The problem with Widgets in Windows 11 (aside from the ads and privacy intrusion) is that they are accessed via a taskbar menu. They need to be desktop widgets - always there, on the desktop, without having to click a menu. Until that's the case, I'll keep them off.
you need to be able to move the widgets out on your desktop like you could 10 years ago, rather then them being stuck in an ugly ass box on one side of your screen taking up most of the space .
It's all on one page, I don't consider those widgets. Widgets are exposed on the desktop and live not something you have to search for in a folder. These are simply links.
Turned mine off after just a few minutes. In the Level1Techs Windows11 video Wendell speaks about how many anti-patterns the OS has and the widgets panel is full of them. If it was the Windows Vista implementation but improved I would have liked it but its clearly designed to show you as many ads as possible rather than cool / informative / useful widgets.
Remember when widgets were going to transform the way we live when they were in Windows Vista? They're just inconvenient notifications and I already hate notifications.
I never thought anything so silly, but I definitely found them useful and people spent the next decade re-creating similar things/taking it further with Rainmeter and on Linux with Conky. They don't have to be notifications, as they don't... notify you. No pop-ups. To say they're notifications is to not understand what notifications do. And even if they were, saying they're "inconvenient" when they're tucked out of your way... uhh what?
Even if I disable it, knowing Windows, it'll just keep running in the background regardless. I'll spend an hour or so researching whether I can completely uninstall it, along with People and Teams. They literally couldn't design a single useful UI feature if their lives depended on it. Why can't we put widgets on the desktop? Why a whole new panel over just placing them in the Start Menu? Why can't we put _any_ program in it like with Live Tiles? You can't even change the browser or search engine the Widgets use without third-party programs.
WTF, you can uninstall teams with no issues, people is literally just a few KB small and can be disabled, and VBS is disabled when it is showing disabled. It is even in Windows 10, just was always disabled by default. Shows how misinformed you are.
@@kyoudaiken Teams shouldn't come preinstalled in the first place. I don't use People either, so I should be able to uninstall it completely _without_ third-party software. Same with most default Windows apps, like Photos, I use way better alternatives. I never mentioned VBS.
I just want to customise it so it has useful information that I want, like the tiles in W10. This is just an endless rolling cluster of news that I'm not interested in, from sources I'm not interested in and can't disable, rendering the whole thing useless. I just want weather, the latest stories from my topics, my calendar and a couple of third party tiles, like in W10.
all it is, is bing news. It's the worst widget implementation i've ever seen. Anything cool idea you give that windows 10/11 team, they somehow find out the worst possible way to implement it. It's a skill really. no 3rd party app support. This taskbar area is garbage really.
When I upgrade, the first thing I'll do is turn everything off as much as possible, so that Microsoft doesn't collect tons of data about me. Personally, I don't see the point in widgets that are not open source and that require registration. [this is my use scenario, I'm not urging you to do anything]
I really need help. I need a Calendar View on my f* desktop. They removed it on the task bar and there is no f* Widget with Outlook Calendar anymore like you have. What the hell is wrong with Microsoft?
Put on mouse hover (left screen edge) to show widgets for quick access. But first: let user remove all news, let user put software shortcuts = productivity, productivity, productivity!
You talked 4 minutes for... nothing. You didn't show us how us the most important thing - how to bring them on the screen! I tried to drag the "Weather" widget on the desktop and nothing happened. So, is there a way to do so, or every time I have to press the "Widgets" icons on the taskbar and search the weather from there? P. S. I found on Microsoft Store an application named "Widget Launcher" (for Win 10, but it works OK in Win 11, too). After install, I searched for weather, choosed my country/region and - "voila".
I didn’t show you that because officially with how the widgets dock is meant to be used, you CANT put them on the desktop. The thing you found is a third party program that uses different widgets
help, please. II've turned evertything off, yet I've got a growing number of "widgets": Wall street/weather/traffic... On my screen when I turn on my laptop. FYI they disappear afetr I enter my code
I wish I could drag the widgets to the desktop. Also wish windows were more intelligent... For an example, if I`m listening to music on Spotify and simutaliously play a video on RU-vid, Spotify could be automatically paused.. and when I stop playing the video spotify could start playing automatically. Also wish I could have a independent youtube video playing over any screen whilist I am doing other things...
Hi,I live in Switzerland and my widget screen on windows 11 is all with German language bug I want to be with french language . It doesn't change even if I change the language and the region on the widgets settings. Pls help me how to make it
why are the widgets not moving over to my desktop like it did before? I was wanting to customize my desktop with the offered widgets but when you drag it over from the pull up menu it just disappears? Please help as i like having this feature
They really need to add that feature since it will be more useful and people will use the widgets more, or at least have a sidebar. I feel that the widgets being restricted to a pop-up menu will lead to less people using and seeing the widgets.
@@kbmarines9989 I guess the widgets were supposed to be the replacement for the metro ui live tiles since they removed those in the start menu in this version of Windows. But what I don’t understand is why they put that menu in Windows 10 since the start menu has live titles for the news and weather apps, while Windows 11 doesn’t (which is why they implemented it).
@@elijahtorres2688 exactly and it’s why I’m wondering if they plan on altering things as time goes by because honestly it’s still in development stages and we are the beta testers until it’s fully Available to the open market! Even my pc wouldn’t allow me to download so I just bypassed it and went directly to there main download page.. who knows and maybe some improvements will come sooner rather than later?
This is the most disappointing thing. I just want to see the weather at my home and work with a quick glance, not have to sit down and sort through menus.
Instead of spending development time on barely useful bloat, microsoft should spend that time and money on maintaining and updating core components of windows that are still borked. The only reason why ms decided to put this in is to collect more user information. I jumped ship to windows 10 from 7 as soon as it came out. I am not doing it this time round. All this looks unnecessary. What does 11 do that 10 can't, what has 11 made better that 10 does worse? Can't wait till the day Linux becomes the desktop standard and they get their shit together and make a half decent de.
Windows 7 still had the gadgets, but they removed the sidebar. Windows 8 is when they removed the gadgets completely due to security risks from third party developers.
I mean, it’s not really much different than 10. Operating Systems are tools. You use the tools that do the job you need and don’t get romantic about it.
Hello.. I want to know how did u get ur live wallpaper. Its awesome. I really like windows Vista 🪟 and live tiles. It's almost like 3 D touch on smartphone. It gives a glance of what to do and where u want to go.
