It took quite a while, but I finally found a video that shows how the delay can be used in a proper lead/solo setting (and not stupid over the top delay stuff that is hardly ever used in a practical sense). Subscribed! :)

I’m new to playing the guitar. When you play that soft sustain lead are you only using delay? That sound is amazing

Hi and thank u for watching and for ur kind words - so appreciated. Yeah, that guitar tone I use in the video is jus tthe guitar straight into a tube amp with a little delay and reverb - that is it. You can get that huge sound with just a splash of delay and reverb. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons - lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more lessons and content coming soon. Dave - what guitar style pick up configuration is the best for lead tones - especially like your killer outro!!!? can i get it with a strat? single coils? HH? HSS? thanks
@EpicGuitarInstruction
@EpicGuitarInstruction Год назад
Hi Mike - as far as pickups and pickup configuration its a very personal choice. It all depends on what sounds you are going after and what sounds best to your ears. That being said as far as my choices - I like using both a warm and throaty neck pickup, as well as a hot humbucker pickup. So I prefer like a neck pickup or a pickup that is splitable in the neck position and a humbucker in the bridge position. That seems to work best for me. In the outro of that video I was playing through the bridge humbucker which is a pretty hot PRS pickup. But in the longer version of that solo I switch to the neck pickup. I do that often when soloing I switch between the bridge and neck pickups. So like on a strat I like an HSS config as you have the option of a humbucker as well as single coils. You can get a good lead tone from a strat for sure in fact most guitars - again a lot depends on the sounds that you like. So I suggest playing thru as many guitars and pickups and configs as you can get your hands on to see which u like best - hope that helps - let me know if you have any follow up questions. And thank u so much for watching this video and for ur kind words - really appreciated. Some people describe analog delay as a little more darker than digital delay, cool stuff, it's a science for sure 😉 this trade was far more primitive 100 years ago when compared to now, if you were to resurrect those musicians that lived between 1900 & 1930 they would look at you and say your a magician 😉
