My German shepherd Gabby saved my kids life from a wild dog looked like a wild wolf or coyote, she chased it down and protected the family. German Shepherd best family and guard dog ever.
Gabby is the best dog I have ever had, we love her so much. Also I been getting a lot of questions about the gloves.👇 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KK2NQG2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=keepingitdutc-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B07KK2NQG2&linkId=ec0d45f46b175f97a10884cbb697a2cd
My neighbor when I was a kid had a black shepherd that I still revere today, over 40 years later. He saved my bacon one day against a pack of 4 strays. I was on crutches with a broken ankle. 2 large dogs his size and 2 a little smaller. In seconds 2 were dead, one had a broken leg and one ran from the fight immediately. This is the same dog my neighbor's small grandchildren climbed on. Rest in peace to my buddy, Hardrock. Have loved shepherds ever since.
German Shepherds are amazing dogs. We also live out in the country but it isn't like it used to be. We got a shepherd (male) to help protect our kiddos when they are outside playing. He is absolutely the best protector ever. In the 4 years we've had him, he has chased 3 intruders away. He goes everywhere the kids go and will absolutely keep my kids safe. He is worth his weight in gold for sure. Great video.
"I don't have the time to get the camera I need to go get the kids" Amazing father who would rather save their kids then get content for youtube, also congrats on your doggie, shes amazing
My family have had 4 German Shepherd for past 11years. My first German shepherd was pure loyal & 100% protective when it comes to me. He passed away on June 2019. Best dog ever. I love him
Suburb dweller here: German Shepherds are so loving and devoted. The pups definitely need training, consistency, and rules, but you get back so much. Fuzzy friend for life. Plus they keep the solicitors away!
When you were kneeling and praising Gabby, loved the way she looked over at the camera a bit modestly, so sweet! I have a male GSD so I know how absolutely wonderful and intuitive they are.
What a good girl she is! Gotta get Gabby a couple of big buddies for her safety, too. It’s nice to see someone that would give up a good video opportunity and actually tale action 👍🏻.
Just a suggestion, I would get a second German Shepherd puppy now so that it can learn from Gabby. That way you always have a well trained, healthy Shepard protecting your family and property.
Yes i agree have had younger dogs learn everything off older dogs but you should get a male for breeding purposes a mother dog gets even more protective of property i am a fan of german shepards but would love to have a belgian as thay are the smartest of all
@@KeepingItDutch instead of another German Shepard you should get a Belgian Malinois they are very similar but the Belgian is more athletic quicker and the preferred dog for most police department s and military.both are good dogs
Well done Gabby, and dad. Those are great animals. Intelligent, Loyal, Capable Friends. The story isn't at all surprising to me. There are so many accounts of German Shepherds doing great deeds for their family. It is great to hear another. On a personal note - I owe my life to a German Shepherd. I like dogs, but there's a special place in my heart and mind for German Shepherds that no other dog will ever occupy. Oh, they're also beautiful to look at. The expressions they make with their faces are just classic.
We lived on 23 acres when I was a child and had 2 shepherds. They were the BEST family dogs ever! No one ever got close to me or my brother with them around. Much love to Gabby! ❤❤
Some folks think the Belgian Malinois are the best dogs for protection but I agree with you...I've had a German Shepherd and I know how loyal they are...When I was 11 yo my dad passed and my older brother gave ours away because we had moved into a small apartment in town... My dog had never been there before. He was 20 miles away on a farm where my brother took him and he escaped and found us...LOL Best dog EVER!
Thank God for dogs and Gabby. Maybe you need to get a second German Shepherd so they can be at two places at once, as well as team up on predators. A place that big can handle it.
Yeah good to have a gun too because wild canines will rip her apart, they will even run away if you just raise your arm like a gun they will take off. Any shepherd is great, my shepherd/collie is my service dog but her herding drive is always on so I am actually try to alert us in different ways, smart pups.
@@analarson2920 I can definitely relate to that! My border collie, who is also my service dog, has always had issues with herding even when she's on the job. She is working on it though, and it only happens once in a while. What ways do you have her alert? Just curious. I just do touches/paws.
