Thank you for this information, so helpful! One additional recommendation about food gifts - be careful about foods with nuts or other allergens. I've had to regift or throw away food gifts that contained tree nuts or wheat (gluten) due to food allergies.

You are so considerate and thoughtful, Tracy! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas this year with your new granddaughter! ❤️ BTW, I now keep a swatch palette 🎨 of my colors (Summer) in my handbag. An idea inspired by you a couple of years ago. I know it going to save me a lot of costly fashion mistakes.

Hi Tracy! I'm italian and I have a restaurant with my husband (that is the chef), it's a little and simple restaurant, I agree with you about flowers! It's a problem also in a restaurant, when I have a lot of other tasks to do when guests arrives, coats, babies, questions to answer...and flowers are the last thing you wanto to think about...However thank you for all the pearls of wisdom and experience you share with all of us. With gratitude, Patrizia

I hit a couple of home runs in the hostess gift department , one with some gorgeous shiny little spreader knives in a very nice box and the other, a satin wine bottle bag with happy decorations and a matching cork that had a crown of large-ish sequins dangling It looked like a champagne popping up. It sounds like it would be tacky, but at the end of the year, we all need sparkle! The two different women LOVED their gift and while not saying anything at the time, each made a point of telling me at a later gathering.

@@TracyHensel it proves your point about items that are the better choice to give a hostess/host 😉

I've been hosting for decades and we're SO relieved when nobody turns up with flowers ; nothing worse than that . Say you expect 8 to 10 persons, and have to rush to look after 5 to 6 bunches of flowers, take vases out cupboards, put water, run to and fro while other guests are arriving. The poor host or hostess ends up flushed and stressed. On the other hand it's blissful to get flowers - or plants - the day before , especially after having been asked about your preferences and colour scheme. White orchideas are always welcome. Never bring food unless previously arranged. One of our best friend always brings, in addition to a little present, her famous home-made biscuits we serve with the coffee or tea. That's welcome. But no dishes please.

Do you think it’s Ok to give the host flowers with the water and vase already set up?
@TracyHensel

I agree on all levels, Clementine! Thanks for sharing!

In response to Jamie's question - No, it is not proper etiquette to bring flowers of any form, unless and 'ONLY' when it has been prearranged and discussed with the person throwing the party, as I mentioned in the video. The decor and theme of a party is chosen weeks or months in advance and a good party host has all of her decor placed where she would like it for the party. If someone shows up with a vase of flowers, she has no place to put those flowers. The host most likely will feel pressured to make room for an arrangement she knew nothing about and one that may not tie in with her theme. NEVER put the hostess in an uncomfortable situation. It is poor etiquette to do so, but it happens often .... typically by those that have never thrown a party. While it is the thought that counts, this video is to help people not make gifting mistakes.

Such great info and thank you for the gift ideas! Yes, it’s always about what the person would like, not you. My sister & I have a mutual friend who never listens to what we suggest she get for our sister’s birthday. And she asks! We love gift cards & she always gives us some ugly cheap house chawchkey or cheap jewelry. Not appreciated! By the way, I love your haircut! So pretty on you! 💖

As I happen to be attending a gathering tomorrow, your post was well timed. Would a Christmas calendar with chocolates for each day in December, be a good gift for someone hosting a prayer meeting in their home?
@TracyHensel
@TracyHensel 2 года назад
Hi Claire, yes I think the Chocolate Advent Calendar makes a nice gift. If by chance the recipient is one of the few in this world that does not like chocolate, I guarantee someone in their home will put the chocolates to good use. Enjoy your gathering!
