As a Nurse I appreciate the drive through pharmacy (pick up your prescription when it’s ready) because it’s easier for people with small children and people with mobility problems. Prescriptions are usually sent to pharmacy electronically by your Dr and then you drive through (if available) to pick it up.

You're absolutely correct. Some may go to Walgreens for in-store pickup, but even though drive through takes longer (in my experience in the north), at least someone doesn't have to wait 45 minutes standing up when their mobility, or the person helping them, is not conducive to a line.

People in large cities like New York walk all the time. Because they have excellent Public Transportation, and everything major is centralized for the most part in Manhattan. But in places like Los Angeles where I live… not so much. WE DRIVE EVERYWHERE! 😂 We are kind of conditioned that way from an early age. Everything is so spread out; and our Public Transportation SUCKS!!! 🤮🤮🤮 We do get a bit lazy because of this. If I need to go someplace a block away that I could easily walk to… I’ll drive! And if I wanted to go somewhere a little farther… I would definitely take my car. Because while there are buses, and in some places Subways. What would take 20mins round trip in a car is a 2hr trip by Public Transportation. 😝

It's also that many people don't want to bother with having to find a place to park, parking, shutting the car off, getting out and doing what you have to do, getting back to your car, starting it back up, and safely pulling out of the parking space and getting back on your way. For most people it takes too long, even if it's more of a psychological thing than anything else.

@wandapease-gi8yo
@wandapease-gi8yo Месяц назад
Personally I ask for my drink without ice, or for self service I don’t put ice in. The drinks are kept in their cold lockers so they are cold. Plus you get more drink! Drive through pharmacies are great because the Doctor e-mails the prescription to the pharmacy and they then e-mail or text you when you can pick it up. Driving to the nearest pharmacy for me is over a mile away. If it were not inside the big grocery store parking would be a problem,particularly if you have your kids or your dog in the car with you. Being big and healthy and spry enough to walk the two miles to pick up your monthly migraine medications with no problem. However the big thing for Americans is the Time that walk takes that you could be using to knock out two other errands. Most of us would consider that walk a waste of time. It isn’t a hike in the big woods where walking is entertainment.

To clarify: The old meme that you can get drunk in Vegas and wake up married is just a myth. Whether it's a drive through chapel, a full church, a courthouse, or someone's back yard, there's not going to be a wedding without a marriage license which must be procured beforehand at a county office by filling out the paperwork while you are sober and coherent. So drive through chapels are not to convenience people who are driving down the street and decide on the spur of the moment to get married. They are just a gimmick, the same as the dozens of little chapels where you can be married by ministers who are Elvis Presley impersonators.

It's not that we don't like to walk in America, it's just that compared to Europe everything in America is a lot more spread out and there's a lot more people. On average Americans travel 42 miles (67.6 km) a day, whether that is from going to work, the store or anything else we need to get to. Walking really isn't feasible when where you work is a 30-40 minute drive. Putting in a drive through ATM machine keeps traffic down inside the bank and is a lot quicker than if everyone is trying to actually enter the bank.

Yeah Vegas is known as a city of vice and neon lights (gambling, drinking and I believe prostitution is legal there). The "drive thru" wedding chapels are part of that culture. Typically its seen as a trashy kind of wedding, one to have when eloping, or when both parties are drunk thus its a mistake. This comes from anyone being allowed to marry there with no documents needed. Plenty of Hollywood movies and shows depict this.

2:34 We need prescriptions for medication as well. However, unlike German prescriptions ours are usually sent electronically to the pharmacy of choice. The drive through part is just a convenience. I use it exclusively and also love having the pharmacy open 7 days a week. My prescriptions are also on what is called "auto-refill" up to the number of times the doctor has indicated. For instance, I have to have blood works done every six months so the doctor sets the auto-refill for that time frame. I receive a text when my prescriptions are ready to be picked up and I pay any co-pays on-line. I pull into the drive-in lane, tell them my name and birthday, sign that I received the medication.......and drive off. When I am lucky it takes all of five minutes.

I'm so jealous of this convenience. I tried to get my doctor to fax my prescription to the pharmacy and they refuse to do it. I have to laugh at the fact that I'm pushing for such old technology - "what do we even have fax machines for!?" and I really don't understand why I'm driving my car to my doctor for a prescription that I'm on for the rest of my life, and then getting the piece of paper, and then driving it to the pharmacy and hoping they have the medicine at that moment.

