GETTING BRACES AT 30 YEARS OLD (ASH WATSON) 

I got braces at 30 also! Almost 2 years in and it’s be tough but also the best thing I’ve done. I was super insecure about my teeth before. I feel less insecure now WITH braces. Also we need to de-stigmatize having braces as an adult. Everyone’s teeth move throughout their life. Thank you so much for talking about this and being so open.

Ash, I'm glad you are sharing your journey with your braces at age 30. There are a lot of older people who maybe couldn't afford them when they were young but are now able to because they are older. This gives them encouragement to do the same in taking that first step like you have done. Jay, I think it would be nice to interview Ellis about his editing skills for RU-vid. I love that fact that you have taken your leap & admitted how you were a bit nervous the first couple of days wondering “Did I do the right thing?” But your whole attitude towards having braces at 30 years of age & “owning it” has put forward a positive look on mental health & dental health as a whole. It’s something that is inspiring in my mind to everyone & including those that see you as a role model, that there is nothing wrong with making a decision to do something that you may feel nervous & maybe a little uncomfortable about despite knowing that it will be bring something positive in to your life. That you can still have that moment of doubt afterwards. Being brave & stepping out in front of everyone afterwards can be that big scary moment you dread & everything will fade away. Maybe then in a year on from then you look back & think your worries & fears never matched up with what you feared would happen & that’s a great thing. Thank you both for doing this video & I am looking forward to the next one. Jay, your whiteboard ended up getting hit by lighting. And I love your little doodle of Ash doing a handstand. I did wonder first off why you had a doodle person on a P bar like that. Then read the title for the manual. Maybe make Doodle Ash’s legs a bit longer & give him some bicep muscles & his cape. 😃

My dad got them at the same time as me cuz his parents couldn’t afford them for him as a teen. I was 14 and he was 42 years old, best decision he ever made.

You’re doing the right thing for confidence and dental health. Ashley is such an authentic guy. My teeth have started to crowd and I’m 38 and I can definitely see myself getting braces. Even in your closeup I didn’t really notice them, Ash. I’m glad you took the plunge. It will be worth it in the end. Jay - it would be fun if you did chats with your fans every now and again. You could even do zoom for people in other countries.

I'm turning 48 this year, and actually thinking about straightening my teeth as well. No age is too old to take care of you in the way that you want.

I had braces as a teen and then, again, in my mid-40s. It hurt so much more as an adult, but it was worth it, since the things that bother you aesthetically can often lead to mechanical issues down the line

I hadn't noticed your one tooth Ash. I had braces when I was 18 - which felt very old at the time! But I'd had a removable brace at the age of 14 which hadn't done what we'd hoped it would, so I had fixed braces on top and bottom when I was doing my a levels. I think I had them on for just over a year. I also had a head brace at night during that time too! It wasn't the best of times tbh. I hope you have a better experience than I had with them.

It's amazing isn't it how many hang ups we lumber ourselves with only to discover later that we're the only person bothered about it. I'm loving this new idea Jay btw and I'm excited to see where it leads us.

Had fixed braces for 6 years. God speed mate, and the wait for the snickers, lion bars, toffee crisps and all sticky sweets are so worth it

I got Invisalign when I was 30, I was told that I wouldn’t need them on as long as conventional braces because you change them every fortnight instead of adjustment every 6 weeks. The time will pass so quickly and you’ll be so glad you did it.

My nephew had braces for nearly 2 years over lockdown. His teeth look great now. I'm sure you will love the results!

I had braces for 3 years as a teenager, then a retainer for another 7 years after that. Retainer at first was 24/7 except for eating and then gradually dropped down to the point of one night a week. I stopped wearing it completely when covid hit. Now I have an Invisalign alternative called smile styler on my bottom teeth because they had started to shift. Over $10,000 has gone into fixing my teeth since I was 15 which is insane to think about. Ash, I cannot stress enough how important the maintenance is after getting your braces removed. Make sure you use your retainer properly and listen to your orthodontist!

As a former professor who taught Dental Hygiene and I have practiced over 35 years…. Brush and floss!!!! It is very important! You will get a better ending result. You are putting a huge investment into yourself and it would be worth the time to spend cleaning them correctly. A water flosser is a great addition but not enough to do instead of regular flossing.

