Red West was a good friend to Elvis. I love all their stories. Sonny West could tell good stories and love hearing them all. I know Sonny wrote another book called still taking care of Business and glad he did. I wish they never wrote the first book and I think they probably wished they didn’t but still in all Rlvid loved them and they loved Elvis. They sure had some good times and now most of them are up there with their friend Elvis probably Rockin and a Rolling and have a ball. R.I.P. Elvis and his Memphis Mafia friends. Jerry is still here but most are with Elvis now.❤️🎼🎼❤️🎤🕺🎶🎶🎶

Very sad they are both gone now. Even sadder that there are fewer friends of Elvis to tell the stories.

George I grew up in Memphis 1956-1973.....I was in Elvis Unit in Germany and in 68-69 I lived next door to the Circle G Ranch. My School bus from Horn Lake elementary stopped at the gate every morning to pick up a young girl at the ranch. I used to watch you guys ride horse out there. :) Great memories GK, Thanks -Herb

George Klein had great wisdom to do these shows. He clearly states to Red at the end that now this story (or as Red said, "part of it") is on video "many years from now, young people" will be able to pull it out from the video library and there he will be telling all about it. It turns out that it's even more important than that as the entire world can easily watch it on RU-vid. I'm glad we have this footage, but sure wish we still had THEM. I agree with you both, it's really hard. I don't like the fact " money was made from the personal information about Elvis". Then on the other hand, I can see Elvis looking down, and saying " you were right Red????. Each to their own feelings, and thoughts, but reasons, behind all anger is " fear, and hurt ". Everyone, please 🙏 Tc ,and Stay safe 🙏. God bless.

I won't comment as such but will tell a story. in 1971 I collected guitar magazines. a friend called on the telephone I was out and my father took the call and wrote on the front of the magazines for me to call the friend back. I was really furious that he had written a message on the magazine. my father died in 1976 and that same magazine is one of my most cherished possessions because it has my father's handwriting on it. The message is that anger can turn anger into love!!

Elvis thought his guys were very loyal to him. To write a book about Elvis and put things in there that Elvis never wanted out there that was disrespectful. I could understand how E.P. felt. Regardless of what E.P. was doing. It was wrong. They were just pissed off about the fact , of what Vernon did. However, it was Vernon not E.P. There was financing issues obviously. They had to cut cost. I believe that there was more to it then, people was told. I just wish things would of been different. Love E.P. MUSIC. R.I.P. ELVIS. LEGEND

Out of all of the Memphis Mafia, (as well as Joe Esposito), I would be far more inclined to believe Red West and his recollections about Elvis and working for him over Marty Lacker, Lamar Fike, Sonny West, even Billy Smith. There was an authenticity about Red West when he's telling the truth. I do believe he loved Elvis like a Brother, and you can love someone as a Brother and still do what he did after he was fired. I hope he regretted them but also came to terms with what he did as well. RIP Red West

I think that you all were so caught up living on Elvis's money, that even if you saw him like he was in 1976, you wouldn't do a thing. The king of these bastards was Tom Parker, he's the #1 guy that didn't care nothing bout Elvis Presley, it was his money West & all these guys remembering him on this show can talk & act like they care NOW, but back then, they just lived in luxury with Elvis's money....except for a few people, like Dixie Locke, Barbara Hearn, June Juanico, his loving mom, & a few others in his life that actually gave a damn about the man, not his money.