@@denalitheservicek9888 okay, sorry story time. She just turned 2 years old and got her at age 3 mos, because she is 1/2 Aussie shepherd like her parents she can body slam you, so we toned that down because even just at 50lbs she is like a bomb when she hits you, she was meant to move all farm animals including cows. She definitely has both traits from both breeds. Anyway, every day we do physical therapy, she views it as play but it is training for everything, we use mostly kong toys as they are soft especially the frisbees so she has learned to use things multiple ways and commands multiple ways. If she senses my fatigue she will either stop playing and go down and refuse to cooperate or just come up and stare, you know that collie/shepherd stare that as an owner will make you laugh but you know they mean business. She will also whimper and not move until I respond or she will even jump me or bump me but in a more gentle way and be in my face licking, we use the kisses instead of the nips or I would be bruised. So it is up to me to pay attention or you can imagine where I end up with a good bump from her, kind of defeats my purpose in using her to help with my therapy. She will also paw me with one paw or just grab my legs with both paws. So she has figured out what she learned and how to communicate with me, does not always work but it really is her call and I figuring it out since dogs work with body language. If I am sick and going to do something she will stop me, at age 3 months she was with me for 1 week and jumped out of the back seat while still connected to the straps so she hung her self from the harness, of course, I caught her and was so mad because now I had to stay in the car with her being uncooperative with me and just a pup. I had to send someone else in for my meds and it was just a training run to get used to places, turns out I was blowing a fever and had no clue, by the time I was home I was nearly passing out, so she just new to it all but that was her natural response to me. They are very sensitive to motion and sound so they get to know you fast, the question is as we humans being the other end of the service team are we willing to listen and figure it out or are they just being silly or bossy, which they are bred for with herding, but they are very loyal and very kind too. My dh put it best if the behavior persists and does not make sense then try to see what is going on with the your health at that time, you may find out a whole lot about your dog and what is being missed. Then work with what your dog offers you, so if it is a whimper because the dog senses you need attention and quiet then sit and do that, it is good therapy anyway, by working with what they offer they gain confidence and then you can shut off and turn on that behavior and use it in the way that is best for you, just be really positive. We do use touch, kiss, paws, and we also do deep pressure, so she has decided on her own to climb up and put pressure on a stomach ailment which then went away, so her herding allows her to assess me, the problem is her assessing the world especially the family, so short leashing her when she is a pain in my behind or putting her to work with picking things up is primal for her. I also use the head harness when she is all over the place, it is the easiest tool we figured out to help her use her immense skills and focus more on me. I use kikopup and Pam's dog Academy for positive reminders in training, all free on youtube and they are great with the experience and tips and they are available for more training online. I have also been rescuing dogs for decades and she is my 3rd SD, the only one though that I take beyond the home, the others were mostly staying at home since my kids were younger they were my gophers and such. I actually bought her from a local farmer so I saw her parents and their behaviors as I was nervous using this breed as an SD, mostly because of my limitations, she has been great and taught me and the family a lot. She gets plenty of exercise inside and outside as she is super active but can be a couch potato. Good luck and praying it all goes well for you.
@@analarson2920 Thanks, I might work on some of those things with my next prospect. My SD is no longer in training so going to stick to what she knows for now. I was a little confused with one thing you said, so she doesn't listen when alerting? Kinda confused on that, if I'm hearing it right then you could be kicked out of a public area for that.
I too love this breed! And I totally agree with them being a great protector and loyal. Mine is now 8 1/2 yrs. and the bond we share just keeps getting stronger. Mine is also a female. I love how you openly express how much you love your dog. You're one proud papa! 😉 Great job Gabby! ❤
I have a female shepard and she is by far the best dog I have ever seen in my life. My dog goes everywhere with me and I absolutely lo:e this dog, she protects me and our home and I would absolutely lay my life on the line for her and I sincerely believe she knows it. German Shepherds are truly amazing animals.
That's right, German shepherd dog are the best when it comes protecting kids and family. They are intelligent, smart and sweet and with a bonus of human personality as well. That's why we always had German shepherd for our family. We have 3 German shepherd dogs now, Nala, Max(Maxine) and Mufa(Mufasa) and this are our 5th in count total all sine we start having German shepherd into our family. Our 1st Simba and 2nd Bruno died years ago while my husband still on military air-force, and he always have them when his overseas. Your Gabby are always hero into your family when it comes a protector. Best guard dog ever. Thanks for sharing a great story about it.
