hyundai kia and toyota all focus on getting sensors and cameras around the car. The comm ai focuses on trying to drive more like humans. They do this by sending the driving logs to the cloud then analyzes the data and the AI adapts.
Seeing this a little after the fact. I really would like to see this integrate with A Better Route Planner For EV range and charger locations. This looks like an impressive product, and I can certainly see one going in my 2018 LEAF.
I love the vision approach Comma and Tesla are doing. It makes SDC tech so much more accessible to the average user and it's exiting to test out and use.
@@serkardis292 I use a script called "youtube video speed &seek mouse control" to watch at (usually) 2.75x. Edited my script so it just defaults there. Some slow talkers I watch even faster, people with thick accents need to be "slowed" down a bit.
i feel like george has gone explicitly out of his way to avoid driving a tesla and thus has no idea how good it is. ranking oem nav below "phone in cupholder"
yea - that’s not what he meant in that context. he was talking about like bmw’s nav, mercedes nav, etc. most people prefer phone in cupholder over those shitty oem navs.
There's a video on the Comma channel where he drives a Tesla, some months ago. Tesla's definitely didn't appear to be anywhere near perfect, and I'd say neither is Comma, but they both bring a different experience.
It looks like the rear facing camera can't look out the rear windows because of the humans in the way. That might be a limitation to consumer devices inside the car. I think unfortunately if you plan to go to the next scale, the insurance question is probably less boring and more essential. They'll stop thinking of this as an option and as a mod if enough people buy then.
yeah, surprised it doesn't just have a separate camera like any other backup cam that you put all the way in the rear windshield (maybe in addition to the current rear cam to see the blind spots).
We are miiiiiiiiles away from autonomous driving system. And until it's not fully autonomous system it will always have 1 huge problem. Moment it needs human assistance it actually causes issue by itself (its pure existence) as it introduces reaction delay (enough if a person has no hands on the wheel, which so many are trying to avoid already). This is why current assistance systems rather don't try to do things for you. They work with you and they are engaged when you fail not other way around. Very important key difference. Moment you try to reverse this you hit a wall.
George, solve the security problem with the new 2021 Toyota. I have had 2 units for 4 years. Loved them, but I cannot use the eon, comma2, or comma3, on my 2021 Sienna. Solve that problem, please!
Thanks to George and the incredible team at Comma for having the vision, insight, passion and dogged determination to get to this point. You guys seriously rock! I’ve been following your progress with great interest for a few years but have yet to get myself a system. With the release of Comma 3, the time feels right. Looking forward to joining the Comma user base. 😎
I'm so excited about this technology. I have a boring ass commute to a boring ass job every day. I at least want to sit back and listen to a podcast on my way to work while this thing does most of the driving.
Whatever you DO NOT waste your money on the comma!!! I'm sure it's just as cheap and nasty as the Comma 2 which started failing just after a year. 2kAUD down the drain 3kAUD down the drain if you buy this one. Plenty of other people with the same issue on reddit and discord. Crappy 1 year limited warranty with barely any support. Even their support page says we won't help you if they think it's something you should be able to fix yourself. Their online help they refer you to is a discord which has a similiar mindset...smh
It’s a dev-kit intended for developers? Not a consumer ready product like an iPhone. Also the C3 is a lower failure rate than the iPhone 6 now ;) C2 failure rate is around 20%, pretty bad but oh well, it’s a Android phone in a 3D printed case, can’t expect much
There is one obvious answer for George. Get hired to be lead engineer of WAYMO. He could bring cash to comma and success to waymo. He has been stalled for about a year and needs something big to happen.
I just want speed controlled cruise control not self drive because it don't work and I don't care. I am old school responsible and do prefer to control my car. Bought a 2021 rav4 that has speed control cruise control where it speeds up and slows down depending on who or what traffic does in front of me. Love that, want that on my 2 older trucks. Guess I will have to build it myself cause this guy so full of shi... I mean himself... he don't seem to get it.
Hi. How can be use at Toyota veloz. I had updated for the software. But not Toyota veloz can be choose. So cam2 can not to work. Who can suggest me how to do ? Thanks
i think that comma is already a great product and has potentially a very bright future, but George Hotz at least how he speaks to the public is about the most dislikeable, arrogant, hollow and expendable part of the company. They'd better not let him go on stage too often!
Wdym? It’s open enough to where anyone can add support for it in their car, add features, and contribute to the project. If the most important part is their self driving model, then that would only help out their competition if they open sourced it
Geo deserves N word pass Homie been staying tech world since FIRST IPHONE ... (My iphone 12 is jailbroken) all thanks to your legacy in that community I’m not a dev in anyways or form but I’m part of your rebellion :)
Given that steering requires the rider to lean, you'd presumably need to design an entirely new motorcycle that could accept commands from an auto-pilot.
How embarrassing for Tesla is it that their system costs $15,000 and landed in third place behind Comma Two and SuperCruise, both of which are SUBSTANTIALLY less expensive? I always wonder how Tesla is even legally able to call their system FULL self driving when it absolutely is not and likely won't be for several more years. And how awesome would it be to have a full-featured Comma system for the Tesla that blows FSD away and people can buy for about $2000?
Hi. How can be use at Toyota veloz. I had updated for the software. But not Toyota veloz can be choose. So cam2 can not to work. Who can suggest me how to do ? Thanks
I’ve used my Comma Three for 4 days now. Three times now, when I set my ACC in my 23 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, the speed setting was 158mph. I immediately tried reducing it. I wind up turning it off and setting it again. Each time it then set for my actual speed (about 30mph). It never took off out of control but it did concern me. Today, I’m uninstalling it and doing a fresh install. Any other ideas??
This tech looks awesome! I wonder if my Morris Garages MG HECTOR PLUS (it's Chevrolet Captiva in US, Wuling Almaz in Indonesia and Baojun 530 in China) is supported or not? I'm from India. If it's a success then this Dope take will have tremendous customer demands and support from India. Please help
this is a joke right? first what you mean "humans are better than any self driving system available, or not available, today" well never mind but aren't machines better in most things? think of production lines, warehouses, management. Its not better for all cases but its more efficient and safer overall. if self driving is truly solved it will make for much less accidents than what you mention that humans have. And as long as I have control, if I want, higher than level 2 is good. most likely the computer will save you from other drivers while without it it you would be dead in that unfortunate accident
Can you pls tell me if this work on my Audi 2022 q5 premium plus with amera lane assistance and adapted cruise control that keep the distance with other vehicle
George said that typing an address in is better than trying to speak it. LOL. Voice recognition in my Tesla is better than any mobile device I’ve ever used. Overall though I’m impressed. It just doesn’t seem like it needs to be a “Tesla vs Comma” situation.
When the comma takes over you suddenly become much more of a passenger than driver. Of course you do still have to pay attention and look for key situations that the comma doesn't like but suddenly you are simply relaxing and going along for a ride. 90% of driving is mundane speed control and lane centering. This is a huge waste of our mental resources and frankly limited time we have during the day. When the comma takes over I am free to brain storm or day dream or be more present with the other passengers. It is so relaxing and enjoyable. The experience is truly next level like the way VR was to videogames. I cannot recommend it enough and hopefully there will be a bunch of comma twos hitting eBay soon which may help get this experience to more people
