PS5 player here. For anyone struggling with the scrap/store duplication, what worked for me: first, hit scrap (square) and notice the very short delay in showing the scrap y/n dialog. This will be your timer: you’ll need to press store (circle) at the same moment this dialog comes up. I use my index finger for square and my middle finger for circle. Press square, then quickly press and hold circle. If only the scrap dialog shows up, you’re too slow. If only the store dialog shows up, you’re too fast. Practice the timing using this feedback and you’ll be able to duplicate flawlessly.
The only way I could do it with a PS5 controller is by quick sliding my right thumb from the square to the O button. The timing of doing this way is almost perfect every time.
03:31 Something to add here. If you play in german its different. You have to name your gun like the first word and you have to start with a capital letter. So you have to name your gun "Du" because the Book is called "Du bist S.P.E.C.I.A.L." Green eggs and ham.
No wonder the Ghoul in the the TV show is so OP... Chem withdrawal... Starvation (from being buried)... Old world knowledge... Yep... This exploit is now canon.

Was level 16. Inventory full of quest items and keys and stuff you couldn’t drop. Used a plain 10mm. Have to use lowercase y. Have to have 1 steel and 1 wood in inventory, along with parts for mod- not a mod itself. Finally worked.
It's been 2 years since my last playthrough. Just started my 4th playthrough a couple of days ago and it felt like coming home. FO4 is so fun and it was a good idea for me to wait for the next gen update. Playing FO4 at 60 FPS finally was amazing.
@@ThwipThwipBoom But still the base game? The update is sat in my steam and there's no way I'm going to allow it to break game changing mods like Sim Settlements.
If I cba I'd link some pics of my starlight drive. It's a manufacturing hub with a working cinema screen with pool area where the radioactive drums are. Laser cannons that have a seat on and settlers man. One shot on anything inc Deathclaws. Large settlement raids mod had over 50 Supermutants attack it. Ash piles. Good fight though.
If you install mods that make containers only contain loot that would usually in everyday life, one that turns ammo way down to where you only should shoot when it’s urgent and turn it into a foggy zombie filled wasteland it gets really fun. Turned mine into somewhat of a Day z esk Game.
Ok so this finally worked for me. Was having an issue where it would change to the correct book, but the mod options would all show blank not allowing me to attach anything to complete it. What finally worked for me was selecting the very first mod option it landed on after hitting the scrap option. So excited! Thanks so much!
Also if you are on survival don't forget to have max weight when waiting for the 6 days you'll get a 4th debuff over encumbered -2 agility and -2 endurance
Some important things about doing this: 1. once you turn survival mode OFF, it's gone forever (can never be re-enabled) 2. factoring in just hunger/thirst/sleep, that's 16/17/20/15/20/14/19 at level 1 3. gathering all the chems at level 1 isn't realistically sane just to abuse this Basically, this boils down to two strategies: A) enjoying 16/17/20/15/20/14/19 right away B) settling for all 10s and making long term preparations for perfect stats So, I would only recommend strategy B if you've already recently beaten the game. Otherwise it just gets too nuts for beginner players to stress themselves out over this in my opinion.
So does this not work if you get do part A right at the start, then play for a while on survival to stock up on drugs, and try to do a second round? Because that's pretty much what I did. Got all my stats really high at the start, but now that I have all the addictions and I'm starving/dehydrated again the book won't let me raise stats any further even though a few of my stats are currently below 10.
@@LuciusSicarius I'm also redoing my special book thing, this time with all the chems and what not.. and i think the addictions do NOT count toward raising the special limit. however, the day tripper, dirty wastelander, daddy-o, fury, and vim captains blend all seem to temporarily lower it. (also the hallucigen water can give -7 per if you collect them all, also DON'T FORGET PARTY BOY RANK 2 for 2 extra int when using dirty wastelander)
Yeah, having the same issue, guess you have to do the glitch all at once and not split it up or maybe you cant level up which is not realistic since you have to complete at least 1 quest to get wolfgang to sell you calmex and Daddy O. @LuciusSicarius
@@angelhr79 I did it again yesterday all at once. I started with the survival debuffs and all the addictions and raised them as high as I could. However, four of my stats wouldn't go any higher even though they were still below 10. But then when I overencumbered myself or took a drug/alcohol to temporarily lower them I was able to use the book to raise them again. Not sure what the issue was because when I gave up my stats were 5, 10, 8, 8, 8, 3, 8. Still pretty good. They are all sitting at around 20 and my character was very overpowered once I got rid of the debuffs. Was a fun experiment and doubt I'll ever do it again, but would be interesting to see if someone figures it out. Maybe some of the addictions simply don't work for the purposes of tricking the SPECIAL book?
@angelhr79 I am level 1 and have gotten all chems needed from Diamond City. Dirty Wastelander is sold by Vadim and it looks like Vimm is not accessible to level 1 toons except by console command. It took a total of 5 in-game months for Solomon to pop the Daddy O; about 4 for Calmex. Becky Fallon only had 1 Fury, but this proves she can proc a rarer chem. The Colonial has Dirty's too, but you'll likely be forced into an unwanted quest if you go up there; I just reloaded when it did to me. My route was Doc Sun, Solomon, Myrna, Becky Fallon and then Vadim; but only until I got 13 Dirty's. I start at 8 am and complete a circuit every 25 in-game minutes. This maximizes your time. After each circuit, sit and wait for 2 days at the seats in front of Solomon. Rerun circuit. Wait. Rerun. Wait. You get the idea. Only go back to Sanctuary to drop off chems and pick up gold to buy with (dupe the gold bars, don't scrap them, then dupe the lesser gold (10) bar. On my SeXbox it took around 6 -8 hours to get the chems; but I only have singles of some. Now, it's time to constantly reload and reset Survival until ALL of these chems get me addicted! God's willing, I'll be flexing 20's soon!
