I peeked at some auctions and found a similar pipe bowl: "Late 1700 Beehive Pipe Bowl." The image has the same appearance of folding at the base between bowl amd stem. Their image has very fine texturing that almost looks like reeds or rope, so a classic hive. Very nice!!!

The design on that clay pipe looks like an old beehive design, that originated in medieval times - they were called skeps - woven from straw to house the bees and their honey hives, and they were still used in Victorian times - do you think that's possible? Look closely, you might see some tiny bees as part of the design.

23:10 Now Mr Scottish Detectorist... Your Victorian Pennies... homework required please wait behind after the bell... Do remember the Young Head (1838-) and there were five different variants of the Young Head over a 20 year period to adjust nose, hair, size of bust etc. Then there was the Early Bun Head (1860-) which has a more youthful appearance than the Late Bun Head which was first minted in 1889. The actual 'buns' differ hugely between 1860 and 1889 portraits. Your coin is a Late Bun Head dating from 1890 and is her third 'main' Copper Coin portrait. On your coin Victoria is certainly aged more than in her 1860 portrait and has a different ('jowly') jawline.When the pennies get worn they are easy to confuse Mr Scottish Detectorist! Then of course later there was the late Old Head (aka Veiled Head or Widow Head) which appeared on coppers from 1895. So that is four (well eight actually) different portraits/ portrait variants during her lifetime just for the Coppers. There were many more different portraits of Victoria used for the Gold and Silver issues etc. Probably about equal with QEII.
@thescottishdetectorist

Hi. From Ireland.i find it interesting that George 6 head on a coin faces the same way as his father George 5 but I don’t remember hearing that Edward had any coins struck
@thescottishdetectorist
@thescottishdetectorist 11 месяцев назад
Edward apparently had proofs ready to start production and he was facing right though they weren’t produced so as a result George VI decided ti face left just to be consistent even though coins didn’t circulate

Britannia first appear in 1672 during the rain of Charles II but she’s appeared on coins in the Roman period too back in the second century 😮

It's nice to see a silver coin, for sure , but it's not every day when you find a Victorian coin with fully visible markings and features. most of them are worn almost flat and featureless. I have a few myself and they are like blank metal chips that could be used for making new coins! LOL So with a Victorian coin that still has it's features you might want to have a look at it's value, you might be surprised at what it could fetch for you!

Many thanks Oculus. You’re right, they are usually smooth and worn blank! I’ll take a look!!
