I pulled out this footage from 2 years ago at Gracie barra Ottawa that I never got to edit. Sometimes I can get buried with footage and thats why it can take so long for me to edit and release some videos!
Please dont stop commenting it's the best part and really sets you apart from other sparring videos. Love to hear how you set up and highlight the things we miss. The slo-mo is great and people can just mute the video if they dont want to hear comments.
@@MMAShredded Thank you for all the amazing content! You're consistently a topic of conversation at Muay Thai and I've personally found a love and respect for ending combos with a low kick because of you.
Easy to see how Yusuf became so skilled. He is a great sparring partner: excellent control, thinks through his game and his opponent’s game, focuses on form over speed and strength, no negative ego, and can laugh while being serious. This means he can train with anyone in a gym safely and productively.
Great sparring partners are so helpful to have in a gym. There was a dude named DJ at my gym, he was ~200 lbs, quick, switched stances, super technical, and also chill and everyone loved sparring with him.
Personally, I really like the slow mo style... I think for some exchanges it highlights the cool part even more. I think some people could still benefit from you picking certain parts that are extra interesting and maybe not as obvious what is going on for you to explain though.
I appreciate you being honest, humble and putting yourself out there, knowing you are showing where you don't look as good as you usually do! Sparring bigger/taller opponents with superior reach can be challenging! 😅
Awesome session Jeff. While it was 2 years ago you have definitely grown a lot as a fighter since then. It would be interesting to see you spar with him again now. Hopefully everybody takes note here. Adapting in the middle of a fight like Jeff does here when he started to stand his ground more the match went better for him. That's a sign of true mastery in martial arts.
Hey man, I love the slo-mo addition but please, don't leave out the commentary. It's the thing that helps me the most to improve on my fighting awareness, the build up of the technics, which kicks are for distracting and feinting and the ones are supposed to land, the thought process of how the fight is devolpling in first person... those are the things that really make the difference between your chanel and the rest, and it's thanks to them that I'm able to follow all the small details that can change the course of a fight. I love your chanel, keep it up!
Yes, the uninterrupted slowmo footage is great! It's great both from the standpoint of enjoyment and engagement with the video, as well as when you actually want to learn something from it. I feel the urge to pause the video and go frame by frame much less often. Great idea and great job :) But your voice commentary is always appreaciated. It increases the learning value, so I would not cut that part.
Video style with the slowmos is very good! feels more cohesive as we see what leads to what, and on top of that when I see the slowmo starting I start paying attention more and can see more details of what happends, plus it keeps the attention going throught the video as its less repetitive than having one tempo. Very nice!
There are many things that set professional fighters a league above, but the one thing that stands out is the efficiency and precision of movement. It takes so much skill and confidence in your own ability to only make necessary moves and to stay protected with just enough movement, but not too much. Incredible job though. The fact that you can even hang as much as you did is insane.
Really awesome sparring! Your partner Yousef is extremely fast and seems to know exactly where he's going ahead of time! You can tell he puts a lot of effort into not hurting his partner despite the speed and he is great at catching kicks and using those teaps for spacing. You maintain your composure real well against that flurry, it would be really easy to just get scared and start swinging for the fences and you kept running your game plan and switching it up and keepin cool. Impressive on all fronts Jeff. Thx again
I like both styles of editing to be honest but if I had to chose, I like your spotlight breakdowns because I’m not a fighter so hearing your input during pauses helps me learn.
Well done Jeff and tanks for everything you do ! Pls keep the commentary going and use the slow mo as an highlight, after the real time footage, as they do on TV. It will allow you to give us even more technical details. Much love from France bro !
The slowmo effects are awesome! Helps analyzes the before, the land, and the consequence a bit better. I wonder what adding that classic circle highlight to this would do
Hi Jeff, Nice video, slow mo are nice but I prefer when you comment more on the video. It's really your signature on RU-vid, those technical comments on the sparring sessions. 😁😁😁👍👍👍
Love the new style videos. I watched you through all of my own fights localy in WA and have been able to implement multiple points of your style into my own. Ive seen lots of growth and have some sneaky stuff only I (and Jeff) now know.Thank you for the awesome content 👊
Thanks for the video! The slow-mo style is nice, but as others have already written your commentary about what is happening and what you are thinking in the moment is what sets the videos apart. Also sometimes it is nice to see the real speed of the action to really appreciate it. Maybe you could try slow-mo replays of interesting parts - though I know other could feel that it would be disruptive to the flow of the video ..
I love the slow-mo parts. I think slo-mo with a little bit of commentary is the best of both worlds. You are killing it with the content! Keep up the good work 👏🏼
I like slow motion on some of the exchanges and significant strikes! Sometimes I'd have to rewind to grasp what just happened, but the slow mo helps with that, great editing!👍🏾
As always thanks so much for sharing -you’re the best! Also here have some unsolicited opinions: I find the usual blacking out a bit too disruptive, so I like that slowmo version better. Your comments on the other hand usually really help me grasp what is happening/ what was the plan. Anyways much love!
Not only was he fast, but he's got a reach advantage. It looked like he could still counter and hit you back right after you hit him even with your full extension.
