Get the John Frusciante Tone? - Can I get his tone using the Boss BP-1W Booster Preamp Waza Craft?

Yeah I was recording for a while, I just made a mistake, I’m well aware it’s played on the bridge pickup. As I mentioned in the video, I was going for his live tone and John has used both his tele and Strats to play that song live on many occasions so I felt it was fine to use my Strat for the example. I also mentioned that I don’t have his pedals, I don’t have the mxr micro amp for example. I’m not really a tone chaser as such desperately trying to get his exact tone with his exact gear, I just know how to get close with the gear I have and the video was never intended to be an exact guide to sound like JF. Haha yeah, the blonde deluxe has the cream back speaker with more mids and the bright cap removed firmware by default. Honestly, my favourite amp I’ve owned and I’ve owned some expensive valve amps in the past!

The whole board? Ok 😁. Guitar > TC poly tune mini 3 > VOX V847-C wah > xotic SP compressor > boss BP-1w > Beetronics Vezzpa fuzz > Wampler Pantheon Deluxe overdrive > Boss GT1000 core > tc electronic ditto+. The boss DD 200 & RV 200 are in loop 2 of the GT1000 and all the drives are in loop 1 this means I can add pitch effects before my drives from the GT and it also means I can put my pedal delay & reverb after the amp but before the speaker in the GT when I’m using that for amp sim duties but most of the time the amps are bypassed to go out into my Fender Deluxe Reverb Tone Master FSR blonde edition.

I more meant the pedals I’m using rather than “don’t have”, I also wasn’t going for the John lead tone so the DS-2 wouldn’t have been used. I think I also had it up for sale at the time so wasn’t considering it.

@@JasonWharton82 Ah yeah nice one thanks, could not place it, been years since I heard that album, must revisit. By The Way (pun intended) You've got very close indeed to Johns tone. Have you done any comparisons between the BP-1w and the Exotic EP Booster? I use the EP Booster but am really drawn to the BP-1w as I think it sounds gorgeous and has moe tweakability. Mick on TPS did a brief youtube short demoing the 2 boosters but I would love a more in depth comparison, time to put my habd in my pocket (yet again) I guess! 👍

I don’t own an EP unfortunately but I think you can get similar results, just like you mentioned, the BP is a little more versatile. I love it, its normal place in the board for me is at the beginning of my drive section, that way I can use it to boost my other drive pedals and it kinda gives me two extra gain stages that way.

@@JasonWharton82 Yeah gonna have to purchase it now and test it out. Is it noisy at all? Thing that annoys me about most of my Boss pedals (they're not Waza) is the extra noise and/or differnce in levels when I turn them on.

@DarClaude can’t say I’ve noticed it be noisy but like you say, the waza ones tend not to be due to the improved buffers and components. There’s a switchable buffer on the BP I’d recommend using the standard mode rather than the vintage mode if noise is a potential issue though.
