Wow, what a tough subject. Always tough to tackle because many of us come from different backgrounds. So how does someone tackle racism. Well in this movie it hits you in the face. I discovered racism when I was in Junior High. I lived in Queens New York and invited my friend Eric Cherry over to my house. He took the same bus home as I did but would stay on it to Jamaica Brooklyn where he lives. So I told him to tell his parents that he would be home later and we got off at my stop. Walking to my house we got some strange looks from my neighbors. I thought it was kind of weird. Eric had a good time. I showed him my models I put together and my model rocket collection. Walked him to the bus stop and just had a good time with my friend. Later having dinner I asked my dad that Eric and I got strange looks from our neighbors. You see you ask my dad something and you usually get a half hour encyclopedia answer. But all he said was it was because Eric was Black. I waited for more but that was it. I’ve learned to understand it more. But still wonder way. If this movie makes you think more about the subject good. That’s what great cinema is for. Not just to entertain us but also to make us think. That happened in 1971. It’s still fresh on my mind. It’s the only one word answer my dad ever gave me.

I don't want to spoil anything for folks who haven't seen the movie yet, but Peele's interviews and commentary about it shows another example (of oh so many) of how much thought, feeling, and genuine community care he puts into his work.

I think that no matter what Peele does, no matter how great his films are and probably will be in the future, this is going to be the one he's remembered for. Its relevant. Its smart. It gives voice to voicelesss in a way that no one else ever has. What Romero did with his zombie films in regards to capitalism, Peele did here in regards to minorities and the reality they face. Its going to one of, if not, the most important film that happens in our generation when it comes to what it had to say and how it was said.

I really appreciate Mr. Peele for using the Sunken Place as a sort of metaphor for the voiceless, those who are kept down in this society. I relate to that message, too. I’ve made no secret that I’m on the autism spectrum, I say it with pride. But I always get the feeling that a lot, not all, but a lot of neurotypical people have a condescending attitude towards people like me. Case in point, my right-wing cousin tried to get me kicked out of our school and sent to a “special” school. Being neurodivergent can be exhausting, because it seems like the majority of people are just trying to make me feel otherised, treated like a pariah. But how well Jordan Peele captures that feeling really speaks to my soul. I’d like to thank him for this.

I finally watched this in December and really enjoyed it. The only things I didn't really care for was the comic relief buddy character, but I don't like comic relief much to begin with, I'd rather just keep ramping up the tension. The one exception is Crispin Glover in Friday the 13th part 4, he's iconic.

This may be your most important deep dive and for that I thank you. It’s difficult stories like these that not only make horror such a vital genre for stories but to attempt to break down barriers despite how long it may take. Don’t let anyone bully you about talking about this story. We need people from different backgrounds acknowledging others histories. Plus your deep dive covers so much like with music and tv. Love how comprehensive you always are. I remember watching key and peele all the time in college and quoting it with my friends lol but I’m so glad peele has evolved to our modern horror master! “Oh , it is actually possible to see myself on a script” YES AND YES , that’s how I absolutely feel with Knock at the cabin. The moment the girl student says to Peele “thank you, I didn’t expect this film to be possible” yep , I wanna say that to M night so bad. Representation freaking matters !!! Coming to more of the video. I think Betty Gabriel is a hugely underrated actress, her facial expressions are insane !! Talk about PERFORMANCE. Insert ‘What do you mean’ meme when you said this was Allison Williams debut . When you mentioned Eminem , I just remembered how in the series ‘pose’ the main Latina black character says : “vogue was created by black / Latino gay men, white people never cared until Madonna released the song and then everyone cared” that just proves your point even more, I love Madonna and she did it to give awareness and that’s why on the video she has black dancers but it was about the white fandom And finally , YES AND YES when Peele said this movie can also go to any race living in this white dominated world cause although I’m not a black person, as a Latino, especially as a Colombian, I’ve faced so many uncomfortable situations like get out , especially cause of the horrible representation streaming services give about Colombia and that’s what white people consume . Jordan Peele, I love you lmafo This deep dive was everything sis , everything, keep doing this cause I will be seated. Slay

This is a film that obviously has lots of layers, symbolism, metaphors, foreshadowing, etc.. and pretty much everything about this film has already been said, but at the end of the day I've always simply been super impressed by the writing, acting, score, and overall craftsmanship.. it's one of those films that I liked so much that I ruined it for myself by watching it too many times in a short time frame.. I hate when that happens but sometimes replay value can get the best of us.. I remember reading once there were some Oscar voters that interacted with other voters who didn't consider Get Out an "Oscar film".. you'd have to think that some of The Academy might've not even watched it or maybe it just held a mirror up to some of them and they didn't like it.. I also remember Samuel L. Jackson being "critical" of a black British actor being cast as Chris over an African American actor who has "first hand experience" on what Chris experiences.. I'm pretty sure Sam Jackson made that comment before the film was released but I don't remember.. either way I'm not really qualified to have an opinion on that topic, but I had no idea that Daniel Kaluuya was British until after I saw it and he obviously killed it, I thought he was perfect and it was obviously an incredible performance..
@HauntedHippie

