I like how this bridge has a sidewalk for pedestrians. I feel like the Verrazano should have sidewalks as well.

I have been over the GW Bridge twice, both times at night. I'm off work with a neck injury now, and might not be able to go back to trucking, and that won't break my heart, but not being able to go over this bridge again during the day will. I'll be back again regardless. 😎😊💙

Owning a car in NYC sucks. High tolls in the city and in jersey, alternate side parking, RATS literally eating your engine wires in the winter. I bought a new car to get girls but all I got was headaches 0/10 wouldn't recommend 😂

Just picking again... US 46 should have been shielded up to the NJ/NY state line. According to the NJ State logs, that is where it ends. I love how overtaxed NY can't put proper route signs up. What happened to US 1 and US 9? I saw a US 9 sign AFTER the NY 9A exit, but NOTHING of US 1!
@MileageMikeTravels
@MileageMikeTravels Год назад
Yeah signage in these parts can be scarce. I have to look at Google and other places to find concurrencies because you won't find the signs on the roads themselves.
@JimAllen-Persona
@JimAllen-Persona Год назад
Yeah, I’m thinking about that now that you mention it. The furthest west reference to US 1 I’ve seen in NYC is on the Bronx River Parkway exit to the Boston Post Road.. across from the Bronx Zoo and then on the Hutch further east.
@davidmurphy3214
@davidmurphy3214 Год назад
You think NY is bad. Try western PA. Firstly. There are very few roads that are straight. Most of the time you're on one road. You come to a 3/4 way stop. As any common sense person. You continue straight. And figured it's the same road name route number. 2 3 4 miles down the road you stop at Sheetz. You ask how much further. The people answer. Go back 3 miles to the blinking light and turn left. Damnit it's the same name and route number you were following. Yes there isn't a sign route number with a turn marker either. The only solace is if someone is going that way. They have you follow until you get to the turn. And they will be happy.

Back in Nov 2011, I was going home to visit Long Island and the Verrazano Bridge was closed due to the NYC Marathon and them using it to run on so I had to pull over at a rest stop to check my Rand McNally Road Atlas to figure out another way to get there and the George Washington Bridge was the first step - $15 cash toll back then. I'm sure it's a lot more expensive now. EDIT: "Only" $16 now.
@MileageMikeTravels

Surprised it's only increased by $1 since then. Always gotta keep that Rand McNally Atlas on deck just in case.

@JimAllen-Persona

@@8avexp I remember once, a very long time ago, we didn't name bridges after people. We used names that made sense like "Interboro" to designate a road that went between Queens and Brooklyn and "Triboro" to mean a bridge that between 3 boroughs ."Queensboro" was a bridge from Queens. Idlewild was the name of an airport in the Idlewild section of the Queens. Let's not even start on the Tappan Zee - that's an entirely different argument. I'll allow the GW Bridge because that's what its name was from the start... we didn't feel the urge to tack some name on it after it was built. I'm not old enough to remember the "North Beach Airport" and I only know Idlewild from "Car 54, where are you" on re-runs. Sorry, these name changes have just been a useless annoyance. How long until they rename the Throgs Neck and Whitestone?
@8avexp
@8avexp Год назад
@@JimAllen-Persona The Holland and Lincoln Tunnels bore those names right from the start. There was some debate over the Verrazano Bridge. Some people wanted to name it the Narrows Bridge while others suggested naming it the Staten Island Bridge.

@ryanearles2024
@ryanearles2024 Год назад
Actually, they do now. There used to be a City Law that you can't film or take photos of the bridges or tunnels in NYC due to fears of terrorism (basically due to 9-11), but that has been lifted a few years ago. And since then, the signs that say "No Photos or Videos Strictly Enforced" have been removed on all the bridges and tunnels in NYC.

Literally everyone has a camera in their pocket now. Probably the best thing the smart phone ever accomplished: eliminated the harassment of photographers in NYC. You literally couldn’t take a picture of anything in that city for a decade and a half after 9/11 without being treated like a potential terrorist.