For those having trouble doing the scrap/modify step on PC. Use an object that can evenly distribute the weight of a button press on both buttons. I used a marker wide enought that can be sentered in the middle of both keys and then pressed in on the other end of the marker. Made it so much easier to make this step repeateable. As for the scrap/store part, the gap between key hits is so narrow that I don't think its doable. I managed to get both windows to show up at the same time but one of them would close pretty much right away.
Can you help me understand this please. I've done all up to storing my book in the workshop. But how does this work? If I destroy it AND store in the workshop again how do I use it to boost a stat??
@shawnsather8037 if you done all the steps correctly, upon scraping and storing at same time simply retrieve it from work shop and drop it on the ground and pick it back up, rinse and repeat
Battlepope I play on a PS5 and I just downloaded Fallout 4 would you mind answering a few questions cuz I Francis am I supposed to not do anything outside of the Fallen shelter? Before I head to the house in order for this to work in the game?
I encountered two problems with this glitch that were not mentioned in the video. Good news, I also found a way to work around them. First, the language problem. I play the game in German where the book is named Du bist special. Replacing the name of the gun with the letter d did not work, it always turned into steel bars. I simply changed the language to english and named the gun y, problem solved. Everyone watching this video should understand english so the workaround is easy. The even bigger problem was, I didn't get scap item and store item to pop up at the same time. I remembered that FPS are important to a lot of mechanics in the game and I play on a high end PC so my FPS are always high, even at max settings. I used my GPUs driver to limit the FPS at 30 and managed to scrap and store on the first try after that. So, the higher your FPS the harder it gets to duplicate the book.
@SonicBoomBot434 that was happening to me, I found I had a key in my inventory which doesn't show in the transfer window as you can't store them in there. My problem now is I don't have the scrap option when dropping the book and going into settlement mode
Glitch works but the addictions do not. Have tested this on two different characters and neither worked. Addictions will lower your stats, but the book won't let you raise them back up. Drugs/alcohol do work for the temporary debuffs to raise stats, but don't waste your time on the addictions.
I'm having the same problem. I'm thinking that as a PS5 player the chems part doesn't work. I have noticed he is showing this hack/glitch on an Xbox. Maybe that's how he is having it work. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But I don't have an Xbox to test that theory.
Hey there, just a heads up for people just stumbling upon this video now. Yes, the glitch still works as of now in July. I also want to help anyone who encounters issues while trying this glitch. The first problem is when you select the "scrap and modify" button but the right menu doesn't appear. Make sure you hit both buttons at the exact same time. It might take a few attempts, but it will eventually work. The second issue is not being able to modify the special book with an attachment. If nothing shows up, try loading an earlier save and repeating the steps to get back to the special book customization. Hopefully, the modifying options should appear. So once the customization options appear, DO NOT scroll down past the "receivers" option, the menu will go blank again if you do. I recommend modifying the receiver since it's the only one you can access without it disappearing. These were problems I had, and I did see a few other people having similar issues. I hope my explanation helps. If anyone has any questions about these fixes, and I'll do my best to answer.
Steamdeck player here. Every time I try to scrap/modify the gun renamed y, it shows me wood as a weapon to modify instead of the book although I don’t have any in my inventory or in the workbench..
I haven't come across that problem, but I'll try my best to give suggestions. It might just take a simple reload of an old save to correct things, but if that doesn't work, you can let me know and I'll try to come up with more suggestions then.
on PS5 after next-gen update (in Performance mode, if it matters), getting both scrap+store menus at once was tricky but confirming here, IT WORKS! an easy-ish tip about timing.. just slide your thumb across quickly from Square to Circle but keep your thumb down on Circle. When u get the timing right, it shows both menus. Then, while continuing to keep Circle held down the entire time, roll the side of your thumb down onto X twice (to confirm each menu), then let go of Circle :)
Also, thank you @adam.golden tried it unsuccessfully a few times then said hmm someone with a working brain (not me!) will have figured this out. Golden indeed.
For anyone that’s played a bit alrdy and having trouble due to unremovable Misc items, try just backing out of the mod menu when the wrong item comes up after scrapping+modding it. For me it kept bringing up the Wicked Trailer Key. Instead of reloading my save again I just backed out of the mod menu, checked inventory with the intention of trying to remove Wicked Trailer key to storage but it wasn’t there. So I took out another weapon, renamed it to y, scrapped+modded that one and the SPECIAL book came up. Plus somehow I got the wicked trailer key back🤷♂️. Also the gun I renamed to y that worked was a combat shotgun instead of 10mm

I remember the debuffs from chems and booze, but not the survival mode. Will have to make a save trying to get the duplicate trick to work. Not sure if it will be easier or harder than the OG dogmeat method.
Just a note for everyone that is playing it in spanish, the only name that worked in the weapon to summon the "¡Eres S.P.E.C.I.A.L.!" book is "¡e" or "open exclamation mark"+"e"... Hope this helps.

