@@kahinkazarka1940 it’s just making fun of how Mob Psycho’s art style doesn’t fit the conventional anime art style. The characters also has goofy ass expressions most of the times. Ofc that doesn’t mean it’s actually badly drawn or animated. Me personally I really love the art style, it fits the anime perfectly.
It's not the only German anime dub, that's so liberal. I have to think of Chansaw man and Spy×Family. I don't know the original, but it sounds like they got a similar treatment.
I had no idea the german dub was full of so many fun moments (including a whole strudel gag amjssgjsjas) it makes me happy seeing all these different fun ways a dub can add to a show xD
German dubs are either a hit or a complete miss. I've seen (or heard, rather) lines being changed to make a scene infinitely more funny... Or cringy. There is no in between. But damn do I love the German dub of Mob Psycho.
Since you asked, the Americans say that. The reason is they believe Germans only work and leave no time for fun or jokes. This in itself is contradicting their own system, as they have a few free days, where Germans have almost thrice as many free days, and don't have to fill half their pay with tips, or are not forced to work in toxic work environments where they lose pay for the smallest infraction.
Only none germans say that tho if you know german modern germans only have humor like that we do like memes a lot maybe even to much but a lot of it translates badly.
@@Kiirabu197 why? you understood me i was lazy and to be honest my man i could care less,if it was longer maybe but you rly cry about a short comment under a short? xD
should've said "Hallo, wie gehts denn so?" (Hello, how are you?) the german version of the "Hello there" star wars scene. never liked that translation, but it would fit right in with this version of reigen and his pop culture references
This is not just confined to Reigen. In the german dub, when teru and shimazaki talk for a brief time during their battle and shimazaki says: "Except for my boss I'm the strongest esper in the world" In the original teru says: "There are people in this world with powers you couldn't even fathom" But in the german dub he says: "You are not even the strongest within a 10 Meter radius". Which I think is more savage
I think the ass Ketchum bit might have been a reference to german youtube Legend "Coldmirror" She does a lot of comedy and Parody stuff and her animations are comparable too "Charlie the unicorn" or Lamas with hats in terms of meme impact and popularity she does animation series, skit's Podcast type stuff for Anime, Harry Potter, Star Treck etcetera she's basically been tomska before tomska was tomska. In one of her older series japanoschlampen or "Japanese bitches" which is like a general anime Parody. The main character is a violent magical girl her best friend is the straight man to her insanity and they have wacky adventures in school. It's straight 2008 Internet Humor. One of the characters who later becomes the third person in their main character group is an Ash Ketchum Parody and he's called, you guessed it - Ass Ketchum. It's a long shot but they did reference Gronhk (another RU-vidr) so like who's to say.
3:39 To english viewers, when Reigen called them his replacement boobs he could've just as easily said "my two replacements for Mob" or "replacement Mobs" they knew what they were doing when they had him use the plural of the word for pug "Mobs" which is "Möbse" (and also means boobs) I like how they tried to add in jokes wherever they could. Btw the whole thing that he said to them that the subs didn't catch was "There are my two replacement boobs! I hope your fit and ready!" the last part was said in a teasing tone like sir 😂
I had to just pause every other clip to marvel at what I was seeing. The nicknames. The fourth wall breaks. The references. The VOICE DELIVERY. English Reigen put in SUCH A GOOD PERFORMANCE and here my man Pascal is making me feel ROBBED
I generally don't watch dubs but holy shit I want to watch the German one now. The voices seem better than the English dub, at least from the clips I've seen. Thanks so much for making this!! I will exclusively be calling her Tome Tomato now thanks to this lol
super happy to hear that !! Personally I rly love both dubs, it's just unfortunate that a few VAs got replaced in the english dub. And haha yes same here....Tome Tomato simply is brilliant 🍅💚
@@platypuslappy9616 I tracked down the German dub but realized it won't have your handy subtitles, so I've redownloaded duolingo to restart my German lessons now thanks to you 😂 I love how much nicknaming German Reigen does, Mobbo is also a new favorite! I'd love to hear Japanese Reigen call Tome Tometo-chan or something lol
you could try having the german dubs audio play in the background and then sync it up with the subtiled japanese version in another tab! Might be a bit of a hassle though
The subtitles are great but they don't quite do it justice. I recommend all non-german speaking viewers here do a multiple years long german immersion language course to fully appreciate this masterpiece of a dub. In fact, be born in germany next reincarnation cycle. You're welcome.
Honestly this just reminds me how hard German dubs usually go, at least the ones that I’ve seen! Best other example I can think of is Koro Sensei in assassination classroom, he just has so much personality in there, and the voice is on point! And god damn Reigen’s German voice actor was having a blast while recording all the lines- Thanks for collecting these gems!
