danke sehr Jenny. fur mich ein ganz nutzlich video weil ich autistiche bin. ich will oft sagen dass wie dass ist, oder nicht ist. in english we say 'she is her mother's daughter (or he is his father's son)' to say that children have personality traits that identify them closely with their parents. we also have 'the apple not falling far from the tree' one, but that is often used negatively, for instance is someone is lazy or dishonest etc in a way that reminds the speaker of the bad habits of the parent.
Jenny I recently found your channel and it's pretty amazing to say the least, a treasure trove of information. Any idea on how I could transfer my passive knowledge into active? I can understand at level B2 and sometimes beyond, but my ability to express myself is much worse. Keep on making videos, you deserve way more popularity than you're given!

When you don't use a language for some time, all the words you have learned in that language become passive knowledge. Since you are concentrating more on German, the "speech center" in your brain in charge of the English language is not being trained. You can compare it to a muscle. If you don't train that muscle, it will get weak. If you want to avoid that, you need to practice English regularly. You can practice by watching a movie in English or reading a book or speaking to a friend in English or looking for a language exchange partner on tandempartners.org There are also many language schools that offer Skype lessons. I will do that myself. I have lost a lot of my Portuguese skills and I want to get back into it and so I'll be taking Portuguese classes again starting in September. I won't have to start from zero but I just have to activate that knowledge that I have acquired and the goes for you with English :)

Jenny, love your channel, but please when addressing us in English plural, Bitte sagen Sie night "guys", sondern verwenden andrere "yous". Zum beispiel "you all", "y'all" "allyall", "youse" . Wie Sie wissen, after English lost its old you system, that led to linguistic ambiguity. I don't know why the old thou, thee, ye, you system fell out of favor. at that time English was spoken only in England. Regional solutions evolved, "guys" being one of the worst. Unfortunately it evolved from the region I come from, but it still grates on my ears, is very informal and is also not inclusive. as you know the female counterpart to the male guy is gal, so one should really say "guys and gals" when addressing a mixed group, but that is really cumbersome. thanks for hearing me out.

I learned English in the United States (Michigan) and everything I say, the words I choose and the way I pronounce them corresponds to the way I learned them. People have even asked me here to stop speaking American English. If I followed all the requests here in the comment section, my English would sound totally unnatural. And I think this channel is really about German so you "guys" shouldn't concentrate too much on my English ;)