Excellent dog we got wolf from where I come from please get Gaby a spike collar, wolfs go for the neck first. My dogs in the mountain had them and it save them from bad bites. She will protect the kids and the colar gives her extra protection. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Excellent advice from your followers Dutch but especially heed the spiked collar suggestion for Gabby. A 2-3in wide spiked collar saved my dogs life when attacked by a pack of dogs/coyotes....without it & his vest he didn't stand a chance as he still got pretty chewed up 😥😥😥 Another piece of advice for Gabby's protection is to get her a doggy body vest like Police dogs wear when she will be outside and your are not home to be her backup 😉👍😁🐕🐕 I swear by both of these doggy accessories!
I was home alone one night and two men were trying to break into our home. My German Shepherd heard them in the driveway, so she alerted me and then she scared them off bc she was so ferocious growling and snapping at them. These dogs will protect you at all costs..best dogs ever.
I have a three and a half year old female she's a good dog but not really aggressive she loves people. She doesn't present a threatening appearance. Although she is protective in her own way.
My parents bred German Shepherds when I was growing up. They are such an amazing breed. I have a Shepherd and love her so much! I foster for a lab rescue and have labs also. I will always have atleast one German Shepherd. Gabby is a gorgeous girl ❤❤
I would highly reccomend getting Gabby protection training. She obviously already has the drive. She's such a gorgeous dog. So glad she was there that day to protect you beautiful kids.
I have Belgium malinois , shes a great dog. Had 12 pups two went for navy training for special forces. Two went to local cops, one is going for missing persons and the other one for drug detection. Either Belgium or German Shepherd great working dogs. She chases the coyotes away.
@@karenrn6173 I love my Dutchie she is very loyal and still thinks she belongs in my lap. Black mask and orange tiger striped undercoat with long brindle overcoat and she is blowing that now and has to be brushed a lot 🤷♂️🤯😖
@@brendastrandrigdon6201 Same with my BM. Both breeds are loyal want to be lap dogs even with their weight, work hard and protect their masters. Enjoy your doggie baby.
Wish I could afford one...but I did rescue a sable collie decades ago and he was hands down the most loyal, intelligent, and protective dog I have ever known.
My mother had a GS named Magic. He lived to about 18-19 years. We absolutely loved him. And we are very partial to them. The only thing about them is they are high maintenance! That undercoat sheds so much. But he was so sweet.
@@KeepingItDutch I'm a new subscriber. And i TURNED notifications on i am very proud to be apart of this channel and Gabby is a blessing may God bless and protect your beautiful FAMILY.
I have a German Shepherd great dog. He is my second one first one died of kidney failure. I love her markings beautiful dog. I got mine because of peeping toms in my neighborhood.
I love this story 😭😭 please give Gabby a big kiss from me all the way from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪. I’m getting a new German Shepherd puppy on Sunday and I can’t wait 😍. My father always had German Shepherds when we were grown up so I know just how intelligent and loyal to breeders 🥲. My dog passed away in March he was a Staffordshire bull terrier, and I swear it left me heartbroken 💔 he was like my child , he was 16 years+ so I have to keep reminding myself that we gave him the best life. Our house isn’t the same without a dog and now I’m ready to welcome and love my new German Shepherd puppy on Sunday 🥰
God bless Gabby, german shepherds are truly awesome! We've had two. I can confirm every kind word you said about them, they are loyal, brave, and strong, indeed.
I just put my best friend down the day after Thanksgiving 2020. It wrenches my heart out to have to think about her while writing this, but she was just like Gabby except all white. She was a badass and she fell in love with me from the minute we brought her home from GS Recue of Northern California. She would lay down upstairs with her ears to the floor so that she could hear whatever I was doing. She weighed in at between 85 -90 lbs. God I miss her terribly. I've seen a lot during Viet Nam and lost a lot of friends, but that pain doesn't even come close to what her absence brings. She had hip dysplasia that took her away in less than a year. . . . . gotta go. German Shepherds were God's first response to Man's best friend . . . . . . not wives ! ! ! !
German Shepards are the best because they aren’t just a home protector. They’re the smartest, funny, best friends you’ll ever have! That’s why I love my 2 Shepards
I love German Shepherd Dogs. If I ever moved out to the country that is the very first thing I would get. What a great family member. Gabby’s such a good dog! She deserves a hamburger! 🍔 I’ve never owned a GSD but our family had a Doberman for a while. But for living in the country I’d definitely pick a GSD over a Doberman. They are so smart and can learn to do so many things. They can hear and smell better than we can. They’ll know before we do if some stranger is creeping around. Only advice (and this is just what I’ve heard, not from direct experience), is get her a spiked collar. In case she ever gets into a fight, that will protect her. When dogs/wolves/coyotes fight each other, they go for the neck.