Spray cheese is not great cheese, but it is super-convenient for some applications. It developed in the 1960s as a way to make easy snacks with a box of crackers, as opposed to having to slice blocks up into smaller portions. There have been 4 types that I know of; American, which is a mild inoffensive yellow cheese, Cheddar, Cheddar and bacon, which is kind of smoky, and Swiss. The swiss type hasn't been available where I live for a very long time, but it tasted vaguely like Emmental, but was a flavored American cheese base.

The can/bottle insulated sleeve... used on glasses too. The reason we put ice in all our drinks is because we are a LOT farther south than most of Europe. Southern California, transported to Europe, would be south of the Mediterranean Sea in the desert(s) of North Africa. Which also explains a lot of the not walking around. Even S. California has ocean breezes that bring high humidity rather than much cooling. People do some walking, in the early morning and early evening when the heat of the day is much lower. Which is part of why we have drive through everything (including funeral homes!). Temperatures and humidity in the fly-over (interior) States can also be high. Our cars are almost universally air conditioned. Dual wheels are frequently just for looks (as well as jacking up the height of the pick up truck), but even city folk might have them if they tow a very large travel trailer known as a 5th wheel... the tongue of the trailer puts a LOT of weight on the coupler (which is like a semi-tracker rig in the bed of the truck). Or masons who haul concrete blocks or bricks, etc... so they are useful for some. There are a LOT of independent contractors who build or remodel homes or do landscaping.

Look up the cheese section at a local Wegmans. Spray cheese is fun for a variety of “low end” uses, and dogs love it for their pills and other doggie needs. Dual wheels on a truck. “Dualies” - absolutely functional. Not to say, everyone with them is always using them for those capabilities all the time. But, they may need that capability on occasion. Why? Higher bed loads and to prevent trailer sway. We tow all kinds of things, from boats to horses, to heavy equipment to our fun cars (non daily drivers). Provides stability. Most states and locales ABSOLUTELY have annual inspections. And if you live in certain states or locales, crowded areas, there is even an emissions inspection.

They would go to public 24 hour gyms to use the showers or bathroom and they saved up a TON of money by not paying rent and they would be actively working and going to their job while doing this. The US is probably the only countries I have ever heard of where people become homeless on purpose to game the system so that should tell you something about how generous it is. The problem is the drug addicts and mentally ill. Back in the day we used to be able to lock them up in mental institutions until they got better and were released or were kept indefinitely if they were a danger to themselves or others. Nowadays its much harder to do that due to changes in legislation so you have all sorts of dangerous people mixed in the the homeless population. The problem with those types is you cannot help those who refuse to help themselves you could try but it would just be a waste of effort and money.

AND the pandemic sent many people who were living on the poverty line into the streets. I was 62 and had never been either homeless OR unemployed. I slept next to people with a five week old newborn on one side, and an elderly person hooked up to an iv and oxygen. Okay, there ARE mentally ill people out there....and I would respctfully add that it certainly tends to make one FEEL insane. I was lucky, only nine months. Little food, no medication (insulin) half of every day had to be used up finding a toilet or sink that we were permitted to use to clean up. At times; it is an extreme wave of environmental change....like all businesses shutting down for weeks/months at a time; and landlords and parking police made a killing. In the wake of the pandemic they filed through at night to leave a $100 ticket for NOT having a place to sleep. (Later forgave those and decided it was a really sucky thing to do to their citizens) Anyway, I would initially have agreed that most people who were out there WANTED to be...but what I ACTUALLY LIVED was so very much different. Remember to be humble.

Just shutting down the country and not having a plan of what to do will cause people on that line to be homeless. But overtime, as everything calmed down, that was somewhat remedied. Now that everything has gone back to normal, for the most part, the ratio of homeless refusing help has risen back up.

Spray oil and spray butter are mostly used for easily lubricating baking dishes and pans when you’re cooking. Most people don’t regularly spray these things directly on their food, although it is perfectly safe to do so. It can be handy for adding a very light coating of oil to vegetables for roasting, for example, rather than completely saturating them and getting oil all over your hands. Also, dual wheel trucks (usually referred to as “duallies”) are specifically designed for hauling very heavy trailers (like horse trailers or heavy equipment, for example) and are rarely seen outside of commercial and agricultural settings. I generally like Felicia’s videos, but, frankly, she often gets things wrong and perpetuates as many bogus stereotypes as she dispels.
@michael-1680
@michael-1680 20 дней назад
Chris, the dual wheels are only in the back, and they are there strictly to increase the load-carrying capacity of the truck. Which may be useful if you are carrying very heavy things like loads of gravel or concrete, or towing a very heavy trailer. HOWEVER, it seems that lately, it has become stylish among some people to own a truck like this, even though they have no need for one. Particularly true among people who have too much money and too little sense.