Thank you for explaining this so well. I’ve played this game with mods for years but I’ve never gotten achievements so doing a new playthru as literal god himself for the grind makes it easier
dude.... i was used to duplicate with the conveyor storage in the contractor DLC. this method is better by FAR! im eager to try it in a new character! thanks
As of 5/16/3024 this kinda still works. If you have any mission items in your inventory, it will not work. If you have an earlier save in the game, you can still do it.

Green Eggs and Ham. loved the trick. We had a similar one in baldurs gate when we were testing it. I was part of the testing team for Fallout 1 and Tactics and i still have a trick for fallout 1 that i have never seen posted on the internet.

Green eggs and ham! Thx! For those who're a bit slow like me: 1. To "scrap" the book, we need to have the materials for the said mod for the weapon else the book won't be scrappable. Alternatively use a pool stick or something like that. 2. Like multiple comments have said, to duplicate, hold down the scrap button, wait for about 0.2 of a second and hold down the store button.
A huge note here addictions don't affect your ability to increase special, only effects that innately reduce the special count (Like how alcohol reduces int by 1) addictions are an unnecessary step

Guessing this is a trick that was known from back when Fallout was first popular, but now that it's getting our attention again it makes sense to put this out there again. I didn't know about this back when I first played years ago, so it's a great one to learn about now! I got everything to L10 and that's good enough for me (I think). Thank you!

you can go even further by filling your pockets after turning on survival mode so that you're over encumbered giving you an extra -2 endurance and agility
Green Eggs and Ham. However, on pc, just use the console, and set your stats to whatever... The contraptions workshop dlc, with the builders and stuff, you can just dupe the book by using the storage one.
I just noticed something neat that I've never noticed before. When he asks to leave a like, the like/dislike buttons light up with a rainbow boarder lol. At least on the android app.
Im playing on pc with the Xbox launcher app. i cannot get this to work for the life of me. ive tried using a controller and keyboard commands. no luck. any suggestions?
@@flubyux2probably your timing. In my experience the timing of button press has to be VERY accurate. But i think it's much easier to do with controller than keyboard.
@@JGuapo512 couldn't get to storage part. i got a piece of armor, nothing else in inventory, renamed it 'y' lower case, and ONE TIME when I hit both scrap and store at same time, it brought up the You're Special book... but couldn't mod it. Tried again and each time it would scrap the 'y' armor and kick me out of the system in spite of fact that I saw the mod screen behind the store screen. It just doesn't work. Not on weapons bench. Not on armor bench. And I have no mods. Nothing. Wasted 40 minutes trying it.

@@evanbarrett4192 yes but I haven't updated to the new GEN. But supposedly that doesn't matter. I hold the right side of the controller with both hands. Left thumb over X or square Right thumb over B or O. Hold your left thumb down. Then immediately after releasing your left thumb hold down your right thumb. Keep doing it until you see the overlapping menus. At first it took me forever to get it once. I'm pretty good at it now but sometimes it still takes 3-4 tries. The timing has to be dead on
@@jak_379 Before doing any missions or side quests I was level 10 with everything. Plus unlimited resources. Well basically unlimited. You have to at least have one of any junk item and you can just double it over and over. What part are you having trouble with?
@@Finkbeiner42 let me explain so basically I’ve mastered the part of the video about the duplication of the book and the pistol rename. It’s the last part when he starts talking about getting the stats all the way up into the 20s using chems and drugs that I want to do and was not able to. I’ll try again tomorrow but I’m having trouble with that.

I did this years ago on my first play through the dog meat method. All stats to 10 and man it made the grind so ezy just pick all the best perks instantly by like lvl 20 your build is complete lmao...........Great video ESO you always come up with the crazy awesome stuff TY if i do another run i'm defo going to try this.
Yes did this too. It felt like the total need and enjoyment of grinding for power is gone. So for me it basically ruined my run and went to boredom real fast because it was so easy. Started over did it the normal way and it was so much more enjoyable doing something for the power. Then again, at the end we all are overpowered 😅
@@kschab Bummer not sure the secret/glitch is that both menu's show one in front of other while holding button then ok'ing it both times making glitch work scraping one and sending it back into work shop. So you can do it over and over.

Holding the B button keeps the scrap message up long enough for you to click A to scrap the book leaving the option to store the book.
