In this video I talk about my experiences in Ghana and why it is so hard to live here. Moving from USA to Ghana was a huge step and crazy move I have to say that I made. However, I have learned so much and lots of people have asked about how it is to move to Ghana. So, I thought why not do a video talking about the steps anyone should do to be well prepared to move to this place. It can be smooth for you and others a bit rough, but I believe if you follow these 7 steps you will be perfectly fine. I also believe these steps can help you when moving to any part of Africa or even the world. I wish I knew these things before moving here, but we sometimes have to learn it the hard way. I do not want anyone else to struggle like I did so here you go free advice! Trust me you will end up fine if you follow this guide.
Hope you enjoy this video. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, COMMENT, & SHARE this video!!!!! New videos every week!

Everything you said is spot on. 3 years ago I moved with my husband to Kenya. I had never been. We had the intention to move permanently. We didn't plan to come back. It never crossed my mind, I wasn't going to make it. We knew no one. We had no jobs. I am lvn by profession, plus I was a surgical tech for. Ten years. My husband had 20 years experience in HVAC. We found no work. No help. Nothing. It was extremely hard for me, coming from California. We struggled big time, we stayed 1 year. Barely had enough money to get back. The day before returning, literally, my husband had a stroke. So anyone reading this, she is telling the truth. You need alot of money, way more than 10 thousand, me personally I would say you need at least 50 thousand if not more. I'm not kidding. You need to go there knowing that you are going to start a business, what business, how much it cost to start and maintain. Your Visa, how that works. How to maintain it. I could go on and on as well. If you aren't going to start a business.... dont go to Africa with less than a Master's degree and a connection. And that is the truth. There is no middle class. Only the have's and the have not's. That is the real deal, from what I know.

To be honest it's hard every where not just Ghana or Kenya. I also moved abroad (outside Africa) and struggled really hard due to less money and poor or unreliable information, less to no local contacts etc.. It's not the country its life, its 2020, the word cheap doesn't exist anymore. U need money to move anywhere in the world and even more in western worlds. Its nothing do with Kenya. It took me almost a year to find a job abroad as well even thou I was well educated from Africa. Why do u except anything less when you are moving to Africa? Africa is changing and people need to get things straight before moving anywhere in the world. Just saying

@@limay4694 thanks for reading Only thing I would add... even though I agree with your wisdom. If you come to America as a foreigner, you can get assistance. Food stamps, homeless shelter, etc. In Kenya there is nothing, and the lifestyle of the poor in kenya is very different from the poor in America. For those reasons alone, I would say it would be more challenging for an American to leave with out proper preparation.

Coming from Brooklyn,New York too(with residency,house and business in Ghana),be accepting and open to a new lifestyle.Also,build your house or buy one if possible!!! You're right with almost everything you said. By the way to move to another world in life there are many basic things that you can't forget or over look. When l left to Holland l was 23 years old and never knew anybody but l considered myself as one trying to know the world. I had extreme difficulties that nearly shut down my dreams but after all the hard hustling it became better for that's life in all parts of the world. It's all about sacrifice to discover something new in this big world.

When I move to Ghana I want to build a house with 4 to 5 rooms so I can help others established because I know how hard it is, I am going through it right now, I want to help to lighten the load by providing a free place to stay while they work toward getting rooted in Ghana with their families, I thought about building a family shelter for those who have small children and teenagers, it's important we come together and help one another go back home to our ancestors land, I would like to employ my brothers and sisters in Ghana to work with the shelter to help service all blacks from around the world without catering to or treating any group of blacks special than the other with more privilege over the other, all must feel loved and welcome back home, we must set up to invest in our ancestors land, I do have a gofundme account email me if you would like to help, rubydadaa@gmail.com and I will email you back with the account

Ok, I have been to Ghana several times, from America. I even got married there. All she said in this video is true. The bad of Ghana is that the roads are bad, dirt roads full of potholes in too many places. Which makes things dusty and ugly. The open sewers are nasty and smelly. Not enough jobs there so lots of people are on the streets selling things, building small shops along the roads, trying to make a living. At almost every stop light, people come up to your car, trying to sell things. The look of Ghana is old and run down. Old buildings. Electricity cuts off all the time which is a pain to keep dealing with. I mean, is this situation that hard to fix? And I always get sick from drinking the water after about 4 days there. . Internet is mostly slow and unreliable. And when you rent a car, it comes with a driver. And one day rental is 8 hrs, not a full 24 hr. day. Yep, they want the car back after 8 hrs or you will have to pay for 2 days rental. And you get a driver because there are no street signs, so you won't know how to get around there. I just was not feeling it there. The good of Ghana is that the people are resilient and friendly, as in most African countries. The food is great. The Malls are nice. Entertainment is good. The gated communities are extremely nice, if they let you in. The rich are living a very good life. But in most cases, the 3rd world conditions go right up to the gated communities. Inside nice, bad outside. For me, it's a interesting visit for about 2 weeks. But truly, for an American, the only place that I've been to in Africa that I can get what I'm used to here and still experience the African life is South Africa. Johannesburg, Durban and especially Capetown. I was in awe the whole time that I was in Capetown. It reminded me of San Francisco or Newport Beach, Calif. But even there, they had some rundown areas. Went to the beach there and on the rocks was this gigantic seal. It must have weighed 1200 pounds. The people were feeding fishes to this monster and it was happily eating. These are things that you don't see everyday. Went to Soweto and Pretoria. Lots of history to see. Didn't spend nearly enough time there. Oh, rent a car, no need for those expensive taxis, and my GPS on my phone worked perfectly there and I could use my ATM card there. Couldn't do that in Ghana or Nigeria. And I found renting the guesthouses were better than the hotels. I was the only one in my guesthouse and it had everything there. Stove, refrigerator, kitchen, living room and a pool all to myself. Think I paid $45 US dollars per night.

