My evaporative cooler have wheels and the shell of them made out of ABS plastic make it light. The cooling pad is made out of carton. It have a 30 liter water tank. It have a air filter in some models on the cooling pad cover. It can be washed with a soft bristled brush under the flow of water. The maintenance is needed between a week to three months depending on the air conditions.

My maintenance with Swamp Coolers is I replace the pads, drain water, flush & clean base of cooler, scrub, clean, and clear any salt crystal residue on around cooler base, on and in all of the nook & crannies of all cooler pads.After that I spray 2 layers of tar on entire base of cooler, & spray paint the cooler and pads with swamp cooler paint. It's a lot of work and a little pricey, but your swamp cooler will last a very long time. Plus its only once a year. It will last you well over 10 yrs.

Someone mentioned a "cool" idea to avoid the swampy smell is to add a little fabric softener to the water. Anyone ever try this?

never use that synthetic cooling pad( they are not efficient, only 60% efficiency) use aspen pad they are more than 85% efficient.

Aspen pads cool better but smell funky if you turn the pump off and back on. I put in a fresh set of aspen pads & 2 Dial brand "Fresh Air" deodorant blocks at the beginning of summer every year. I leave my water pump on until I shut the thing down in the fall. Let me repeat that, I don't turn the water pump off all summer. I haven't found a way to keep the pads from stinking if they dry out, so I keep them wet. I replace the deodorant blocks a few times thru the summer as they erode away.

Respond to this video.Now,I have an issue.With a swamp cooler.Mine is shocking me every time I touch the metal.I washed it out before re-installing it,as it's a cool-max portable on wheels.It did't shock me till a few weeks ago.It's been fine for 2 1/2 months,so just started.Any ideas?Other than now I just plug it in,and un plug it and so don't even touch the switches any more.But was just wondering why.Unless water got into the electrical somehow.I sealed all that good tho,{I assumed}

Pan must be cleaned thoroughly, a new pump strainer should be used.

@StevensBrysonphx Well,I see no one answered you so maybe 2 heads are better than one.I patched my electric dishwasher hole the size of about a 50 cent piece or larger,with a piece of plexiglass cut bigger and marine caulking as it's water resistant and can stand temperatures of over 120 degrees.I smeared the hell out of the plexiglass and smoshed it on the hole and let it set up for 2 days to make sure it was dry.It was dry the next day tho.And this was 10 yrs ago and is still holding.

he didn't clean the base. and you could still see lots of salt/build up on the inside. Also the "troph" was hella dirty.

I'm sure my electric bill must be higher than it would be if I turned it off at night, but when I used to do that the pads would be stinking to high heaven by morning. It costs about $20 for new pads & this way I use the same pads all summer. I'm guessing the extra cost of running the pump is about the same as new pads. As for burning out my pump, I've been running the same one since 2009. It seems like they last longer if they're left running. Take care.

Aspen pads made from wood work the best on these type of coolers...I'm a woman and even I know that. What was this guy THINKING??

Some people don't that's why we are watching the video to get some cooler knowledge. I am a guy!

them blue pads suck. the ones you took out are best. them blue pads will make it 15* hotter in your house. Just use the shredded aspen wood pads. the are better than any other product.
@user7351

dude you don't turn the pump off during the summer? There are 2 reasons not to do that. 1. it's gonna cost ALOT. 2. it will burn out if it's never off.
@7x779
@7x779 7 лет назад
Dude, I guess you just changed the pads to make a video, or promote the blue pads? Your old pads were fine, and now your cooler is going to cool less, and filter more poorly, than your old Aspen pads.

those blue pads didnt work out for me i dont jonow why, i had to buy those less expensive since this kind of problem occour to me....can you tell me why this happened to me?
@timtoolman9940

Minerals create channels in the blue pads so water runs in streams and does spread across the pad. My experience with them is even new about 6 degrees higher duct temperature than Aspen. As mineral channels get worse you can see duct temps about the same as the outdoor air temp. They are expensive for not cooling well but I have to use them because our water supply is from a river so the Aspen pads turn black in a few weeks from algae. You can put vinegar in the water to try and rejuvenate the blue pads.

Do I have to turn off the electricity of the swamp cooler in order to change the pads and hook the hoses or not? Sorry if my question is stupid, but I'm a novice....thank you.

This is terrible! Why are we replacing Aspen pads with junk pads? The Aspen pads are already sized at Home Depot or your local supply house. no need to cut. And Aspen pads get 3° cooler
@bababooey7576
@bababooey7576 8 лет назад
so they can drag that generic roll of crappy stuff and cut to fit. weird...I agree with you completely! I'd always use the good stuff in a case like this.

Dude, finally someone here who knows, all that alternative synthetic and paper pads are crap. Aspen is best, and not only that, but this guy's old pads looked fine.

A lot of people are giving this guy shit for using these blue pads but I wonder if he just bought the cheapest stuff available for the purpose of making the video.
@7x779
@7x779 7 лет назад
I don't think so, unless things have changed, the Aspen pads are cheaper. He bought them because the label says they are cooler, and it looks pretty, and doesn't make a mess in your car or truck when you bring them home.

NEVER !!! USE Dura cool pads, they will destroy the cooler, if there is Mold on the pads your not doing it WRONG. there is nothing wrong with the pads you are replacing !!! its not styrofoam , its Plastic ! plastic dose not soak up water, they don't work, they spray water all over the inside of the cooler. this guy has no clue what he is doing

Swamp coolers are asinine. This was high tech in 1920. Hey look guys I can stand next to a cup of water and achieve the same.