Didn’t know this guy but he is really good. His striking game is on point. Gotta say that at the end of the video, we can see that you got to understand his timing better. Props to you for sparring these guys. Great content as always 🔥
The slow mo is actually very cool. I’ve been kickboxing/sparring for 4 years so I always had a very good idea of what’s going on but the slo mo like highlights things and I imagine it’s incredibly helpful for beginners!
Hey sir, always checking your videos, even not practicing regularly like in the past. I always watch you before going to the session in Dojo. I helps me keep up with the new and hungry fighters 😂 The slo mo is so cool and easy Tho i love you commenting the videos, cuz it really help to understand something that maybe so natural for you, but sometimes i never realize it or thought about it. Thank you
Oh wow. So many change ups in his movement. What was a kick, is then a feint, then turned to another feint, then a punch... Great stuff. And the new editing style is spot on.
Bro you could also make another video from this footage talking about the mistakes you made and where you have improved since this video. keep up the great work.
Wow, that guy was LIGHTNING fast! I'm used to seeing you getting in and out before the other guy blinks. Nice job in the session, you did well despite the natural disadvantage. I like the slow-mo, but the highlight of the channel for me is your commenting and thoughts during the video. If you can combine both it would be amazing, though I don't know how much of a hussle that makes the editing. If I have to choose one it's your commentary, but both would be a significant improvement. Cheers man!
Slow motion is definitely interesting. I would even go for a slow mo to draw attention to the cool échange, and then a second slower mo to hone in on what exactly happened, then back to regular speed. I understand editing is hard work though so whatever you give us I will work with. Thanks for the great revision material Jeff chan!
I love this video editing style. I’m sure it’s a little harder to do to select and slow down the clips, but it makes the viewing much more digestible for the viewer
I enjoy both styles of editing but you commentating during the video is my slight preference. Im only a beginner and dont understand the high level nuances just by watching, which you explain well. Great stuff and fun video as always! Cheers Jeff!
Another great vid jeff !!! N yes yusuf is unpredictable Very chill but ready to reply at any given time Good timing great anticipation Lot to learn from watching this session Thx again jeff your vids are very helpfull
Yuh, those slow downs are dope indeed. A little breakdown before or something is dope too, but doesn't have to be on each and every exchange.. just slowing them down to showcase it works. I mean it feels good to watch for me at least. : )
Jeff, bro, we all get outclassed by those who's bigger, faster, smarter, better footwork, better movements, better strikes and blocks, and that's what makes us stronger and better, to learn our own mistakes and practice to make it better. And l know you have learn here. Great video session bro, keep it up 💪🥊👍
Awesome. Trying to land shots on a bigger guy is extremely hard. I find myself constantly having to work harder to find an opening without taking punishment on the way in but once on the inside I can get some shots off and it feels good 😂
It seemed as the Bellator fighter was able to read a great deal of your manuvers; however the sparring was done slowly. Mr Chan your technique and abillity is outstanding. I am so pleased that you release the sparring and the fact that you observe the sparring as it should be. I truly believe there are few poeple like yourself that are willing to admit their perfected techniques and their weaknesses alike. You are so open minded. I have a difficult time believing competitors like yourself are not completely self centered. I admire your integrity, love for the sport and willingness to share.
Slow mo technique very good but don't stop ur in depth stop motion analysis, go 4 a combo, slow mo 4 good techs in the fight and your usual stop motion analysis 4 stand out techniques during the fight✊. Keep up the gr8 content, much love from Africa Eswatini (Swaziland)
definitely keep circling and explaining its what took the channel here in my opinion. perhaps a combo of both to show it in movement but dont get rid of the full freeze and circle either
Hi Jeff, both editing style are good but I think this one feels more like a “highlights” of the cool moments, overall I think the commentary and the style from before suits these kind of video more as we can see how fast or how it unfolds in real time! Awesome spar 😍
The point for point breakdown is great for an official sanctioned match, especially if it goes to a decision. These shorter videos work great with the slow mo!
Hey man, great reference material, as usual! I have one off-top question to you guys or maybe even our host will elaborate. I've got a boxing background and recently I've been doing some sparings "with legs" - in mma gym - and there is something that is bugging me. Somehow, at least for me, boxing sparrings seem a little more benefitial in a way that we had big gloves (at least 16oz), tried to hit a lot... maybe not harder but faster, in a more dynamic fashion; there were less techniques and so everyhing had to be more polished. During sparring you were trying to hit your oponent seriously - of course with respect and all the health precautions. So on the other hand, during these kickboxing sparrs, of course there's no ring but some matts so even the environment is less... defined. Sparrs consist of many techniques, everyone is going at 40-50%, so you I'm not really sure if certain actions will play out the same if both parties go 100% and - some sessions - as seen on your channel escalate, because "we were going at 50, but you threw that legkick at 75, so I did some spinning elbow", you know what I'm saying? Everything seems more chaotic and I'm not sure if it simulates fight as good as the boxing sparring. But at the same time mma striking has a lot of new hand elements like all those overheads and strange long uppercuts or spinning strikes... I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say/ask:)
