This translation is so incredible to me. I'm from Chicago. My ancestors (read: my great-grandparents) were among the first of the Great Migration to Chicago to escape racial terrorism in Mississippi. I've never gone South for the first 23 years of my life. Then, during a family road trip, we crossed the Mississippi River, and I literally had such a deep, profound sense of dread overtake my whole body. It was like multiple voices were confused and anguished, telling me to "RUN BACK NORTH. YOU DON'T BELONG HERE." It was extremely shocking.

Why am I just now realizing the parallel between Rose and Chris' mom? They both survive the initial injury, and die waiting by the side of the road for someone to come look for them, but nobody is looking for them. With his mom, he did nothing and feels guilty, with Rose he actively leaves her to die and feels no guilt at all. The screenplay is even better than I realized.

@@AdamtheGrey02 He doesn't outright assume that though. It's very probable that he or another black person he knows had a bad experience with meeting racist parents. That's why he wanted to know if Rose told them; if they know he's black and invite them anyway, they're at least not going to chase him with a shotgun or shout slurs at him. It's not that he assumes all white people act like that, but some do and if the parents knowingly invite a black person he can be quite sure they're not going to attack him physically or verbally. That's not assuming, that's ruling out the worst possible outcome. Here's a logical answer to your "logical only if you don't think about it" question.
@AdamtheGrey02
@AdamtheGrey02 2 года назад
@@DerMoerpler He assumed it considering he didn't know them yet he got very nervous. His buddy did the same when he talked about White folks. Reverse that dialogue and the media would have a seizure. I'm also not the one claiming this is racism. I'm merely pointing out if you can conclude what the cop did was racist then what he did was also racist. He stereotyped them regardless of experience or not which is what the cop did. The cop could also have had his share of negative experiences from Black people or the cop could have been correct that a mere incident in that part of the country in this made up world would give him the authority to ask for everyone's ID. Also, the "worst possible outcome" that only came to his mind enough to want it to be ruled out was because they were White.

I was so excited to see you'd be watching this - it's probably my favorite horror movie! One of the many things I love about this film is that final scene when you're worried that the police are coming. Normally, the police arriving would be the happy ending to a horror movie or thriller; the point where you can relax and know the main character will be all right. But here, you are TERRIFIED by the idea. It forces you to see things from Chris's perspective, and sends a powerful message about the black experience in the US today. Truly a masterpiece.
@patwilliams4732
@patwilliams4732 Год назад
I realize you don't want to hear this, but that scene isn't about the police - it's about women. Men have finally reached the limit of their tolerance for women (especially white women) who think they can use tears and lies to get everything they want. That's exactly the kind of toxicity behind the whole 'Karen' meme. Since they face no accountability, women have really come to rely on that method - and that's why it's so vindicating to watch it fail in that scene.
@Crazy_Diamond_75
@Crazy_Diamond_75 Год назад
@@patwilliams4732 It's both, really. White women have been weaponizing the police against Black men for over a century and a half. White men don't need the pretext, they're mostly free to commit violence against Black people as they please, especially if they're cops.

And ngl I’ve watched the LOTR one many times cuz no one ever wants to watch them with me and even if they do they never appreciate it properly so I have to watch it through ur reactions 😂

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves Popcorn in bed. It really is like watching a movie with a friend. Especially since a lot of the other reaction sites are, and this is a subtle difference, their sites are "WATCH ME react to a movie to the point that I am the focal point " as opposed to Popcorn in bed which is "watch a movie with me" . Hope that is understandable.

16:26 "I just want him and Rose to be together at all times and to not separate" ...if he didn't get out, they might have actually been together. This is one of the most creative horror movies from the last few years, it is SO GOOD! You should also check out the film "US" by Jordan Peele.