Because he looks somewhat like Winnetou (at least, designwise), but he bastardizes it into Winnie Pooh. Or because he's telling such childish fantasy stories that don't make much sense in the real world, similar to the world of Winnie the Pooh
I'm conflicted about all these pop culture references: They work in context. Give it a more unique identity. And add some humorous twists for those rewatching it. But they'll make the German dub incredibly dated.
Yeah, if they'd at least only use the classic ones, like "Moby Dick" (even if I do think it's overused at times) or Tome's absolutely genius line "You are my only hope, Mobi-Wan!", the Loriot-reference, Godzilla, King Kong, the fourth wall breaks, stuff like that, even One Punch Man makes sense to reference, since it's from the same Mangaka that made Mob Psycho 100. But all these MCU references have the possibility (or like, actually a kinda high probability) to just age really really badly, which is unfortunate af, ngl...
@@DarthLenaPlant I completely agree with every point you made. German Reigen addresses Mob with those bantering nicknames so often, it makes him feels more frivolous and at times even meaner than the original - especially with the at times gratuitous references. The classics that have stood the test of time will probably still be recognized years later. The One Punch Man reference can't become dated (and also compliments in-universe easter eggs). And while some things from Marvel will presumably be as well known as certain things from Star wars (like Hulk getting huge and green when angered), the MCU is a franchise that has been milked dry lately, and a myriad of things within the MCU will be forgotten years from now.
I'm not a fan of this whole "But it makes it dated!" argument. Are we not allowed to show any cars anymore in movies because they could get replaced by flying ones in the future? Why should it be okay to reference "The Godfather" a movie many people now only know from references, and not Marvel a company whos comics are around for ages, where the movies are out for ages, where the franchise is activly watched and fans are all over the place even if they just like the old movies? There is a difference between some random trend only a bunch of people actually do and whole franchises. There are enough movies were teenagers hang out at the mall, noone complains that these were dated. What if people would have been so afraid to show the world how it is in past movies. "Oh no Bobby we shouldn't include a VHS tape. I know it's really populare but what if people find a better way to watch movies in the future? They will not be able to connect to this movie anymore!"
Husbando...... was the point at which I lost it dhsjds- Glad to see I'm not the only one in the sharing german dubs with subs economy (although I only do it with friends haha). most of german dubs is full of awkward sentence melodies and deliveries but sometimes... sometimes stuff like this happens haha- I watched MP100 in japanese so I appreciate this cut of the glorious references. God bless the Apfelstrudel!!
Yeah, sometimes the voice acting is kind of half hearted and they got someone who isn't really a fit for the role. Some Examples of that would be Wendy from Fairy Tail or Asia from Highschool DxD. Asia occasionally sounds very sterile when there is emotion needed and Wendy's voice Actress doesn't put a lot of passion into it, when it comes to screaming her Attacks. (aside from that however, she does the Dialogue scenes pretty well. When it comes to Highschool DxD however, then there are some more side characters in season one that have half assed voices as well.) You have to know that sometimes they just get people with little Experience. A good Example of Voice acting done right, would be the german version of son Goku from DBZ. „Tommy Morgenstern" really inherited the usual Spirit of Japanese voice Acting in his role as Son Goku. This Man passionately used his Soul and executed his role perfectly. In both fights and conversations.
YESSSS THANK YOU FOR THE COMPILATION!!!!! Your edits are so funny HAHHAHHA God I love German dub Reigen but he's also so fucking dumb HAIGDHSIJGHFDIJSDIFHH I can't BELIEVE the number of big franchise references they crammed in here HELP ME. There are also some parts that just... make my heart melt hearing him say those lines. Glad that the silly pathetic man energy still comes through in every dub hehehe
AAGHH MINTI THANK YOU 💜💜💕!!!!!! and yes all those Pop culture references are so out of nowhere it's brilliant. His voice actor really is genuinely so good! You're so right too, I'm glad we've only seen perfect casting for Reigen so far ....he needs to keep that silly pathetic guy energy (affectionately)

When it comes to dubbing Germany is actually one of the leading countries. We have some of the best voice acting quality and dub most series and movies (at least if they are somewhat popular to some degree the series that are only known in certain bubbles don't get dubs or it takes many years). Even new anime are getting dubs relatively fast for example blue lock, tomo-chan or nagatoro are receiving dubs already and are most of the time only around 3 weeks behind the original release. Though actings like Reigens are rather rare there are also a few others where in my opinion the german dub is superior eg in Bungo Stray Dogs and some scenes of Clannad and Love is War.
"A life without Mob is possible, but meaningless" is a reference to a German comedian saying "A life without (a) Pug (in german Mops so almost like Mob) is possible, but meaningless"
Pascal Breuer hat eine Hammer Stimme und hat mal wieder eine absolut schauspielerische Glanzleistung abgeliefert. Man spürt förmlich die Energie seiner Stimme im Raum! Einfach Klasse!
That's why I prefer watching films and series with German dub: I usually pretty much love them and respect the effort that most voice actors put into their work. ... And then there are Germans that criticize German dubs/voice actors for "not sounding like the original"
