"Gimme Shelter" is the opening track to the 1969 album Let It Bleed by the Rolling Stones. It is on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list and is also the 34th best-ranked song on critics' all-time lists according to Acclaimed Music.
"Gimme Shelter" was written by the Rolling Stones' lead vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, the band's primary songwriting team. [a] Richards began working on the song's signature opening riff in London while Jagger was away filming a Performance with Richards' then-girlfriend, Anita Pallenberg. In his autobiography Life, Richards revealed that the tension of the song was inspired by his jealousy at seeing the relationship between Pallenberg and Jagger, and his suspicions of an affair between them.

coolest drummer ever!!! so mellow and low profile but a classy gentleman. Outstanding drumming , I guess he was always the one they can counted on .. as mccartney said .." charlie was a rock" . Beatiful person . Rock in peace charlie , forever grateful.

That feel... Kick a shade ahead of the pulse, snare a shade behind. No-one, but no-one, did it better. Such a killer backbeat. It sounds so simple, but like most really simple things, is SO hard.

Charlie's work on that snare drum is simply phenomenal! And the way he keeps that bass drum locked right on the beat, driving the song forward like a machine, but keeping the backbeat on the snare slightly behind, is just classic Charlie. And that, is not easily duplicated. RIP Charlie!

His drum kit is so simple not like some drummers that there kits were so big they had there own area code. But they didn't come close to the Charlie COOL. Tonight there will be a tear in my beer 🍺. RIP CW

He was a modest, unassuming man but by god he was a fine drummer, far better than he would ever admit to. I saw the Stones in 73, 76 & 82, without doubt the best gigs I ever attended. A sad day for us all.
