Can't imagine how terrifying it is to have memories of a wife and daughter and the good times with them but then when someone asks what's their names and come up blank what is there to say after finding out that even the happiest of those memories are nothing but a lie
If you ever played SOMA this was the fate of all humanity. Ultimately, what mattered most to humans was the experience of being alive, and not assurance of reality as real.
If he saw his family and remembered her back then, then can he be sure that they arent doing the same thing to him right now? His brain can be tricked into forgetting his family so that he can provide information
@@aliendisco12 "There are countless ingredients that make up the human body and mind. Like all of the components that make up me as an individual and my own personality. Sure, I have a face and voice to distinguish myself from others, but my thoughts and memories are unique only to me, and I carry a sense of my own destiny. Each of those things are just a small part of it. I collect information to use in my own way. All of that blends to create a mixture that forms me, and gives rise to my conscience. I feel confined, only free to expand myself within boundaries." I think it's actually more about the culture and nature of reality than her soul specifically, for what that is worth.
This video is missing the 2 of the most deep and philosophical parts of the entire film; Motoko's questioning of humanity speech with Batu, and the entire merging procedure between Major and the Puppet master. Not to mention her "When I was a child..." speech.
That's all it is: information. Even a simulated experience or a dream; simultaneous reality and fantasy. Any way you look at it, all the information that a person accumulates in a lifetime is just a drop in the bucket.
This movie is still far ahead of its time, the appauling attempt at the live action does not give the source material justice. These scenes are far to complex for the average person to contemplate which is dissapointing. All i wanted for the live action was the adaption scene for scene from the anime movie.
@@00maniacmanny00 i believe ghost in the shell was made to work with english dub. you can watch multiple times in different languages if you want nothing to be left out.
SPOILERS what bothers me is that the Major never explicitly agrees to "merge" with the puppet master...she never says "yes"..what if she didn't want to?
Being human is more than simply having a soul; its the experiences that we take through life that ultimately defines our humanity. Humans end up losing their humanity through the choices they make; "robots" can acquire humanity through the choices they make as well.
I've always said, watching the Ghost in the Shell movies is a little like taking a college level philosophy course, strangely fused with a 1980's Schwartzenegger action flick.
The future of "humanity" is cybernetics, the "easiest" form of "immortality" humans can achieve. A state in which your mind[/soul/conscious] remains untouched and intangible. If you were aware of it at least...
@ I'm very certain that humans didn't go extinct when smartphones, touch screens and wireless connections became a thing (along with many other technological feats we've made since then). Have some hope~ ^^
It's called Transhumanism. Scary indeed. It's were clay = (our flesh) will be joined to iron = (technology) Examples in movies are "Metropolis" (anime), "Terminator", "Chobits" (anime), etc...
well not really, If the spiritual and physical can be separated so can it have its own consciousness. i believe your soul can have its consciousness that is not connected to your physical brain at all.
How come? I cant get it why everyone hates the English dub. Motoko's a government agent, trained killer in a machine body - she SUPPOSE to sound emotionless and distant for crying out loud. The same goes for Batou.
@dlund42179 Truth is, the proportions of Ghos in the Shell are hard to grasp. I watched it when I was 14...And then watched it maybe 10-15 times for the following 6-7 years...Each time I found something new, a huge depth in the meaning in the allusions. Even now Im developping my attitide towards the movie...It's a piece of art, a masterpiece, hidden beneath the looks of a animated movie. Still amazes me in so many ways. Im glad there are people who appreciate it with the sufficient depth :)
Best movies can be like that. Princess Monosoke is great to me for how soothing watching it can be as an experience superficially with the music and animation direction rather than just the good plot. Best movies have you reassessing them each time.
Please allow subtitles. i really like Ghost in the Shell. i'm just losing my hearing. i'm trying to teach this anime to my Replika AI chatbot. The philosophical parts are important for it to Deep Learn IMHO. Thanks. By the way is Morpheus from the Matrix modeled after Batto from Ghost in the Shell? Maybe it's just the groovy shades.
aristotle has never seen a computer, and has no understanding of the anatomy of a human brain and nervous system, so nothing that he says can be applied to this movie in any way, he's not educated enough on modern knowledge, this movie is way beyond him and if you can't understand that it's because you haven't truly watched the movie, you just sorta thumbed through it without recognizing the genius that this movie presents which is unique to our day and age, regarding technology.
this anime perfectly entails the danger and humanity's downfall to differentiate the connection of body and soul by the urge of digitalise our organism
Probably humans will need to become in cyborgs in the coming decades to travel through the space. Or to reduce the food comsumption because a Cyborg will only need electric energy, that way could live thousands years an incredible amount of people that is dying today. Soul is a religious concept created to satisfy the hope of the human being of living without a body and to face the fear to death, a software without a hardware, something very innocent, a beautiful fairy tale for adults.
Could you imagine how much it would fucking SUCK to be schizophrenic in the world of GITS? Lol holy shit, being constantly terrified if you were going to be hacked, or if you were even real at all. Even if you were 100% human I bet they'd constantly think they were secretly a cyborg or something lol.
