I like to sit and watch the birds and imagine them as gigantic murderous beasts ready to devour my flesh, and then I'm glad we're not in the Cretaceous anymore. What are some of your favorite things to do outside? :)
Twostones00 become a dog walker! then you can borrow other people's dogs and play with them and even get paid for it! unlike me, I just borrow the neighbor's dog and he comes out like, emily get out of my yard we've talked about this
Twostones00 oh, I'm sorry I made an assumption about you. and I feel you re: the bike rally; that's one week of the summer I don't miss from my time living in Rapid City.
While working up north I used to go to town and download some music and a few videos so I could listen to them before going to sleep. Made me feel a lot more connected.
Damn it feels good to live in a country where you can roam basically everywhere! (Sweden) Also, there's a swedish saying; "Det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder." (There are no bad weather, only bad clothing.) Love the channel!
Ohmagawd. From 4:35 on is some of the funniest stuff Iver ever seen from you Emily. Great vid as always. I'm glad you had fun with it despite any embarrassment I actually have to edit, and that never happens on RU-vid. This is sincerely one of the most incredible videos I've ever seen. You covered everything. It's awesome.
I'm in the park right now on a breather from juggling practice. I love how generally happier people are while walking around in nature. It's hard to stay grumpy while taking a moment to just exist with everything around you.
I only brought one bottle of water for the whole day and was severely dehydrated, also someone had thrown up all over the port-a-potty and it was ookie. So in general I was not even prepared to go outside, which is ironic since the video is about ... being prepared to go outside
Starting up my summer running routine again, I forgot how much water I can go through AND how nasty a port-a-pottycan be. But anyhoo, great video! Nice to see more of the team!
I saw the 'Get Outside' thumbnail yesterday. And without watching the video, went outside and did about 8 hours of DIY work in my backyard. It was very enjoyable.
There should be something akin to a nobel prize for this kind of fearless awesomeness. Plus, having pets that need to go outside is great motivation. My doggy gets me out walking very regularly. I love her :)
I switched from "8 hour starring at screen, helping idiots" office job to a technician (trams and power lines). Never been happier. Not only is the pay better, I'm also feeling like actually doing something for the town I live in.
Our family loves your show. Thank you for your amazing work and how you teach. We love it. Please don't ever take out the ending "This one still has brains on it."
In my area, if you “brace yourself against a tree,” you’re pretty likely to press your back against a scorpion. They like to hang out in crevices in the bark.
Challenge 6: I'm disabled af. Before anyone comes up with some helpful suggestions or admonishments, I actually do love the outdoors and used to spend tons of time outside, but now...I can't. I generally can't even sit outside for very long, because the ground and most outdoor furniture are not hip-friendly. Walking outside most days is also not an option, because walking on uneven surfaces starts hurting very quickly. Sigh.
One of my favorite things about this channel is that you constantly surprise me with clever and different subjects for videos, and you pursue them fearlessly. This was great!!!
You are amazing. Saw a piece on CBS Saturday News...So glad I saw it. Keep up the amazing things you do. I will always be checking your blog. You are a bright example of youth.
If you need something to do outside and don't mind having a bit of technology around you, try Geocaching. It's fun and can help discover interesting places.
I took my kids to the Runge Center in Jefferson City, Missouri today! Great trails plus an indoor educational center which is great for kids. We saw turkeys today!
I started playing Ingress five to six years ago. That got me going outside. I continue with 2.5 to 3.5 hours each day even now. My favorite route is in the forrest back behind the Shomyoji Temple. Other than birds, I've seen squirrels, a raccoon, a snake, and a number of stray cats. Ducks, turtles, and Carp live in the pond in front of the temple and migratory birds can be seen from time to time. It started with Ingress, but I now enjoy a couple hours outside daily, be it sweltering heat and high humidity in the summer (line now), during a typhoon (a couple weeks ago), or with snow falling during the winter. I just don't feel right without my 10,000 steps on my pedometer every day.
The "bad clothing" sort of thing breaks down with high heat. In dry climates, shade fixes that quite well. But there's no good escape from 95F with 90% humidity....which is most days here in Tennessee, at least from May to September. Unless it's raining, then it's 80-85, but 100% humid. I miss my southern California weather
Nice video! I agree people need to get out more... and those bodily function demonstrations for the woods were so funny! You should do more dissection videos as well!
Most days I spend at least an hour, usually more, outside. Getting to see the seasons change and feel the world on a daily basis is invaluable. Embrace the less comfortable conditions, and you'll like the pretty days even more.
We had a great day today out birdwatching. We saw hundreds of avocets, 3 different sp of ibis, 8 sp of ducks, 9 different sp of raptor, 5 sp of heron, bitterns, stilts, brolgas, grebes, and crakes! Here in Australia we have a really strange duck called a musk duck , they never come out onto land. We saw heaps of them displaying, they look like lizards!
The city of Toronto, where I live, has an Urban Forestry department. Natural fauna and flora are encouraged along both the Don and Humber rivers that flow though the city. The naturalization of the river valleys was a result of the effects of Hurricane Hazel in 1954
Jeff Liggett Yeah, they don’t understand true Florida heat much less FL wildlife. I live in Miami and in no way do I want to fo to the Everglades in the height of summer. Might as well make funeral preparations if I do that. Between all the predators, insects, heat and humidity I would die. Nope, nature for me is a screen saver picture on my computer.
Yeah, I'm also in a a more-hot-than-Chicago place (more hot than central FL, but also a bit less humid). One thing the video didn't hit on was how evening and (especially) morning are your friends. Get out late or early, stay hydrated and shaded as much as possible and take it in small doses if your body is telling you to back off. Anyway, humans can deal with and thrive in some pretty serious extremes of outdoor temperature. Cheers.
I've been with my husband (total relationship time, not married years) for coming up on 5 years in October, and although I did a lot of camping and hiking as a kid, I hadn't quite experienced nature to this extent until meeting this family I now call my own. Organized camp grounds with washrooms? Hiking on marked trails with well tended outhouses at the beginning/end? Nope! Snowmobile trek across frozen ponds until you're 3 hours away from even the nearest abandoned logging road just to have lunch in the woods! I learned to pee in the woods at the age of 25...
I just saw about you on the news. Looking forward to watching all your videos. Also, I can't believe people were making negative comments about you... because I think you're adorable and the sexiest thing about you is your intelligence. 😍
It helps to know which plants get interesting at which seasons. For example, forsythias bloom in the very early Spring, azaleas - around the beginning of Summer, maples and ginkgo trees are at their most flamboyant mid-Autumn, and needle-leaved trees look wonderful in the Winter (^ w ^)