Most ATMs are accessible via cars here in the USA. The wall-mounted pencil sharpener does have issues from time to time most often caused by people not emptying out the shavings. Also, like anything with moving parts, they will eventually wear out. The spray oil does make it quick & easy to oil a cupcake pan if you are not going to be using liners as you can direct where the oil goes & you can also control how much oil is added to a pan. I don't remember having spray cheese, but I imagine it can be convenient as it is shelf-stable while still in the can. The truck she pictured has a read dual axle. I don't know the mechanics of how it works but it is useful if you have a heavy load either in the bed of the truck or being hauled behind in a trailer.

Hello Chris. It is nice to see another German interested in the US, and the cultural differences, of which there are many. And you seem to be a very pleasant fellow as well! I have watched a lot of Felicia (Feli) and her channel, often thru others that are reacting to hers. While she is very articulate and eager, she really has not embraced the American way to the extent one would expect after so many years in the US. She questions things that are quite obvious if you really take the time to try it or find out what is going on. She tends to think that the way things are in Ohio, and the products that she sees there, is similar elsewhere in the US, which is often not the case. You could almost look at the US as 50 different countries. The cheese spray is just a soft cheese spread out of a can to make it easier to apply to crackers, and other such things for snacks. We also do have available at most food stores cheese spread that is refrigerated, but not quite like hard cheese, but soft enough to use a small knife to spread into your crackers or such. This small item is hardly anything worth mentioning as something so unique and different. It would have been a lot better for her to have mentioned that this is not only the land of opportunity, but the land of many choices as well! Since you seem to be new at looking at the differences between Germany and the US, here are a few key points to keep in mind, and that these preminate throughout most of the US culture: (1) The car is KING here in the US. Other than very small countries, it has the highest car to capita ratio in the world, AND the highest raw count of total cars as well! (2) Other than big cities (that have a high density of population), which are mainly on the East coast, there is little or no public transportation. While the car is 'king' just about everywhere, in the high density cities it is hard and very expensive to park and garage a car, so the norm is to not have a car and use public transportation. Large US cities that are not so dense, like out West, such as Los Angeles (12-14M), Phoenix (5M), Seattle (4M), the car is how most people get about, and tend to avoid going into the inner core city due to parking issues (both availability and cost). In the San Francisco metro area (7.5M), the city of San Francisco itself (808,000) is much like an Eastern US city, with good public transportation, but in all the other surrounding suburbs the car is king again, and only some limited train service channeling up from the southern suburbs up to San Fran, into the city. Part of this reason for very limited public transportation is that the distances become quite large leaving the core city of San Francisco. You cannot grasp the distance difference that you are accustomed t until you come over here and try to get around! To give you an example, I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and my daughter lives in the Los Angeles greater area, California, and it is 400 miles (680 Km), and it takes 5.5-7 hours, depending on how often you stop. My brother lives in Houston, Texas, and just driving across Texas to get to Houston, entering from New Mexico, it is 750 miles (1,200 KM)! Keep in mind that driving from the very south of Germany to its very north is just 602 miles (970 Km). (3) This is a country of options, choices, and variety, which is manifested in almost everything, from world leading businesses to products that you can buy. So, for almost anything, there are vast choices, like cars, trucks, food products, types of businesses, terrain, climates, and of course drive-thru's and so on! If you go to Starbucks, you can order 10-15 (or more) different types of coffee! Choice is real important over here. (4) Since the car is king, and the country is so vast, cars are larger here than elsewhere int he world, and trucks are very common as well. People own pickup trucks to haul large items, but it does not mean that they haul large objects everyday or every time they use the truck, which is something that Feli fails to grasp. People fairly often move homes, or buy furniture, or help others, or have a business that demands space in which to put equipment, all with their trucks. There are a lot of small, private businesses here, such as landscape/gardening, tree service, pool service (which you have nearly none of in your country), home repair, and so on. The big double wheeled trucks are for hauling BIG items, and not just a boat, which any mid sized pick up truck could handle. But big things like an RV trailer, or horses or cattle, or a 5th wheeler (look this one up). The dual wheeled pickup trucks are not that common since they are rather expensive when buying, and more expensive to run as well. You have to have a definite need to own a dual wheeled truck! Good luck with your channel! Keep an open mind when looking at and when discussing the cultural differences!