I never understood why so many Africans are going to Trinidad. A lot of them are working as security guards. It could also be a stepping stone for them to come to North America, I am just assuming this. I don't know, but it would be definitely a much better life for them if they are dirt poor in Africa.

@@sbostic08 South Africa is more developed than most African States but it is no different to living in the west especially the US. If your intention is to escape racism and risk of being shot. South Africa is not safer and the US, and it always has been one of the few African countries with race issues. There are a whole lot of African countries that are very safe and have no issue relating to racism.

Very good video. These problems I think are the same on most of African Countries. But one thing is some people move to Africa and keep comparing to Europe and USA. Stop doing that or you will never succeed. When you decide to move move with ur heart and soul. Change your mindset and leave America, and Europe where it is and embrace your new challenge. Is not easy but it's worth it.

On the second trip, I realized that I would have to go a few times before making the decision to return. My advice to AAs is this - don't be discouraged because of someone else's experience. There are lots of foreigners from Europe, Asia, the Americas and middle eastern countries working or doing business in Africa and some even make more money than locals. As a Kenyan that lived and worked in the US for 15 years before returning home, I would love to see more AAs come to this country and enjoy some of the benefits of being an expatriate here. Believe you me, some expatriate jobs come with perks such as a free house, vehicle and free education for your children. You guys must do your research before leaving. If an African can leave Africa and make it in country where there is no love, surely, An AA can leave a country where there is no love and make it in Africa. My stay there wasn't a breeze. I chose the narrow path, worked 2 sometimes 3 jobs, denied myself many pleasures and invested back home. I bought land, built my own house, one for my parents as well as some rentals, and established a business and an organic farm. My friends and aquaintances that chose lavish American lifestyles of debt, big houses, big cars, parties, frequent trips to Vegas and Mexico are now in the child support dilemma, divorced, or on food stamps. I left at 20 and retuned at 36 still young enough to enjoy life and live stress free forever. I can easily find employment if I wanted to, but after stressing myself working so hard in the US I dont see myself doing that here because I have everything I need. With your own house a backyard garden, few chickens, one or two goats you can feed yourself a whole year without ever stepping into a grocery store or paying anyone rent. I encourage you guys to do some research and find a country in Africa that your heart feels drawn to. Lots of opportunities in agriculture/farming, real estate, education, research, construction, healthcare, IT, Design etc.

Exactly as I thought there are many dialects in Africa. It's not our fault that we don't know the language(s) mother Africa sold us for measly pennies although a life is priceless. Even after selling us and abandoning us they did not come to America and teach us our culture like where was the African schools like they have Chinese schools in America. Thank you for telling the truth there are no jobs available. We are just a wayward people who really don't belong anywhere because everything has been taking from us.

@samiraa3671 4 года назад
You're saying there's nothing hard because you're using your retirement money you accumulated in the states. Most people looking at these videos and dreaming of going to Africa do not have a stream of income. They probably think that they could just move there and easily find employment, the way immigrants in America do. The reality is that in most African countries it's very difficult to find a job. I've seen university graduates working in Chinese factories because they couldn't find a job in their fields of studies. People need to know the realities of life in developing countries so they're better prepared when they move there.

