I must be the only person who suffers anxiety with prompts! I never feel like my pages are balanced or cohesive. I spend hours finding elements and rarely feel happy with the outcome. Thank you for sharing your beautiful journals with me! ❤

Ah a fellow perfectionist 🤗 I totally feel your angst! And I also suggest investing in Brushos, watercolours, alcohol inks & Distress oxide sprays & breaking out of the drive for perfection & going random. Some of my favourite pieces have been totally random creations, usually when I’ve been trying to control uncontrollable mediums. I also recommend trying exercises that are designed to bring an element of the uncontrolled into your art. Barbara does a couple, like making a master board without overthinking, turning it over & cutting it into random sizes. Another exercise to try is making 3 different types of pages - one black & white, one a coloured pattern & another whatever you like but make sure it’s very different to the other two. Then you turn all 3 over together, cut them into different sized pieces at random, mix them up & create new pages using elements from all 3 pages. Then use that as a base for collages. It takes a bit to get used to, but remember “it’s only paper”. I hope you find happy outcomes as you learn to let go a bit. Another thing to do is just to walk away from your piece & come back a few days later. If you’re like me, you get so caught up in details that you can’t see the big picture & don’t realise how good what you’ve created actually is. And other people don’t see the imperfections that we do, they just see the whole thing 😊

Those are all good suggestions, Allison. Thank you. Yes, I’m very critical of my own art and have definitely looked at something years later and wondered why I thought it was so awful at the time I created it. Letting go of “control” is hard, but I’m trying!

I remember seeing you work in nearly all of these journals! At the time you were getting the best book covers from your local Goodwill. It's fun to see those again. I still enjoy working with prompts because they stretch my creative process. I also love the life journaling as I always imagine that someday my grandkids will read them and I want them to know who I was. On the other hand, they may say that "Grandma was nuts!" 😂

I think you want your books to last. You put so much love into them. It's OK to show them some more love now with binding them. Ten years from now it will not matter if you did it in 2020 or 2023, but it will matter if the book is falling apart.

The green book with the bird on it - you should scan them and put them in your shop. It is fun to see how your style has changed and how you have grown. I don't like mod podge either. I have had projects ruined because they stuck together. Keep up the great work and inspiration.

The third journal you showed us with the purple spine. If you used elastic cords, you can untie it and re-tie to make it tighter. Or replace the cords if that doesn’t work.

This is just my opinion and though, but I don't think you should change anything about the journals (responding to 19:49), because they are a timestamp and document to where you were in your artistry at that time. You've learned so much from these journals, and they have inspired so many as you played in them. I remember so well when you played in these journals. :) Much love!!

Hey Barbara Thanks to show us the evolution of your beautifull art. All is so lovely. Yessss it's a very good advice to put the date on our creation. It's so interessant years after to see the difference. I am a "little" bit sad because I began junk journal during the first confinement in France, art jurnal too, and few month later, I throught out, a lot of my "creation ". I thought it was not nice, it was like baby collage, Now I regret not to have keep it, because even if it was not as nice as an artiste , it was my creation done with my "cœur ". Funny you mentioned Mr. Sunshine... I haven't read the book yet (Even thought I'm usually a HUGE #BookWorm... 🤓) But this time I gave the other medium a chance. Lmao... Anyhow, when You mentioned Mr. Sunshine back then, I think we didn't have Netflix for some weird reason (?!) Later on I tried to watch the series and wasn't really excited. I stopped at the end of the first episode. For some reason, about a month ago, Netflix offered me to watch it again, and this time I fell in love with it... 😁 !!! Maybe at the time I was too tired & not concentrated who knows?! Anyway, I thought of you & smiled to myself like an idiot... 😊 !!! Lol...

I love these videos! So much inspiration. I need to watch them again and take notes. :D I really love the second to last and the last journals. And, these favourite swatches are fab! How did you make thet envelope with several envelope 'pockets' inside and the envelop flap on the outside? Hope you understan what I mean... :D I think it was in one of the first journals you showed us, in this video. I also love the butterfly cutout middle spread. I'm so making one of these. I think I still have a butterfly napkin somewhere, just for that. :) I needed this joy of creating video today! So, thank you. :)
