MADAGASCAR EXPEDITION EPISODE 3: Join my companions and me as we embark on our first night walk in Ranomafana National Park! As the rain pours, the animal counts soar! Wait until you see what we found! In the morning, you'll join us on a hike through a forest in search of what is arguably the LARGEST species of Chameleon on our planet: The Parson's chameleon (Calumma parsonii parsonii)! There are many animals waiting to be discovered in today's episode! I hope you enjoy it!
My sincere thanks and appreciation to my friends at Exo Terra for making the 2023 Madagascar Expedition possible for me! www.exo-terra.com/

Awesome trip so far! Aw, chameleons are so cute. I like how they move. And how they sleep on branches at night, 😍. Guess it feels super interesting when they walk over your hands and arms and cling on to it with their toes, especially when they are that huge.

Thank you so much! It was the trip of a lifetime and I’m excited to share the rest of it with you all over the next few weeks! The parsons grip is INTENSE! Top 3 things to consider before purchasing a chameleon - 1 - Do you have the time to give a chameleon the care it needs? If you have a very busy lifestyle then perhaps a chameleon is not for you. 2 - can you afford all the necessary equipment and live food etc needed for a chameleon? Chameleons need a constant and healthy variety of different insects as well as all the added supplements, they also need regular new uvb lights , plants, misters and many things to give a chameleon what it needs to thrive in the environment you have created for them. 3 - are you willing to do as much research as possible in order to understand the best ways of caring for a chameleon? You can never learn too much when it comes to keeping chameleons, we are constantly adapting and improving our understanding of how to care for them and as a group we all learn from each other through sharing our experiences, the Internet can be your best friend for learning how to give these incredible creatures the best life possible

@@Reptiliatus you’re welcome! I asked him what kind of chameleon he has, and he said a veiled. I don’t really know much about them, other than they are hard to keep alive. I get so invested and attached, if I brought anything home and it died, it would break my heart. 💔 But he takes care of all kinds of plants and animals and they all thrive.

Do chameleons make good first reptile pets? I've been loving these videos and I'm so looking forward to the rest of your trip.
@Reptiliatus
@Reptiliatus Год назад
In my opinion, because of their more delicate or less forgiving nature, I would have to say no. That being said, someone could do a lot of research and make sure they know exactly what they are doing prior to owning one. The hands on experience with other reptiles makes a big difference leading up to a chameleon.

Top 3 things to consider before keeping a chameleon (any herp actually); 1 - Humidity/temperature (being able to replicate habitat requirements.) Most chameleons do best with a fogger/misting system and good air exchange to keep from overheating (a screen top or sides). 2 - Enclosure size - as Chameleon species are arboreal the enclosure should be much taller than wide with plenty of plants/branches to climb on. 3 - Diet; a supply of (preferably live) insects is important as their feeding response is movement induced. Some can be acclimatized to eating canned insects by presenting them on a long twig/straw & simulating movement.

I think bills advise should apply to most species in captivity. But I think we should provide the best enclosures and care for the animals we have instead of "collecting" every animal and put them in the little enclosures. We should appreciate them for what they are and observe their natural behaviors ( well as natural as possible). Anyway ill stop.. have a great day