I agree, German shepherds are the best dogs in the world. They are the protector of children. Our shepherd died defending our children from a pit bull at the age of 13, he won the fight but had internal injuries that couldn’t be fixed. He was surrounded by 13 loved one as he passed away. He was the most amazing dog we have ever owned. R.I.P. Diesel
I GREW UP WITH A HALF WOLF / HALF GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG NAMED RUSTY AND HE WAS MY PAL AS A KID. HE ALWAYS KEPT OUR FAMILY SAFE AND WAS VERY WELL TRAINED AND SMART. BUMMER WE HAD TO SEE HIM PASS !! SAD. BUT WE REALLY ENJOYED RUSTY AS HE WAS SO AWESOME !! HE'D LAY HIS HEAD ON ME AS I LAY ON THE FLOOR !! COOL.
We had 2 alaskin timber wolfs and they went thru training as well they weighed over 180lbs each and they protected us as well they were great dogs. The city got a tip we had wolves and we had to move or have them put down ..we moved. Lol. But they were awesome!
Brenda Strand Rigdon why do you think Dawn Keener was peeing in someone’s Cheerios just because she was sharing about her wolf dogs? She didn’t say anything negative about the German Shepherds or anything else. Did I miss something or did you misunderstand what she was saying? I don’t think anyone was trying to say anything negative. I happen to be a huge fan of wolves and German Shepherds. I hope there’s no hard feelings!
@@robhouck3034 thanks ...i was by no means being mean to anyone. I sure hope they didnt take it bad. I thought they was saying the peeing thing about the city telling me to put them to sleep or move. Anyway have a great day.
Hey, my dear, a German Shepherd was your dog in Saar, and you had her picture in your wallet and that is the first time I saw your weakness and your immense tenderness in your ey s, I will never forget it. You won my heart then.
God bless the fam and Gabby. For the size of property you have a dog like her is a must. A dog like Gabby can cover a lot of ground in cases like this and especially if you keep live stock. I enjoyed the content and hope nothing but best for you guys
@@daremebros2541 dude, stray dogs stand no chance against a gsd. My gsd can fend off up to 10 strays, and can easily defeat strays in a 6v1. It literally is capable of killing stray dogs within a few minutes
I have a Black 50/50 mix Black Lab/ Golden Retriever, weighs like 90lbs. Except for his close dog friends, he hates other dogs, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, woodchucks, ect. All I have to do is yell protect me and you'd swear he turned into a grizzly bear, He's nuts and I never trained him to do that. Loves every human like crazy though, thank God ! lol SMASHED.
I had a malamute mix that I got from the pound. She was taken from her previous owner twice because they didn't take care of her and used her for breeding the second time they had gotten friends to get her from the pound and they tied her up with swing chain that actually grew into her neck. She was my absolute protector no one could get near my home without her chasing them off. I was in a verbally abusive relationship and he learned quickly not to raise his voice to me if she was inside. she destroyed the back door trying to get in to protect me one time. She was never trained to do it but she immediately bonded to me and felt she had to protect me with her life. I miss her so much
@@jemmasmom1, Very sorry to hear about the relationship stuff, absolutely no need or justification for that behavior. Hope it's better now ? I'll never understand how or why people treat dogs the way they do, makes me sick. I'm happy that you found her and were able to take care of each other. There really is something special about dogs and when they leave us, it's the worst feeling ever. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a new buddy now ?
@@augustreil I got out of that relationship years ago thankfully. It makes me sick that people can look at an animal and want to use them like that. She made beautiful pups but it wasn't worth her health what so ever. I wish I could have another dog but where I live we aren't allowed to have dogs. We have a cat but its just not the same.
Gabby is doing what she was bred to do protect her home protect her territory and to protect her family there is no better dog than a German Shepherd as far as protection Maybe you should keep one of her puppies so he can learn from her two for the price of one you can't go wrong with that this way if she gets into a situation that she may not be able to get out of at least she has a backup pupster to help her out in the meantime just keep loving and praising her you are so lucky you got a good dog
You are so correct sir. I have a German Shepherd. He does the same exact thing as Gabby. His name is River and he is a 1 1/2 yrs old. He is by far the best dog I've ever had. He is very protective and he has protected our Grandkids from a weirdo. I absolutely adore him.