Ash, if you have a bracket off please get it fixed. When I had braces and didn’t get it fixed, it delayed treatment so it’s worth getting sorted

I had braces for 3 years, and it was full of highs and lows haha 😅 but I used to love getting the colours changed! But love how my teeth look now !!

My best friend got her braces at 30 and she already had a beautiful smile, but it's stunning now! Just remember to wear a retainer when you get them off (if the dentist says so)

I got mine done in my late 30s. I've always had horrible teeth (way worse than Ash's) but they never really bothered me enough to go through the expense of getting them fixed even though I hated seeing photos of myself smiling. Then I had a couple of root canals pop up which was going to cost the same as having them extracted and braces, so I went with it. Was a few years of hell but I am a lot happier with them now. It's funny how much you don't realise it impacts on you until it's done. On another note, Ash when you're sick of soup or mashed potatoes when your teeth are sore, KFC nuggets my friend!

I got braces at age 48 you’re never too old to want straight teeth 🦷 🙏🏻 I started with invisilign and after 22 months I got so frustrated with the time it was taking I made the orthodontist to swap to train tracks. I do not recommend invisilign whatsoever.

My mom got braces in her late 40's early 50's. My teeth were so bad I had mine on for 7 year's.

I got braces at 34 you will not regret it. Having a great smile was worth it.

You made the right choice with the metal braces. The ceramic braces break easier. My son had them, and he was constantly breaking brackets. 🙄 $5000 was enough. Didn’t enjoy paying more for broken brackets!

I never noticed anything wrong with your teeth so be proud, but I also agree, there is no better use for money than investing in your health or self improvement.

I'm almost 30 and I got my braces last year.

Braces were the worse times of my life 😭. I had expansion retainers when I was about 9, I was suppose to eat with them in so I just wouldn't eat unless it was soup. I got train tracks again when I was 18 and the same thing. I have deep long scars inside my cheeks were the endsnof the wires would be stuck into my cheeks, I just couldn't eat, it made me feel sick, I became so skinny so when I got to the retainer stage after 2 years and I just couldn't wear it, it would make me gag so I didn't wear them and got slightly wonky teeth on the bottom 🙈. My mouth is so small I was supposed to have 6 teeth out for my braces but I refused it. Now at 32 years old I want braces again but the thought of trying to eat with them again 🤢 and the impression mould you have before hand🤮😂.

I’m 22 and I would love to straighten my bottoms…I got lucky that my top teeth are straight and cover my bottom teeth. People ask if I’ve ever had braces because I have straight teeth lol… But I know when I talk you can see my crooked bottom teeth and I’m self conscious of it. I know there’s braces you can get that go behind the teeth. They don’t go in the front you don’t even notice them.

I have one baby tooth with no adult tooth behind it my dentist isn’t worried about it he said it could fall out on its own in 20’s, 30’s,40’s or even 50’s but I know eventually when the tooth does fall out I will need an implant since I don’t have an adult tooth behind it I am 22 now

I think braces in adulthood is more common than people think? I had mine at 22, and a colleague who had hers in her early 30s.

I got braces at 31 and it was worth every penny and pain. The tops were fine but the bottoms were brutal as far as pain went. A word of advice…if once you get the brackets off they tell you to wear a retainer every night for the rest of your life? Do it. I didn’t and now my teeth aren’t as nice as they were. ;-/

Please make the video with Olivia not be for kids, because right now we can comment on it and that just unfortunate with her telling such an incredible story about her life. Idk how that video was marked as for kids, but it restricts a lot of youtube functions and it rather unfortunate for us regular viewers.

Well to be fair, Ash is super human, so a crooked tooth or two was never noticed. Braces are worth it. The confidence I have in my smile made the pain very worth it.

I believe Tom Cruise got his braces in his forties.

Old school braces are so much better.

🦷 SAVE your teeth! 😬 (1) STOP drinking soda (it's acidic and harmful to the enamel) (2) Floss (daily preferably, but ok if you can only manage 2 to 3x week) (3) Use an electric toothbrush (4) If you have too many teeth, you should get some pulled BEFORE you get braces (otherwise they may revert to their original position after braces are removed). It happened to my lower teeth. And if anyone makes fun of you, you can tell them you're auditioning for the next remake of the James Bond film, Moonraker. 😉

I got braces at 35 or 36 I think. It's not fun, but it's not horrible either. #selfcare
