Exactly , no need for complicated riffs and 2 minute guitar solos sometimes simplicity is king. Reminds me of black sabbath's first album , 4 piece drum set and great simple riffs
This band is on Rise Above Records out of the UK, and if you haven't noticed, we've been putting out Rise Above's albums in North America for quite a while now. Very different and killer bands!
Any fans of 70s rock/metal should dig this band. I must say the more I listen to it, the more I love it. This album does have balls, you are just used to the over produced metalcore albums that are made. I do love well-produced albums as well, but there is something more personal about analog and old school recordings. Something like this needs to be recorded like this. And the king diamond keys at the end make me so happy.
Lyrics "Death Knell" Say, can you see the cross? Inverted solemnly A symbol for the goat Of a thousand young Six, six, six Evoke the king of hell Strike the death knell Death knell Say, can you hear the chimes? Tolls now for the end Bells call out our doom As victor reaches womb Sex, sex, sex Receive the beast of evil Of evil... Can you say his name? Carrier of the light Legions of his seed A child you a spouse will feed S-A-T-A-N Under spell of death knell Death knell
@@kenzieuchiha1191 I read this somewhere, but the other claimed it means to bleed. In the lyric sheet with the CD, is reads SATAN, but lyrics sheets have been known to be wrong before...
@@Nope2022HugeTheWarningFan yeah but S-A-T-A-N get along with the previous verse "can you say his name ?". I am confused also. it was a mistake when they recorded ?
I think Ghost does Lovecraftian themes really well. They don't over do it -- keeping it simple and open to interpretation is the way to go with Lovecraftian horror. The Goat of a Thousand Young, Shub Niggurath. This is one of H. P. Lovecraft's many cosmic deities of his own Cthulhu Mythos. Ghost should definitely invest in other Lovecraftian ideas, I'd love to see something on Nyarlethotep!
I mean, goats are common Satanic imagery, and Lovecraft likely used that as his inspiration for Shub Niggurath, not the other way round. You do have a point though.
The influence of Black Sabbath and Mercyfull Fate is very clear. Also from Candlemass, I could say. Awsome work from this Swedish Band! Even remind me The Doors in some parts...
Fucking love this track. The whole album is this good but for some reason i love Death Knell the best. Sounds like something you'd hear at the end credits of an 80's horror movie.

With the help of my weird siblings, I recorded a cover of this song to pay homage to Ghost, death, satan, and all this stuff. It ended up being very, very awkward. I guess that's what happens when we play with these oh, so super serious things, eh?! If you wanna check it, and other Ghost songs covered, you can visit my channel!
I would love to have one of those "G" cross necklaces like the band wears! I wonder if they are available for fans to buy or if they're just for the band?
Funny to see all the Ghost propaganda and merchan in this video 12 years later. I'm happy I could see this band becoming what they are today, but even knowing they were great, I wouldn't believe they would be so HUGE! A real relief for the rock music!
I really LOOOOVE this song! I'm going on my second concert, and this one is with Metallica, Ghost, Gojira, Slayer and Mastodon! And i am just 11! AND living in Norway!
GUYS!!! IM NOT DRUNK OR HIGH BUT IF IM NOT MISTAKEN I BELIEVE THIS TRACK HAS SOMETHING WHICH KEEPS REMINDING ME OF KING DIAMOND!!! IT SMELLS DARK, DANGEROUS, MYSTERIOUS...ok i leave...
I get a Slayer "South of Heaven" vibe from the riff they start playing right around 2:22. A different lower tuning and slightly different phrasing but I can tell they have at least heard of this song as it is very similar.
any true metalhead or real lover of rock will love this band, they are tipping their hats to the origins of metal, if you are 14yrs old and listen to five finger death punch you will not dig this, but respect the roots of the artform
This is the darkest song from Ghost the influence of Black Sabbath & Candlemass with Mercyful Fate vibes with a bit of The Doors or Blue Oyster Cult feel
@mrdeathmetal32 I love death metal and black metal and more brutality stuff too, but if we can have a new classic band in the 10's, it's good too. Sorry for my cheesy english.
PEOPLE. STOP HATING!!! This top quality musicianship and songwriting, so if your one of those who ears and minds can't perceive Heavy Metal for the talented works of art for which it is then stop listening to the songs and quit imputing your ignorant putdowns. What sucks and sounds like shit to one might sound the exact opposite for another. All forms of Metal especially Death, Black, and Thrash get criticized constantly for its extremity for when its the whole purpose. Spiritual art is music
goddamn... i have to give ghost huge credit. i dont remember seeing a band who starts somewhere like sweden and already tours around the world including US just after their debut. hell, not even the bands here in the US do that... can't wait to see them with Opeth and Mastodon this april in Chicago. hellzfuckingyea \m/
I went on reddit and saw to my fright that people often refered to Death Knell as Opus' worst song. In fact I think it is one of the best songs on the album, if not THE best.
I'm seeing another second-leg Imperatour show in September, it can't arrive soon enough. Front and center, of course. Last time, all they did from this one was Ritual and Satan Prayer, but, this is the one I wanna hear live, in person. The one they did with the first lineup at that Argentina show was PERFECT.
Combination of Blue Oyster Cult and Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, fucking awesome, finally a new Metal band that isn't playing all that Metalcore and Deathcore stuff, just pure 70/80s style Heavy Metal! \m/
I fucking dig the keyboards so much. Very interesting band, they sound like something straight out of 70s, but also sound a bit like an indie band as well. Looking forward to any new material and news from Ghost.
