We're in the ICW!!!! Now let's make wake... In safe areas, of course. We're entering North Carolina - the 3rd state on our itinerary. Lots of old bridges and heavy traffic to keep an eye on.
Jenny and I are really enjoying this series! Rob is our next door neighbor and Sarah and your parents are our neighbors as well. Have fun on your trip!
I’m at work by 8:00 every morning. My classroom is next to Sarah’s. We’ve been teaching together for 14 years now. I’m SO excited to follow this adventure. I’m so proud of Sarah & grateful & happy for them. Thank you so much for sharing❣️🥰
so wonderful to see the hospitality shown to cruisers is still going on, very nostalgic, would like to see you begin and end the vids with your map position
Thanks for these. We bought our boat, an Albin 30 last Sep. A bit older and slower, but the right boat for us. We will be spending this summer on the Chesapeake (out of Baltimore), but the ICW is in the plans. At 64, I have about 59 years of boating under my belt, but there’s still lots to learn.
Always learning, that's the great joy of life. I almost bought an albin 27 aft cabin a few months ago. I was looking for something smaller with a single diesel.
@@CullenCraft mine is the (slightly) bigger sister of that 27. Aft cabin, a little more headroom in both cabins and a few more feet in the forward cabin giving a little more room for a separate dinette and forward berth. Still a single diesel... Perkins 115HP. My maiden voyage was bringing her home to Baltimore from the north side of Long Island.
Cullen, Damn. That boat is sweet and it's got some muscle. It sucks about the damp weather. What a great journey though!!! It's only day four and can see Rob and Sarah's progression as sailors. Keep the uploads coming! btw "Coinjock"? 😆
Looks like you had a great day today! The New York State Canal system is about 5 minutes from where I live and have been through locks many times. The system has many bridges over it, some with good clearance, some are lift bridges and there is a swing bridge a little over an hour west of me, but it has been in the open position for many years. Your day was very interesting and hope tomorrow is a good day for you!
Nice to see you guys getting that boat on plane. Realize it increases fuel consumption, but that style boat is much more stable riding on plane than plowing along at trawler speeds.
@@CullenCraft Sure, ICE, totally get it. But when crossing those bays, don’t be afraid to put it on plane to blow the carbon out occasionally. Diesels don’t like to operate under light load. Gas engines are not as susceptible, like in your boat, for instance.
Thanks for sharing. Nostalgic in reverse for me. Last year 03/17 I left Port Charlotte to FL to Barnegat Light NJ solo all offshore also about 1600mi (except NC and VA where I came into the ICW). When I got to that lock you were at, I coincidentally tied up next to a boat sticker from a boat owned by a d1ckhe4d old boss, so I ripped that sticker down while waiting for the lock to open. Took pics of it crumpled up and sent it to others who had a good laugh. It's really a small world. Coinjock in my opinion is completely over-rated but a convenient place to get a prime rib dinner. I found the ICW to be way harder to manage than open ocean because the auto pilot can only be set for like 5min at a time because of channel course changes needed. Are you going to go offshore at all or just ICW? I imagine that if all ICW, 30% of your travel will be subject to no wake zones.
After several YEARs of boat shopping, offers, accepted offers, terrible boat surveys, persnickety boat owners/sellers, boat broker shenanigans (I am being KIND in my word choice), near-blood-loss, $$$ loss/waste, stress... and perhaps even a few tears.... I am making yet another trip down to Miami this coming next week/weekend to close the deal on an older Sea Ray 310 Sundancer.... I was curious to see if you would be interest / have the time to do any sort of collaboration &/or boat captaining/tutoring for newbies.... I'll be taking the ICW all the way to the Hilton Head Island / Beaufort / Port Royal / Charleston area.... I thought of giving you a shout out years ago when I 1st started (what has turned out to be) a years long 'challenge' of making this happen..... All the Best, Dave
another good one!! Glad your sharing this adventure! ...im on vacation and its raining, so these vids are a perfect way to still relax! Keep em commin!😎