God Bless Gabby, and you and you're family. We have a female German Shepherd as well she is a Wonderful Freind, and I know my wife is safe when she is out with her. When I was growing up, we had Dobermans. They saved my mothers life from a home intruder. 10 years ago, I had a Chow/Akita; he was incredibly smart and brave. He saved my life one night when some drug addict broke into my house in the middle of the night. I slept through the whole thing, but there was blood on the doors, and they were on the run because the doors were left wide open and the gate was left open. It was nice to see that blood on the door jams lol and to know that my best friend had my back that night. I don't know how I slept through all of that probably was a good thing that I did.
Love those GSD! We've had many large dogs through the years on the farm, but by far THE smartest, most obedient and best all around family guard dog was Fritz our German shepherd. He's still missed by our family!
Me too! So athletic--wish I had had the time to train her for agility competitions. She would RUN UP the trunk of an oak tree chasing a squirrel, could clear the 5ft gate on a chain link fence with ease, and was just a great dog for my son who was 10 when we adopted her from the shelter. Beautiful pitch black coat. Great mix of GSD protection and lab goofiness.
My girl Ava is black lab/ blk GSD but looks almost entirely GSD and yeah the intelligence, love, and goofiness is AMAZING. I got her at 10 wks old, shes 16 wks now and hasnt spent more than an hour or 2 not with me and what an amazing bond, my girl fer sure.
I agree with you 100% German Shepherds are by far the most loyal and fearless friend you could ever have I lost my best friend june 25 2019 and me and my family still cant get over her being gone .
Thats an awesome dog when i was younger we had a Beagle named peanut she dod pretty much the same thing for me as we lived in the country on a hobby farm and i was walking home from the bus stop one day and dad seen a big silver timber wolf following me from the bus he was on the porch watching me walk home and out of nowhere peanut came running down the rod full speed barking and would not leave my side till we got home and dad told me what happened sadly though that year she passed away from cancer and we got a new dog that I still have named jade and she is a purebred weimaraner dog and I went to let her out one morning and there was the same wolf standing in my front yard and she went crazy intill I seen it we never left the porch and dad came out with the gun and killed it i was scared shirtless but im thankful to have had my dogs be amazing protectors it’s something i will never forget and i can understand how scared ur kids were and am happy u have an amazing dog like gabby ❤️
You need a Dutch Shepherd to keep the flock safe along with Gabby. Mine is a long haired Dutchie and she is very protective and brave that's why the armed forces use them. They are tough, fast, nosey and a cuddle bunnies too.
Yes German shepherds are amazing I have an eight year old black and red German Shepherd ,Aries, and I just got another beautiful young boy pup, Philo.. he is following my dogs lead all the way. I have only had him a week and he is already proving to be an amazing little dog. Gsd are awesome
We love All Dog Breeds Right now we have an American Staffordshire Pit Bull and Shepherd mix! Super Loyal, Protective & Vigilant Dog!! Bless Your Gal Gabby!! Regards Geti
I owned a beige coat german sheppard(CoCo) years ago. RIP. U was out with her in a park just running, walking and wrestling with her in the snow. When we were going back to the vehicle I noticed I didn't have the truck keys or my ID. I looked at CoCo and said, "We'll we aren't going anywhere without our keys. So as I walked with her back to the VAST area we were out playing I was trying to follow our tracks(almost impossible) there were thousands. I notice CoCo had her snout to the ground and she was following our scent so I just followed her. She led me right back to "THE EXACT" spot where my keys and ID were. She put her snout under the snow and pushed up the keys and ID. They were both buried. I was beyond amazed! I had NEVER trained her to do no such thing! CoCo was truly an amazing german sheppard dog. We never had to worry about anyone breaking in the house either.
My son says you get one good dog in your life. Ours was a German shepherd. Our boy would sleep walk and Lady would run in, wake me, chase our son, and stayed with him until we caught up to him and got him back in the house. She was the best dog ever and we're looking for another. She passed from cancer and we still miss her.
So has Gabby gotten her steaks yet? I had a part German shepherd dog when I was a kid. That dog knew things about people that we didn't. One smart puppy. I've learned to trust my dogs. Two different dogs years apart same warning response. Gabby I don't think she mind if there was a little bacon to go with the steaks. Glad everyone is safe.