Thanks for explaining the American car culture to Chris. I agree with you. Owning and driving a car/truck is not just a privilege but incredibly freeing. I love that I can pick up and go at anytime and anywhere. While I sometimes wish that more metropolitan areas had better and cleaner rail systems it's not something that is efficient for most of the country. Even though we have passenger trains is it comprehensive enough? And what percentage of Americans use them? It's better that we use the rail for more commercial and military purposes. But then again as you said America is a land of choices Thanks.

Dually Trucks are helpful for when you haul or tow large heavy loads. The extra wheel distributes the weight of whatever you're hauling or towing. And if you're towing something, it also helps with the stability of the entire rig (pulling vehicle and trailer). There's a trailer type called a 5th-Wheel where the hitch point is actually like a Semi-Trailer in the bed of the pick-up, directly in between the wheel wells, which of course is directly over the axle and that gives added support to that trailer load. There was one time when I was following a fellow work buddy that was pulling a core drilling trailer behind a single wheeled ¾ ton pick-up and when they sped up to pass a vehicle on the Interstate, the rig got out of control, and they almost flipped it. This was a time in which a Dually pick-up would have been very useful.

Pencil sharpeners are usually only found in primary/elementary schools. Back in the 1960s/1970s, many elementary schools had what was known as the ITBS (Iowa test of basic skills). The tests were taken in pencil, because the computers at the time could only read lead from a number two pencil. It was necessary that your pencil was sharp, and the dark oval you made on the paper was legible for the computer to read.

Spray cheese is akin to cheese whiz. Some European countries do have cheese whiz from what I have gathered in many reaction videos. Essentially it is a cheese sauce, but not as reduced, so thicker than a traditional sauce, but thin enough to be more of a paste. You can make it simply by melting cheese and adding milk until you reach your desired consistency. This can remove some of the potency of the cheese, so you will find to counter this issue, some companies will add salt to enhance the flavor. Many Europeans are terrified from reading American ingredients, and so are many Americans. All products are required by the government to display the ingredients. To battle recipes being stolen, the ingredients will be listed scientifically. So rather than listing a base ingredient, imagine getting the scientific breakdown of garlic. More common than not you'll see the preservatives and dyes listed in a scientific style. Many of the preservatives are salts. There are some concerns with some of the dyes used that are banned in European countries, and if this poses to be a concern, do the research. Not all American snacks are based on mind blowing flavor, and if you go in with this expectation you will be very disappointed. Many snacks like spray cheese are mainly for convenience. If you seal something in a vacuum, much like canning, or pressurize it where oxygen cannot get to it, it can be preserved for a very long time. Basically to say that spray cheese is mediocre, but if you are traveling, or working, it's easier to bring along a spray can and crackers than it is to carry around a refrigerator...lol. Spray oil is incredibly convenient for oiling baking pans. Great reaction, thank you for sharing.

It's about 51% cheese or cheese product because in the U.S. it has to contain a certain amount in order to use cheese in the name and advertising. As to the "beater" cars probably around 1/2 of them are probably running on expired tags because they *won't* pass inspection. Chris, for reference in the winter it's common to spread salt on the roads to melt the snow. We are heavily dependent on personal automobiles in the US. All that salt tends to rust out car bodies if not washed off regularly. It's much worse in the northern states that get a lot more snow. More southern states don't typically have that problem and we are now seeing other substances get used on the roads that don't result in rusting like beet juice. It works in a similar way to melt the ice and snow.

Those wall pencil sharpeners have been around for many decades. Everywhere I lived. Old fashioned because they have electronic pencil now.

I think most people use spray oil and/or butter to spray in a pot to keep food from sticking to the pot when cooking. I've only seen spray cheese used on snacks like crackers. I don't think people use it to make a sandwich. Some people might, but I've never seen it myself. People begging for money usually do so at busy intersections. I suppose there is a chance that they might try to steal from you, but there are usually a lot of people around. Most thieves will not commit a crime with dozens of people nearby.

13:58 this is true. However, the cars still have to meet all Federal, state, and local safety requirements. It is just that it is the responsibility of the driver to make sure the car is in compliance. If a Police Officer sees that you are missing a required mirror, tail light, etc. they can (and probably will) pull you over and either issue you a warning or a citation (Ticket). These can be pretty expensive.

Some states don't have auto inspections at all. There's at least 13-15 states that don't.

I live in Texas. Annual Car inspections are still required in some counties. In my county the inspection is usually $25. Interestingly, my car is now over 25 years old so an emissions test is no longer required, only a safety check so the price is only $7.

The car inspections are different from state to state. Some have it and some don't. Ohio and Florida don't have an inspection, but in Pennsylvania we do.