I should’ve included his interviews where he talked about how being African in the uk, he was able to relate pretty much directly to Chris. He described Jordan Peele’s writing as “a universal black experience” I think he meant in white society but nonetheless

I was pondering your deep dive in my head when I thought about one of your favorite movies. In back to the future, there’s that scene of Marty playing Johnny B. Good which was made popular by Chuck Berry: a black rock n roll legend before Elvis. Then a member of the band calls up his cousin “Chuck” to have him listen to Marty playing saying it’s like the sound he’s been looking for. Now Chuck Berry was already revered before Elvis but by other musicians. Of course, Elvis added the sex appeal and “looks” but it seems that scene in Back to the Future is a bit like “rock n roll is still a white thing” since it’s a white kid giving Chuck Berry the song that made him famous. A real chicken vs egg thing but kinda unfair to Chuck. But at least we later got Jimi Hendrix! He too is legendary, even more than Berry to rock n roll and he represents! He’s my all time favorite guitar player and an influence on me and other famous guitarist. Even later we would get music like rap metal haha which I think is cool that it blends the music that seems from two separate worlds but works together all the same. I love that your videos get me thinking and I couldn’t help but share with you my thoughts. Especially about BTTF lol

Okay I apologize in advance, I didn't really want to go here in my original comment because I didn't want to go off track and I wanted to just focus on the film itself, but as a life long hip-hop head, I feel the urge to say something lol.. I'm just giving my own personal perspective, not trying to be combative, just giving some context from my vantage point.. yes Eminem has sold more records than any other hip-hop artist (he's far from the richest though) and yes he absolutely 1000% benefited from being white, he always talked about this in his music, specifically on his track "White America" which sums it up perfectly.. yes white people have ripped off and benefited from black culture for quite some time, clearly no debating... but I can assure you that hip-hop was extremely marketable throughout the entire 90s and it was definitely marketed to white suburbia like myself the entire decade (that's a whole other issue and discussion).. I was 9 in 1993 begging my mom for the cassette of Snoop Dogg's debut Doggystyle and she wouldn't let me because he was on trial for murder at the time (now she finds him charming, time flies lol).. but all I'm saying is that hip-hop was super mainstream and marketable before Eminem was ever in the picture, he didn't even breakthrough until 1999.. and that Will Smith net worth seems misleading because it says 1988-1990 but by 1997-1998 he was one of if not the biggest star on the planet because of his TV/movies and solo music, although his music was considered pop and "lame and corny" by the hip-hop standards of the time.. I'm just trying to make sure that people who weren't around at the time understand how mainstream and marketable hip-hop was before Eminem, but no doubt Eminem introduced the genre to many who would've never given the genre a fair shot otherwise.. as long as there's no revisionist history in 50 years where Eminem is being credited for creating and starting hip-hop (like Elvis gets credited for "starting" rock n roll), then we should be good.. sorry for the rant, I was debating whether I should even press send lol.. just wanted to give my 2 cents..

When I brought up the old guys that was kind of my whole point like even though black people made it big, Eminem made it exponentially more culturally accepted

@@HauntedHippiegotcha.. no doubt he took the genre to an even higher level and made it even more popular, I guess I just disagree that he made it "more acceptable" because hip-hop was already the #1 genre in America and surpassed rock by the late 90s.. MTV controlled what was considered cool at the time and hip-hop artists became the new rock stars before Em was in the picture.. but MTV pushed Em hard when he debuted and was a major reason why he blew up.. Em's music back then was extremely popular with the youth, but "accepted" might not be the right word, especially initially, because he was literally hated by every group known to man from 1999-2002 because of his controversial and wildly offensive lyrics.. sometimes I do wonder if some of the younger folks truly understand how insanely crazy his lyrics were back then.. I get what you're saying though, I'm just being a nerd lol.. it's all love!

“Black stories don’t travel overseas”. Do these people think black people exist only in the US? Go to Brazil and say the words “Julius and Rochelle”, everybody knows who they are. Ask about My Wife and Kids or Fresh Prince of Bel Air, White Chicks, Bring it On. These are black stories that are big not only among all Brazilians. Good writing is good writing regardless. Everybody Hates Chris is bigger in Brazil than in the US. That young boy is famous af there and so are Tichina Arnold and Terry Crews.

@@cloakedbirdy ok white lady I'll explain, In the black community we have this saying of some people like to be in the sunken place, Meaning you can't save them if they want to act like racism doesn't exist. no matter how hard you try to talk to them or save them they can't be save. basically coonery .

Dang, teenage me wasn’t aware anything about self aware issues in 2017? I was so lazy in my confront zone, and yes there’s girls play as Peter Pan in theater performance is a thing I dunno why. Thank goodness at least I am Hispanic with a mix of Latin states, but people look at me like I’m a generic white guy but I’m born as Latin, so take that as you will. So yea, got nothing to say… really Enjoyed Get out!, and I wish to tell my teenager self to say “HEY! Go watch this movie in theaters!” 🕰️
