The Black Friday thing is wrong. It's called that because that is the one day of the year that a business goes from being in a deficit (red) to being "in the black" (on the positive side of the ledger) due to the Christmas sales. Has nothing to do with violence or beating people up for a toy. Purely a financial statement. I remember when "Cyber Monday" came about. Most offices are closed the day after Thanksgiving (on a Thursday), and back then, homes had worse internet connection than their offices did. So people would make a list, wait until they got to work on the following Monday, and log on to buy online from work. Of course now, people have high-speed internet all over the world, but Amazon and others still promote "Cyber Monday" as well as "Black Friday."

@@benllewellyn297 Interesting my mother worked for the largest department store in Texas (Joske's) and her boss, the president of the store, told her that it was called that because around that time (the beginning of the Christmas season) was when the store finally made money (went into the black). She said all the stores called that, well before Black Friday sales.

All our water goes through waste treatment plants so what he said about garbage disposals in this country isn't accurate.
@timothygreer188
@timothygreer188 13 дней назад
but the solid waste from the garbage disposals makes the process 3x more expensive. Plus it clogs the wastewater pipes with "fatbergs" which is when the grease and solids from food collect on the sides of the pipes and form large blobs. These will often break off like icebergs and get stuck together creating major blockages.

@@timothygreer188 We, and the British, have bigger problems than "fatbergs" Wipebergs are worse. Huge clogs in sewer lines caused by "flushable" wipes after using the toilet Sure, they're flushable, but they don't dissolve in water like toilet paper does
@lennybuttz2162
@lennybuttz2162 6 дней назад
Yes, what he said is absolutely true, because of the food, paper and wipes along with other things that are flushed down toilets and sent through disposals our water treatment is much more intense and complicated.
@cxa340
@cxa340 5 дней назад
@@timothygreer188 Not true - organic waste that goes through a garbage disposal simply becomes food for the critters that are used to break down other solid waste in the water treatment process. The use of garbage disposals to macerate this organic waste does not increase the cost of water treatment, as it provides a natural food for the critters necessary to break down the other organic solids in brown water that have to be treated. The reason most US homes have garbage disposals is the fact that the plumbing systems in most US cities have been designed to be able to accept organic matter without clogging. Fats poured into the system happen regardless of a disposal unit or not, and are always detrimental to the system, however we see fatbergs and fat clogs more common in Europe than we do the US where home deep frying is less common. Most countries outside the US cannot even accept toilet paper going through the system, which is why most stalls outside the US include a trash can for used toilet paper to be disposed of in where it then ends up in landfills creating the possibility of bacterial contamination, however plumbing systems in the US have no issue processing toilet paper as part of the black water supply.

This video has lots of wrong info, Black Friday is the retail term for when the company goes from the Red to the Black on it's books. It's when the company makes money, not because of fights.
@lorrainea.9023
@lorrainea.9023 15 дней назад
Came here to say this. SO many videos about black Friday claim it's called that because of fights. I worked department store retail from 1982 - 2014 and those BF fight situations didn't even start happening until into the 2000's and they were mostly at places selling electronics. Retail does a huge % of their annual volume between BF and Xmas, at some point during this period moving from the "red" (unprofitable) to the "black" (profitable), so BF was the kickoff date to seeing profits (it's been called BF since at least the 50's so these videos need to stop it with the misinformation!).

The lack of garbage disposals in Europe has to do with their sewer system. Europe was developed quite a while ago, where as the US developed in recent history, so Europe's sewer system predates modern plumbing and the two do not mesh well. It's why certain parts of Europe don't let you flush toilet paper, the old sewer systems weren't made for it.

The sewer system in Germany is far too large, as the pipes were replaced in the 70s due to population growth. However, as water consumption fell due to measures, the pipes are now too large for the amount of water. This is why the pipes have to be flushed regularly, as the concentration causes damage. Food would make this even worse.

