I went to Memphis in 2013. At Graceland George was interviewing Scotty at the Sirius radio station. I saw Scotty and that was the best part of that weekend.
This is a little difficult to watch with George Klein clearing his throat and Scotty Moore being so laid back and trying to remember and put into words those experiences from many years ago. But there is no doubt that Scotty played (in more ways than one) such a great role in that awesome Elvis Presley sound right from the beginning, along with Bill Black on bass and then D J Fontana on drums. When you listen to that music, of course it's Elvis' vocals that are so compelling, whether ballads or rockers, but Scotty's guitar playing stands out and is so fresh and well done that one has to wonder: where in the world did that come from?! It certainly would not have been the same without Scotty Moore and his chosen instrument, the Gibson ES-295. RIP
SCOTT WAS A FRIEND OF MINE FOR 30 plus YEARS . THAT IS MY SISTER GAIL SITTING WITH HIM IN GEORGE KLEIN'S OFFICE.SHE WAS HIS EXEC. SECRETARY FOR 35 YEARS I PURCHASED HIS RECORDING STUDIO IN NASHVILLE IN 1991, & GAIL WAS HEAD OF IT FOR 7 PLUS YEARS. SCOTT WAS AVERY GOOD QUIET UN ASSUMING MAN& .A VERY GOOD FRIEND, I HAD THE PRIVALEDGE OF KEEPING HIM COMPANY , 4 DAYS OF THE LAST TWO WEEKS OF HIS LIFE , WHILE MY NIECE CLEANED & COOKED FOR HIM. IT WAS A PLEASURE TO HAVE A FRIEND LIKE SCOTT.!!!
John Lennon was quoted, "Before Elvis, there was nothing." What jump started Elvis were his fans, primarily young teenage girls. I was one of the millions of young girls in the 50's who went to the early stage shows and bought the 45's. Without us, RockNRoll would have been nothing.
Definitely "The guitar that changed the World" as I read around 2001 or so. Boy what a class act, and a Very gifted Guitarist. See you on the other side Scotty .....
Love Scotty Moore's guitar playing, always have. And Bill Black's bass, that intro on "Baby I Don't Care" I always thought was the best intro on record. Add D J Fontana on drums. The Jordanaires on backing vocals, and when they needed piano Floyd Kramer. For me, that was the best sound in all of Elvis's music.
Elvis himself did the intro on an electric bass for "Baby I don't care" Bill was afraid of messing that up because he always played the stand up bass so Elvis said "I'll do it" Elvis was good bass player.
George went to school with elvis and was a friend of his, at the time he was a local D.J, I'm finding hard to understand why he was travelling around with a band that he wasn't in, what was he actually doing at the time? The amount of friends that hung around with them when they were touring started to increase, then they started being employed to do various made up jobs, to me it sounds like they all jumped on a gravy train and wrote books about it later to further cash in on it. It's strange how Elvis never wrote or had someone write a book for him, all we have is Sometimes accurate accounts of things that happened and a dozen other peoples own often unverified versions of event's, if the story or event involved just the person writing the book and Elvis himself then they could say just about anything as Elvis was dead before most of the Elvis books came out. Some of the books are very sugar coated and aimed solely at fans who dont want to hear anything bad, others are plain lies
The biggest mistake Elvis ever made, was parting ways, with Scotty Moore, He was a Genius, and it was solely the genius of Scotty Moore, arrangement on Hear-break Hotel, that put Elvis on the world stage, and apart from Heart-Break Hotel, the day the world took notice of Rock N Roll was the day, Rock A Round the clock, in the movie Black Board Jungle, came out, but Bill Haley, was the father of Rock n roll , as early has 1951 with Rocket 88 every one of his records from 1951 had the driving guitar, and beat, and rhythm. Their is a famous picture, of Elvis with Bill Haley, and of course Elvis would have listened to Bill Haley, as early as 1951. Some singer before 1951 had a song with a good beat, but no Guitar . Scotty Moore was treated terribly by Elvis, when he started making movies, and the only reason Scotty was asked to do the 1968 Come Back Special, was because James Burton, was univailable, but Elvis had his best music, when Scotty invented the guitar licks , just imagine what other hits, he would have had, if he had stayed true, to Scotty Moore.
No disrespect to your opinion, but Scott More was a great guitarist, no doubt, but there were better ones... The big difference of everything, always, was the incredible voice of Elvis Presley... That (that voice), yes, is something that, perhaps, will never be reproduced...!!!
"Thats allright mama" was not the first "rock´n´roll" song (if there´s any such term at all) What about Jackie Brenstons "Rocket 88" from 1951? Or Roy Browns "Good rockin´ tonight" from 1948? Elvis was perhaps the best rock´n´roll singer but certainly not the only one and definatly not the first one... In spite of what many people belive, Elvis did NOT invent rock´n´roll.
Jonny Vegas He sped up the tempo of rhythm and blues and country songs, playing them with a band of guitars and drums plus his own unique voice! That was a new sound! Listen to the hit records before then. Elvis was unique!!!!!!!
