The penance stare doesn’t kill you, but what it does is make your soul feel alllll the pain you’ve ever inflicted on anyone back to yourself forever. It essentially turns you into a living vegetable and someone killing you would actually be mercy

Penance Stare is actually an act of mercy. Just compare it to Hellfire. So imagine if GR has no mercy at all. GR will not use the penance stare but instead, he will use Hellfire, sending you straight to hell.

Don't think so. The penance stare is worse than hellfire. Imagine: you're burning inside. Psychologically, not physically. I think it's much more painful.

It burns your evil side and your evil intentions, especially for those criminals with no remorse or guilt doing their filthy evil acts. Penance stare senses through your soul and see if you're having remorse or guilt for doing your evil intentions. If it sees that you're not having remorse at all, then it will burn you by giving intense remorse and guilt. That's why he can sense if you're innocent or not. And you think that Penance stare is worse than Hellfire? then it seems you never read comics at all. Hellfire will first send you physically straight to hell, then burns you physically, mentally, and psychologically FOREVER.

Question: What exactly happens to victims of the Penance Stare? Are they unconscious, are they disabled, are they sent to hell? He blinks, so he can't be dead.

Simple anyone thats unfortunate to endup staring into the penanance stare ends up feeling the pain of those who they have inflicing pain on before their souls are destroyed leaving them a chared and crippled shell of their former self This of course is what defines the Ghost Rider making him the MCUs most powerful character in the history of the Marvel Universe. In other words the moment the Pennance stare locks onto its prey BOOM thats it its over.

@@FLAME4564 there's also Marvel characters that to some degree they are immune to the Penance stare for instance when Ghost Rider used it on the Punisher he wasn't affected because he believed that everyone that he tortured and killed were guilty, another one was when Ghost Rider used it on Dead Pool and when Ghost Rider was showing him all the people Dead Pool killed Dead Pool being Dead Pool turned those memories in to Laughs by him commenting on which one was his best and worst kills, there was the time When Ghost Rider used it on Thanos and he got a kick out of it and found it very pleasing and wanted more.

@@chrishansen9102 Yes. There are a few who are either too deranged or two passionate about their deeds to feel any real guilt. That’s also why Blackheart could not initially be taken down by it. It was only once he absorbed the souls of the evil could he be affected. And only then because so many of them were able to experience the pain. The irony is, it would have no affect on the Joker, for instance, but on Superman, all the ones who he failed to save or who died as collateral damage, it would cripple him.

@@ravenmoon5111 the comics blackheart was much more immune, the penance stare makes him stronger due to it showing the misdeeds done and Blackheart feeds on misdeeds to grow stronger, The movie version one wasn't really close tho

Honestly I feel like Johnny Blaze evolved alot from this to Vengeance. He went from being a little more calm and intimidating to downright mad and crazy. His form reflected that to. Here his form is clean, visible, his bike is shiny. There his form is burnt, melted, almost corrupted in a way, his bike is the same, the leather is melted and the bikes engine is red hot.

The only that never quite made sense to me is how Carter Slade survived for 150 years, making Slade at least 170 - 190 years old, given he was a full grown man when he made the deal. The gravestone with his name on it, makes me think he faked his own death at some point, and the reason he never left the cemetery is because it would probably be the only place where Mephisto couldn't find him. In any case, how did he not die of natural causes after a time? What kept him alive all those years?