It’s always interesting when someone not living in the USA, (or hasn’t spent a lot of time around the entire country) make videos about “USA culture”, as if they’re an authority on the subject.😂 Lots of people have already corrected the incorrect “Black Friday/cyber Monday” information, so I won’t bother with that. But as someone who came here from another country nearly 20 years ago, I have a slightly different perspective on a few things… *Spray Cheese:* I love it. 😂 It’s not an AMAZING cheese, but it’s certainly a fun cheese! My picnic basket is not complete on the 4th of July, without a bottle of “squeeze cheese” and a box of ritz crackers in it!! *Garbage disposals:* are SO common in the USA (I’ve literally never lived in any house or apartment that doesn’t have one) because almost all of the living infrastructure (like municipal plumbing) is brand new and was built specifically to accommodate things like the disposal. Whereas most countries have plumbing systems that significantly predate the garbage disposal-so it isn’t really compatible with it. It’s not a “more difficult process” to separate the food from the water at treatment centers, because they were literally designed with the process in mind. As for the “less environmentally friendly” part, it’s true that it takes more water to properly use standard disposals-but newer systems have taken this into consideration and now use very little water to run (and future designs will eventually use none one day). There are also different disposal types/systems… For example, I have a big farm-so with my system, the water from the kitchen sinks in the housing buildings is automatically separated from the food and goes to the fields/gardens/plants/flowers/etc. and the food that gets “ground up” in the disposals, goes directly to our compost sector. All the farms in this area have this same setup with their garbage disposals. *Perfect Teeth:* Yeah we really like nice teeth here. Depending on where in the country you live-this can actually be crazy inexpensive to achieve. A lot of people who live in the southern border states simply go to Mexico for dental work, because you can get amazing work done, at great facilities, for ridiculously little money. I actually just barely had this type of work done there!😂 I recently had a front tooth get broken and it cost about $350 to fix it (that’s including the gas to drive there and food/shopping for the day). *Free refills:* yes, waiters usually refill your drink automatically, without even asking. It’s seen as a staple of “great service” to anticipate what your customers want/need, without them even having to say anything to you. It’s literally one of the main things that will earn a waiter really good tips. If they bring you a fresh drink right before you get up to leave, many of them will even put it in a “to go” cup for you to take with you, so it doesn’t go to waste (this is another thing that gets waiters great tips and helps ensure repeat business to the restaurant). *Flags:* yep, we love them. I myself have about a dozen all over my property (including a full sized one, that goes up the flagpole every morning at sunrise and comes down every evening, to be safely folded/stored away until the next day). Everyone has their own reason for it, but for me, it’s the biggest symbol of the lifetime worth of work I have put into coming here, earning my full citizenship and being given the freedom/opportunity to make a wonderful life for myself here (that I wouldn’t have been able to safely do back in my old country) -so I can now peacefully live my own little version of the “American Dream”. 😊❤

I live in a rural area and we have a vegetable garden, so I prefer to use a compost bucket (a steel bucket for your countertop with a filtered lid to prevent odors) where I put all of our compostable vegetable and fruit scraps, stale bread, egg shells, empty toilet paper rolls, etc., and regularly add them to my compost heap along with grass clippings and used straw from my chicken coop, so time and the earthworms can turn them into rich black earth for my garden. 3:20 Chris just to be clear, the spray cheese does not come (at least Ive never seen it) in an aerosol spray can like shown in the video. Its more like a cool whip can dispenser. The contents is under pressure from some type of gas and you push the trigger to one side to get the cheese out. Its doesnt "spray" out like hair spray or some type of cleaner. 7:18 I don't think that statement is accurate. The term "Black Friday" came about because most companies were in "The Red" meaning they were not making any profits, up until "Black Friday" The amount of sales that happen on that day and beyond until the end of the year is what put those businesses into "The Black" which means they were actually making money at that point. It lasted only 2 months before exploding and killing the police officer manning the light. However, in 1914, Lester Wire of Cleveland, Ohio, invented the electric traffic light that had 2 colors and a buzzer. Okay, about the lawyers: I work in the personal injury industry and there are reasons why the US has so many lawyers. It’s not because we just want to sue people. It has to do with how insurance works in the US. Say you get hit by another vehicle while driving and the other driver is at fault. If you get injured (this can include both physical and psychological injuries) , the other driver’s insurance is supposed to cover the cost of any medical care related to these injuries. But because the goal of insurance companies is to make money, they will try to give you the smallest amount of money possible and you have to do all the negotiating with the insurance company. If you get a personal injury lawyer, they do all the negotiating for you and understand the law to get the maximum amount of settlement to cover the cost of your injuries. Since personal lawyers get paid using a percentage of the settlement, they have incentive to get you the most money possible. This means they also only take cases they are very likely to win. Well over 90% of these cases are settled out of court and never go to trial. Now let’s say that you get hit by a truck related to a business such as a FedEx truck or you are injured at a business (things I have seen: stab wound from loose metal inside a restaurant booth, hit by a man on a forklift trying to move a vending machine, deck collapse, boulder rolled off a landscaping truck and onto a woman’s car) then you will be dealing with business insurance. This type of insurance is even harder to deal with so a lawyer is basically necessary. It’s also a myth that people in the US sue for unreasonable things. Whiplash is real and can cause permanent brain injury. We often see head trauma, spinal issues, and knee injuries. Another big factor is related to psychological trauma. We see people who cannot get back in a car. They can become fearful, avoid leaving their house at all and become moody, lash out at their family, or withdraw from the world. In children, it’s really important to get them psychological help because if left untreated it can cause major problems later. All to say, while it sucks that the US insurance system is so complicated that people need lawyers, it is currently how things work, so the lawyers are necessary. Maybe one day the insurance industry will be more tightly regulated and we won’t need them anymore.