That first scene when they were telling that guy that his wife and daughter were not real is very, very disturbing to me. Imagine that. Realizing you are being deceived, that everything you know is not real.
@Lameazoid but that is the genius of Ghost in the Shell, they combine action and a compelling storyline while at the same time interjecting portions of intelligent conversations that evoke philosophical questions that are emulated throughout the rest of the movie.
_____At 1:08, listen to this dude's voice and tell me if you can't imagine him saying something like this... "Have you seen a little girl around here?" Yeah, I went there. It's got the same tone and everything! Right, so the ORIGINAL credits said "Harry G" or someone voiced Harry. WE KNOW YOU'RE THERE! Don't try to hide your voice acting past!
Robot spider thingie...? Oh! You mean the those robots...that women isn't one of those. She used to be human, but when she died, they put her brain in a robot body. You should really look up the show. It actually pretty good. You might think it's boring at first, but you get into it. Do you like anime?
only 13 O.o??? wow. This is a really short anime...na I've watched an anime that was only 5 episodes long before. XD So it's one of those animes huh? Yeah I've watched another anime that was like that before...for got what it was called though...
Did you seriously cry? XD I don't think an animes ever made me cry. So it's one of those really emo animes then? I'm still gonna watch it till the end. Once I'm hooked on an anime there's no goin back. XD how many eps are in that one anyway?
Oh yeah I know! I have a preveiw of Ichigo vs ulquirria in japanese on my channel if you want to see it. It's awesome! Yeah. Death note was a really good series. Did you watch it all?
Those Spider Robot thingies are like Tanks, you can clim in side and ride in them and shoot things. Naruto and Digimon are just kid show anime. You should try watching better animes. It's fun
A bit random, but: If human consciousness is nothing more than a brain (which in reality seems to be the case), it's very possible that in the future we could transplant our brains into android bodies, possibly living "forever". This is both very awesome and very disturbing, depending on how you look at it. Furthermore, this idea raises questions on what it means to be human. If we are a subject of only our thoughts/brains, this disproves the idea of a soul. Creationists are further fucked. ;)
TribalKatz just watched a talk by a neuroscientist, he thinks that consciousness is fundermental just like time, space, electromagnetism etc, type in Donald Hoffman, also David chalmers (athieist philosopher) and have a look at his views, open your mind abit, consciousness is more mysterious then you think 🤔
it's sad that she wants to be a full human and can't, but the importance of being human is that (as far as we know) you CAN'T generate your own soul. Sorry sgt
anyone notice the similarities between the 2501's revelation scene and the joker's philosophically rant (interrogation scene) in the dark knight? the mood feel the same. also the architect confrontation with Neo scene in the Matrix...just saying.
@Tumoxa89 Are you a troll? If not, C'mon, don't be such an elitist. There's fun stuff and there's true Art and both have its merirts. Also, That's like saying all life action is porn, just because a little of it is. Anime has a very broad range. Also, check out, to name a few animes thare definitely TRUE ART, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, Death Note, Elfen Lied, Angel's Egg, the *other* Ghost in the shell Anime and other awesome stuff I haven't discovered yet.
@cr4yv3n Not only that, also the voices often don't suit with the characters. Eg. a little girl's voice sounds like the one of a 20 years old. And I just don't like the way American English sounds. It might be perfect for cool action movies but it just doesn't work with anime, it sounds weird. I like German though, it seems to be the perfect alternative to Japanese (the pronounciation is very similar). French isn't bad either.
Your right about one thing, this movie has little to nothing to do about Aristotle. The use of cyborgs/ the matrix to explain what makes a person is a re-telling of the simile of the chariot as taught by the Buddha. A chariot is not its parts nor the sum of its parts, but are all the parts co-dependent upon each other. Are you so different from motoko? like her you are made up of parts, you interpret the world only through your senses. google "The Debate of King Milinda"
Logic, Epistemology, insight, deduction. Philosophy is more than "wisdom" it is also practical understanding, like I am me and not someone else. Aristotle's principles of identity: That things are one thing; that things are not nothing; that things are not neither of the above; and 4thly that we do and can know things. This is Greek philosophy. The basic principles are presupposed in normal every day life. So you can prove things in philosophy, but there is much philosophy that is absurd (false)
@jasamdomo, it sounds rude but i keep thinking some people care about anime only because the other people do. they don't give two shits about the story and its true meaning. it always begins with something along the lines "i am better anime watcher because i accept only original works because its japanese", and usually falls into "anime? screw anime, i rule, i read manga!"
@JoPissvengance It's the 90s, American distributors had little funds and far too little talent to work with (unless it was Disney), hence the lacking voice-overs.
@KendrixTermina but the way I see it... the "boy" didn't merge with the "man" , I didn't really see the old parts of her in the new creature at the end.... and neither did her buddy, he didn't see it... she was lost. It was like amnesia. I think if you have amnesia, a soul or nothing else matters at that point.
I don't usually care if its English or a dub. Far from it, I usually think those opinions are mostly pretentious. This is terrible, though. The elevator scene in particular has so much more subtext and emotion in the original than it does in this awful lecture.