Hello there, l love your honesty, transparency, and the truthfulness that you showed in your video. I am a person who speaks my truth, and when l see someone like-minded l respect you for that. Nowadays, the majority of people are so dishonest, it is very hard to trust people, l am a Black woman who grew up in Canada, and l have been wanting to leave Canada for the last twenty years, but money always has been a reason why l am still in Canada. I have been doing lots of research about Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Caribbean. Unfortunately, the results of my search about Africa hasn't been positive compare to Asia, or the Caribbean I visited Thailand and the Dominican Republic few years ago for two months, and l love Thailand the people are respectful, genuine, kind, helpful, and polite....The only challenge that l experienced while l was in Thailand for two months was the language barrier however, l used my hands, and the people were so amazing, they went above and beyond to help me with whatever l needed. I also found out through my research, and watching lots of videos if someone is not loaded with money Africa is not the place to move to. I am a single Black woman, who put myself through school, because l did not have good parents when l was growing up, l got married a a very young age, had a child divorced when my son was six months old, so it was very hard to raised a child as a single mom, working, and going to school all at the same time. Then despite having two unniversity degrees, a master and l still cannot find a job in my field so l end up working minimum, mediocre jobs untill l had a total breakdown. Because of all these systemic racism lots of Black women are disadvantage financially, and are living belong the poverty line. Oftentimes, the women are the one who take care of the kids when they got divorced in conclusion, after watching ton of videos about Africa including your video seven things to consider before moving to Ghana personally, l come to the conclusion Africa is not for me.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you study? I am surprised that you had problems re rhe right job with your qualifications. I live in Toronto.
@gladazur6042
@gladazur6042 4 года назад
@@islandgirl3330 Well, my degrees are in International Development Studies, and Conflict Resolution Studies. I went back to University in 2003, graduated in 2007 from University in Manitoba. Since l grew up in Montreal, l studied Early Childhood Development, and specialized in special needs back in the 90's, l couldn't find a job in Montreal, l had to move to Manitoba in order to find a job as a special needs Teacher. I lived in Manitoba for sixteen years, and l never passed on for a job because of the color of my skin. After my long term relationship ended, and transitioned to a new career l wanted to start a new beginning, l speak French, and English, and all the government's department are in Ottawa so l thought Ottawa was the best place to be in order to find a job in Foreign Affairs. Unfortunately, history repeated itself eastern Canada its not what you know, but who you know. When l moved to Ontario in 2010, l did not know a soul, all l had was my savings, my degrees, lots of enthusiasm, lots of hope, and lots of ambitions. It didn't take too long for my savings to run out, due to the cost of living in comparison of the two provinces; it took me a year and half to find a job in a grocery store l was introduced to the owner of that grocery store by a couple that l met at a church. Then the second job l was able to find was in a group home, because of my previous qualification, and experiences working in Manitoba as a special needs Educator. I am talking from personal experiences, and other Black professionals that l met here in Ottawa few of them were working for the government as a low level entry for years, no promotion even though, three of these people had a Ph.D. they all left to Europe, when you are Black in Canada, in order to succeed, and thriving you need to know the right people, or have the supernatural things on you so people can see you, and acknowledge you as a human being. The reason why I am still in Ottawa is due to my health, l cannot even afford to move overseas, l hope that answer your question.

I also think people need to be REALISTIC in the time they give the country/system they are moving to. Usually, we spend 3-4 years at university and dedicate maybe a good ten years or more to building our working lives in other countries like US or UK but when we move to Africa people give up before two years and condemn the experience as a "failure" which is usually blamed on the country. Give Africa a third of the time you have given the west before you deem it a failure and don't expect to see out of this world reasons to stay on until at least 3 years living in the chosen country in Africa. Go and come and extend the time each visit. That's okay too, the move does not always have to be so dramatic. There is a trend among older Africans to do half the year on continent half the year off. I think that's fine especially to begin with for a young person. too

(PLEASE READ!!! IF Black People ( people of african descent) wanted to stand up and have something to call ours we could create a black owned corporation ran and governed by black people only . Set up embassies or consulates among the west african countries that’s dedicated only to black people in the continent and through out the diaspora ( many people in the diaspora find there self wanting to return back home but are scared of the financial aspects of life) These embassies or consulates would act as an organization dedicated to Educating, bridging the Gap, Creating Generational Wealth and creating opportunities for black people on the continent and through out the diaspora! We could acquire land and open businesses along with other investment. Employ locals a few businesses in grave demand would be ... 1.cement/asphalt-manufacturer, lumber manufacturers, lumber services, 2.Commercial farming and fishing exporting through out the continent 3. Recycling plants -rubber, glass,metal, concrete,iron, Etc. Also fish processing to create fish oils and other products 4.Creating power plants and man made dams for harnessing energy 5.Manufacturing of furniture and other household goods 6.Machinery manufacturers ( Agricultural, Automotive, and electronics ) 7. Create a Financial Institution (backed by a form of cryptocurrency which is backed by gold or other natural resources )where we could invest in the locals of African Descent and their businesses in terms creating a growing economy 8.Providing electronic products, I.T services (backed by black manufacturers) and internet services Used and new phones, tv, gaming systems 9.Crude oil plants which is in virtually everything( and the continent biggest import)- www.ranken-energy.com/index.php/products-made-from-petroleum/ 10.Investing in Education institutions that primarily focuses on Technology,Sciences, Artificial Intelligence ,Math, and African ideology( philosophers, Accomplishments, Countries independence, and Struggles from the continent and through out the diaspora) So can we accomplish this ? I would say yes! Black population Around the 🌍 U.S =42,640,000 if 1 %could sacrifice 500$ to invest in our futures that 210M EUROPE=6,600,000 if 1 %could sacrifice the equivalent of 500USD to invest in our futures that 33M That’s 243M in spending power(not counting many countries on the continent and South America) All Spending will be Tracked to ensure there is no corruption and Business Decisions will be determined by “the people” Each increment of 250$ would act as a share. ultimately getting paid a percentage off profits. Ultimately the goal is to force the chinese and other people that’s (not of African descent) out of business and back to where the are from. We could organize a FB group and advertise to other streams of social media to draw support and or interest. If your reading this ,comment your ideas and if it sounds achievable!! feel free to connect with me if you would like to be apart of this makeafricagreatagain21@gmail.com