We have a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink. It grinds up food scraps and sends them down the water drain pipe that would otherwise go into the trash making it smell really bad. We have recycling and regular trash pick up, but separating your trash for the recycling is not mandatory. I personally stopped doing it when I learned locally they do not recycle what is collected. They sell the metal for scrap and put the rest into the land fill with the other garbage. Now I just throw everything into the trash.

that's just a badly managed system ... where i am we used to have more self separation bins - paper , glass, metal , plastic = now we have a larger bin for the "commingled items that are mostly mechanically separated so paper plastic and metals go in that bin though we still have a separate glass bin -- well and a yard/garden debris bin that now is welcome to have most food scraps as it goes for composting This is a large issue world wide however that a large percentage of the items placed in the "Recycle" bin end up in the land fill due to sorting issues and contamination problems ... China used to take a lot of that mixed material and sort it even by hand when the Chinese government made it illegal to send non sorted it went to some of the Asian island countries which in recient times have all cracked down on the practice because 80% ended up burned or sent to land fill because of contamination

For Garbage Disposals - In my family, when we're done eating, we still scrape large food scraps, bones, fat cut off meat into the garbage can. But when washing plates, we don't need to worry that a few kernels of corn or other bits of food will clog the drain. They collect in the garbage disposal then when it gets turned on, the food is chewed up small enough to easily pass with water. Our sewage treatment plants are already filtering out digested food (💩), little bits of undigested food aren't really a big deal.

You never want to be the person getting sued, but the good thing is that businesses and individuals are much more careful about safety issues. Most people do not take safety for granted. If you have an unfenced swimming pool and someone wanders in and drowns you can be sued for having "an attractive nusisance." And the trespasser, will probably win. So you put up a fence anticipating the problem, and your insurance company rewards you by giving you a lower rate. Also the US has very good handicapped access for buildings, street crossings, public transportation. I noticed this is definitely an issue that needs more attention in European countries. Also you can order water in the US without being charged. Tap water is safe and with a little ice is refreshing. Restaurants do not charge for the water and you are not forced to buy bottled water. That can save a lot on your bill.

It's an older house with a cast iron sink (you can see the exact same one in the movie "A Christmas Story", for anyone familiar with it) and adding one would just be too much hassle. I just keep the garbage bin under the sink for any scraps that can't be composted or thrown into the yard for the local wildlife.

Garbage Disposals are part of the drain system in your kitchen sink. It’s solely for food scrapes from food prep or cleaning of plates after dinner before they’re washed. You run the water and turn on the disposal which grinds the food into your waste water outlet. Communities that do trash separation are for paper/plastics/etc. but not garbage which is food. BTW, not everyone has a disposal and their food waste goes out with the rest of the trash.