I still don't know why you respect Red. Everything Red got came about because of his association with Elvis. He got his acting break with Nick Adams, who was Elvis' friend, Elvis got Red into the movies, Red has given Elvis the credit for making it possible. Just like with the song writing, how do you think he got his foot in the door, thanks again Elvis. He wasn't that of a great song writer anyway, none if his songs broke any records not like Elvis former girlfriend Linda Thompson. So that defeats your argument that it had nothing to do with Elvis. On the subject of the book, which is a very controversial subject. Everyone needs to stop and think, how do you help Elvis? How do you help someone who has a problem, who won't you let you talk to him? Someone who is addicted to something. If someone has an addiction, It does not matter if it is drugs, alcohol, food, sex. Whatever it is. Whatever it is, you cannot help them, not until they realize that they have a problem and then choose to help themselves. Now, what is an intervention? It is a way of getting to someone with a habit, an addiction and humiliating them. Yes. but how do you get Elvis's attention? How do you humiliate him? The answer is the fans. Now Elvis's lawyers called them up and offered any fee that they wanted, any figure to stop the book. Since fans argue that this is about money. Why didn't they take the deal, I mean they could have asked for any figure because Elvis wanted to stop the book from being published. Red and Sonny literally had Elvis and could have milked him just like colonel Tom Parker was doing. So here is the truth, the book was regrettably a failed intervention. You could argue that it made things worse, but who else tried, who else tried to really stop him. I don't know either Red or Sonny West personally but I do respect them For anyone who says I am wrong or that I am stupid, go ahead and feel free, I am not looking for anyone's approval here. Just one thing more, before you think you can say a thing based on how things were, just remember, you are on the outside looking in. You can't know what is in another man's mind or heart.
@jacquelineloveselvis
@jacquelineloveselvis 8 лет назад
They wrote the book out of spite. They wanted to hurt Elvis. It was only after Elvis died that Red realised the mistake they'd made. Then they changed their reasoning saying they wrote it to help him. Nasty people, considering what Elvis did for them. Elvis himself did not ask Red to stop the book, he said "You just do what you gotta do". Shame on them.

@jacquelineloveselvis
@jacquelineloveselvis 8 лет назад
+carolki13 - The fact of the matter is, the book should never have been written in the first place. Apologies or not. Considering what Elvis did for them over the years, it was shameful that they even considered writing this book. This is what started all the other vile books, especially those written by the Stanley family. They were in the wrong and they all have to live with it on their conscience, end of story.

IMHO red west wrote songs that Elvis got to no1 with and Red West also had a good voice wonder how it would have been had he sang them

I don’t think they wrote the book to help him l think it was to get back at him for the way that they where sacked as for helping him yes right it did that alright into a early grave it was done out of nastiness

Heard through the grapevine that Red and Lamar liked to get real close to each other, red would threaten anyone who mentioned it.

I don't want to see a video or to hear a word by Red West, Sonny West and David Hebler They should only be silent and think of all what they received from Elvis, above all friendship and love, Yes, they were friends too and helped him, but they ruined everything, with a book written only for revenge.

Red was a true friend to Elvis. He was a true person for even sticking up for him from the beginning. I respect him for that. Elvis, unfortunately abused that virtue.

Possibly, but Red wasn't without his own flaws. When Elvis finally had to let him go for financial reasons and because Red was a little too rough with some of the fans, he had the Colonel fire him instead of explaining it to Red himself. Feeling somewhat betrayed, Red wrote a tell-all book. There's fault on both sides.

Red West wrote successful songs for many other music artists as well, not just Elvis.

I've got my own opinion about this man there was a reason Elvis fired him Elvis was a good person do you want to just done it for no reason there was a reason I can pretty much see what and why first of all he must have knew something my opinion is he might have been costing Elvis too much money because he might have had some habits his self and that's why he pre-planned his tape recorder with Elvis because he wanted to jump the gun first and get back at him I can pretty much see there was something there was a reason Elvis would not have just fired somebody he might have cut back on the payroll or whatever but there was a reason why he let him go totally and Elvis was a man of his word and he probably would never tell why I'm like this man I think it was very dirty to what they done to the Elvis carried them for years it had to be something pretty bad and Elvis was type of person that he would have never said nothing just like I said I'm like this guy he jumped the gun because he thought somebody else might

k.m. read my other comment too.Red and Sony were fired due to the several million dollar lawsuits by his fans against Elvis.Sony and Red beat up those fans.Elvis planned to take them back.He always did.Sony and Red knew that Elvis always did make amends and always rehired the people who were fired.

@@sammy5714 They should not have written this type of book. Red told Elvis in the phone call that has been released that they never said anything bad about Elvis. That was a lie.
