Nice Marine Stamps collection. I have also a few and know how hard is to find them. Torpedo boat bayo marked is one I`d be proud to have in my own. Nice video, as ussual.
Thanks for your comment. The Torpedoboat cutlass is hard to come by, even here in germany. Got pretty lucky to find this one. It was sold by an elderly gentlemen who lived at the other end of germany. I had to drive 6 hours to get there and then 6 hours back. The only reasson i was the one who got his cutlass was becuase no other collector wanted to drive such a distance. Cheers, Vincent.
I have been looking forward to your very informative video and I am not disappointed - great work! I think that I have already mentioned that I have a Royal Navy cutlass 'Entermesser' 1852, also dated FW 1861. Underneath the shell is marked K.M. 1038 and the scabbard 173A. The maker was P.D. Luneschloss, Solingen. The furniture and the scabbard mounts are painted black - I think that this was common practice - please inform me if this is correct. If possible information on the unit markings and scabbard numbers.
Yes, the thick black painting was common practise with the prussian Entermesser. They did it to prevent rust. As far as i know, P.D. Lünseschloss, Solingen was the only manufacturer for the Modell 1852. The later version, the 1861, had more manufacturer. As mentioned in the video the "KM marking" was an inventory number. I dont know why some of these numbers had the "A" added behind them. Maybe it had to do with the differentiation between the inventory of the navy station of the eastsee and the navy station of the northsee? I have never read anything to explain these numbers with the A added to them. But anyway, having a prussian Entermesser with its scabbard is always a rare find. With kind regards, Vincent.
Vincent: I have a Prussian Royal Navy Cutlass....very rare here in the US.. P.D. Lünenschloß, Solingen, FW 61 on the blade, and on the Guard, K.M.1814...I have seen only one other in 45 years of collecting in the US..I think you need pictures of this one!
Yeah. I would love to see some pictures of your Cutlass. K.M. 1814 is pretty high for a royal prussian cutlass. With the FW 61 I thinks your cutlass is a Model 1852. I have one with FW 61 as well. You can see the KM 705 marking in the video. I found this one in the US as well!
I have a bayonet with the Unit marking of WK 3740. manufacture by Simson & Co SUHL. The scabbard has a marking of 2.O.R.8.51. What unit did it belong to ?
Thanks for the comment. The WK 3740 stands for the "Werft Kielt" or naval dockyard of the city of Kiel weapon nomber 3740. The scabbard belonged to the 2. Ostasiatisches-Infanterieregiment or 2. east asian infantry regiment, company no 8. weapon no. 51. The east asian infantry regiments were raised to fight in the boxer rebellion 1900/1901. Rare unit markings! Let me know if you want to sell this piece, i am looking for a scabbard for my 2.O.R. unit marked bayonet. Cheers, Vincent.