3:53 in my city (San Francisco), like many but not all cities in the US, any food scraps that go down the sink are turned to compost via large, quite efficient anaerobic digesters. It’s actually one of the most efficient ways to compost. The problem comes in with fats, which may can congeal inside the wastewater system instead of flowing to the water treatment plant. Over time it can cause blockages and other problems. So, it’s good to put things like apple cores and orange peels down the garbage disposal in the sink, but putting anything too fatty down the sink is a bad idea. Some cities have banned garbage disposals because they tend to encourage people to put fatty foods into the waste system.

I'm an American lawyer. The US is very litigious. And private people sue each other all the time. The threat of being sued is very real here. Garbage disposals are in almost every house, condo, and apartment. They are everywhere. But whether or not they are really useful depends on the quality of your plumbing. Straight, white teeth are a whole industry here. Almost everyone gets braces as a kid and almost every adult does some sort of teeth whitening treatment, whether it's over the counter stuff they buy at the store or professional whitening done by their dentist. I lived in Greece for a year as an exchange student. European countries don't use clothes dryers for the most part. They air dry everything on drying racks. It wasn't too strange for me, since I only use my dryer for socks, underwear, and towels and air dry everything else. But I think for many Americans it's strange.

Garbage disposals…I think are found in newer construction homes. I live in a rural area and have our own well for water separated by a distance from our own septic tank which collects human waste-our food scraps are collected and disposed of in a backyard compost bin for later decomposition and enriching of soil additives for gardening usually after a year of breakdown..other mulch material is added to breakdown the waste and “turned quite frequently to prevent mold build up and heat. I have never had a garbage disposal and see no need for one.

Black Friday became a thing because in the USA we have Thanksgiving that is always the 4th Thursday of November. It is a MAJOR Family Holiday in the USA, but MOST people take the Thanksgiving Weekend off, including that FRIDAY, being only 4 or 5 weeks (depending on how the 4th Thursday lines up in the calendar) before Christmas, and the number of who take that day off from work, it became a huge thing for retail store to begin major Christmas sales on that day. It is said that an economics professional can gage what the spending for the season will be from the proceeds of that single day. For the Average American it just marks the time of year to avoid the malls.

Chris - regarding white teeth - my dentist's staff suggested that I could make my teeth a bit whiter if I also brushed them using Bicarbonate of Soda ("baking soda") and Hydrogen Peroxide. I haven't done whiteness comparisons in the three or so years I've been doing this, but I note that my teeth aren't "yellowing" as much when I do this. I don't do this every day, but rather every *other* day, and I always use toothpaste when I do, to get rid of the salty taste It might be worth trying. Many issues with legal proceedings, like a "small claims" suit ($15K or less), you can sue someone without a lawyer. For example, when a guy hit a friend's car, he was kind enough to let them know, but wouldn't pay them to get it fixed. So they sued in small claims and won. My friend didn't ever see the money, though. You can sue anyone, but if they don't have the money to pay you, there's not much more you can do to get your money. Except it might show up on a background check for employment or for purchasing a firearm (not good). Yes, lawyer advertise everywhere. Usually for car accidents & workplace incidents (slip and fall). In fact, one in Florida is so well known, most Americans know who "Morgan & Morgan" is. Those types of lawyers are sometimes called "ambulance chasers" so they can get the victim in the ambulance to hire them to represent them in court for a car accident.

Black Friday is so named NOT because of the fighting over goods. That came later. It got its name because it was one day the most people had off to go shopping for Christmas, and retailers would find that, even if they'd lost money all year long, this ONE DAY would be enough to move them from being "in the red" to being "in the black" (accounting terminology for being at a loss to at a profit) for the year. Thus, for retailers, it was often when they finally became profitable (in the black) for the first time each year. It is not nearly as crazy as it used to be before internet shopping got normalized.

8:51 not all places give free refills in the United States, and not all beverages are refillable for free. If you go to a restaurant and you order coffee you pay for the coffee and they’ll come by and top you off ever so often to keep your coffee “warm“ unless you tell them you don’t want anymore. Some places that offer fountain drinks will let you refill your cup but they don’t come around and ask you “would you like your Dr Pepper refilled?“ You would have to ask “can I get a refill?” and they would say yes or no, but if it’s yes you would get up and go get it yourself. But some sit down restaurants do not offer free refills in the United States. You pay for each drink individually. So it does vary- some places do have free refills but a lot of them do not. So don’t just assume that’s gonna happen because it won’t necessarily😊.
